If there are items missing, you can ask your server. They may still be available. The chefs sit above these and pass food to guests using long paddles. Each chef is cooking for one half of one of the tables/bars.Overall, the ambiance does have a distinct Japanese feel to it. It is simple, elegant, and functional. If you are seeking a quiet meal, this is NOT the place to go. When some one comes in the restaurant, the staff chants. When someone orders food, the staff chants. When someone gets food, the staff chants. When someone leaves the restaurant, the staff chants. Depending on how you look at it, this is very entertaining or it is very annoying. tinyurl.com/b5lsfmlThe service is very good. it is attentive. Drinks are refilled and items are removed from the table in a timely manner. My date did not like the way our chef looked at us. It did not bother me. I actually didn't even notice it.However, we did think it was slightly rushed. There was a lot of food and a lot of variance. it came in a relatively unrelenting stream with little time to catch our breath and take it in. I had a small (300 ml) bottle of sake and I was unable to complete it during the meal. The food ranged from very good to excellent. I am not going to critique each dish. I am going to list them. Where appropriate, I will include both the Japanese and English names for the dish. I will include a link to the Yelp photo for most dishes. I will mark the dishes I enjoyed the most with a (*).*Tebasaki - Fried Chicken Wings (for each of us, this was our favourite.)tinyurl.com/b7v9obu*Buttabara - Pork Bellytinyurl.com/aejjbqoShitaketinyurl.com/af8fh2oAmai Imo - Sweet Potatono photoMini Kobacha - Pumpkin Squashno photo*Asupara - Asparagustinyurl.com/9wjkvqzOtoshi - Forced Appetizer/Beeftinyurl.com/a7tvg7nOmi Gyu - Wagyutinyurl.com/b7l4682*Sashimitinyurl.com/bk5cb4s*Chikodai - Sea Breemtinyurl.com/bfp4r54Beignetstinyurl.com/bb3dfeoReceipt (Dinner for 2 - $533.15)My only note on cost is you do not really have an idea of what you are spending. I came in with the expectation the meal was going to be in a range of $500 to $700. So, for me, there was no surprise. But I could easily see how someone who had not researched the place might be. Plus, it would feel a little clumsy to consistently ask how much is this? and how much is that?.tinyurl.com/aapeux2Overall - I thought this was a enjoyable dining experience. The food was very well prepared and many of the dishes were truly elevated by the careful grilling techniques used. The service and ambiance were certainly there. The noise is something you will either hate, love, or, as in my case, mildly tolerate. I think I've already had my fair share of Japanese restaurants with different takes on the loud greeting traditions. I would prefer the flow of food to be managed better. Eating a fine meal should not feel like a sprint. There should be time to stop, relish, enjoy conversation, and a drink or two.
