A return visit for Happy Hour at the Chef's Counter was another incredible experience. Service, drinks, food--all met the quality of a Michelin Star restaurant without the pretense. I appreciated the preparation of a menu marked for my allergy restrictions already placed at my seat. The Carne Apache had incredible seasoning and was tender. The Emmoladas De Pollo is always a favorite, and our chef gave us sourdough tortillas to enjoy the extra mile sauce. The dish I crave and dream about is the Camote Asado. Growing up, I never liked sweet potatoes, but my grandmother loved them and told me I should eat them. After having them on my first visit to Alma Fonda Fona, Lo siento, Abuela. You were right, and I will eat them every time I return.

Alma Fondafina was hands down one of the best meals I've had in Denver. The fish was incredibly fresh, and every dish had bold, thoughtful flavors that really stood out. We were lucky to get a reservation (4 p.m. on a Wednesday) and now I completely understand why it's tough to snag a res!! The service was excellent. Our servers knew the menu inside and out, and the space itself is cozy, beautiful, and perfect for a delicious meal. From appetizers to dessert (the sweet potato dish was amazing), everything was a hit. I left wishing I could have tried the entire menu, and I'm already looking forward to going back. My friend and I were literally happy dancing throughout the entire experience

This is arguably the most difficult to get reservation in Denver, but somehow I managed to secure one recently. I've heard so many good things about this place over the last year, and it also has a star, so my expectations were reasonably very high. I have an intense appreciation for authentic Mexican food, and my understanding going in was that this place was the real deal. I think overall this meal was fantastic, but it missed in a few areas that I personally find important for a high-end Mexican place like this. We stuck with cocktails for drinks and they were solid. Their drink menu is surprisingly very wine-forward and most other people in there were drinking wine. I don't really think of getting wine going out for Mexican, but apparently Mexico has a big wine scene? I learned something new that night. Their cocktail selection felt small and I actually expected more mezcal offerings, given from my experience I've found restaurants in Mexico to offer mezcal cocktails much more than tequila. I did think the Avocado Margarita was excellent and the best we had, having a delicious salt mix spread on the rim and contained a very tasty avocado purée. A solid runner up was the Mex 75, which brilliantly paired a mezcal with a Mexican sparkling wine which was very unique. The Hibiscus Margarita was okay, hard to taste the hibiscus. The Pineapple Sour I thought was a little too foamy. For food, they recommend two people share one dish from each section of the menu. But we got one extra dish starting with the Taco De Picadillo from the happy hour menu. You don't see picadillo (ground beef + potatoes) offered in restaurants often, so I found this to be a real treat. The fresh, house-made tortilla it was served in was perfect, very masa-forward but not too overwhelmingly corny and the perfect thickness and texture. The Carne Apache (a NY Strip tartare) was a miss, very salty and the avocado base really made it eat like just a too-salty guacamole. The Ceviche De Atun was okay, beautiful presentation but surprisingly not served with tostadas and eating it with a fork/spoon felt off given sauce was watery and seemed like it should absorb into something. The Sope De Costilla De Res was delicious, served with a very tender braised short rib and a delightful masa base. My wife said she got a few fatty bites however, and we both agreed there was too little masa for a sope. The highlight of the night was the Birria De Borrego. It was so incredibly tender and eating it with a fresh masa tortilla and the green salsa they served it with was a dream. This is the only dish of the night that really reminded me of something I ate in Mexico. Unfortunately they only gave us one tortilla each, and although the server offered to bring more they never came out of the kitchen. And to our extreme surprise, they do not have a dessert menu here and redirect you to Mezcalaria Alma (which is equally as busy) or Little Man Ice Cream. It was my birthday so we were expecting a dessert or something special like that. So overall I think this place is very good but they certainly can do better, and it feels overrated given how hard it is to get reservations. I can't think of a better high-end Mexican place in Denver, but I've had better in San Diego and Mexico itself. Also not a single thing here was spicy which is also surprising. Not likely to return unless it becomes easier to go to in the future.

We stopped in for happy hour and had the Taco de Picadillo, which was bursting with rich, comforting flavors and served on a perfect tortilla. For dinner, the NY Strip was cooked beautifully, tender and packed with flavor, and when paired with a side of their sourdough tortillas it was absolutely phenomenal. The atmosphere is warm and stylish, making it feel both elevated and inviting, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. Between the incredible food, thoughtful presentation, and overall vibe, Alma delivers an experience that feels both special and authentic.

I wasn't totally sure what to expect coming in but this place really did exceed our expectations, even knowing it had a Michelin star. First, the service is great. While I wish they switched our dishes out a little more between dishes, there are so many dishes I get why they didn't. Otherwise they're so friendly and attentive. The vibe and ambiance is so clearly curated in an intelligent way. I'll say the only thing that needs an upgrade is the bathroom, as this absolutely doesn't match the level expected from the rest of the place. Each dish was great. Sizes aren't as small as I may expect from this sort of place, which is always a plus, and they came out fairly timely and in a smart order. The carne apache, scallops, and taco campechano were the highlights for us. The pumpkin mole chicken was pretty fine, I don't think I was ever going to be that interested in this dish. We ordered the lenguado thinking it was something totally else so this was a bit of a surprise and not in necessarily a bad way, but wouldn't have necessarily chosen this from the onset.

The two month wait to get into this place was worth it! Alma Fonda Fina deserves a round of applause for the thoughtful and timely service, the amazing food, and unique cocktail selection. The inside is on the smaller side, but definitely cozy and comfortable. Here's what we ordered: -Oaxacan Old Fashioned (I loved this) -Avocado Marg (unique twist on a marg) -Guacomole Alma - I'm still thinking about this guac!!! Came with chimichurri on top. It was fire!! - Frijoles Puerco - I loved this, a spicy chorizo on top of beans & cheese. Came with tortillas. -Callo De Hacha Al Horno - scallops covered in tomato butter. Delicious. -Enmoladas De Pollo - this is the first pic featured Tasty roasted chicken with creamy cheese and pickled onions covered in mole sauce! Yum. -Lenguado - flaky halibut (honestly I was full at this point but still thoroughly enjoyed this dish) After dining here, I understand why the 2024 Michelin star award was well deserved. We ordered five dishes between the two of us, and it was the perfect amount. The food coma came shortly after though. I believe that this menu changes (at least the Para Compartir section does) which makes it exciting. I'd love to go back and/or try the mezcal bar next door.
Wow wow wow.
My husband and I have tried a lot of restaurants in Denver and this is in the top 3! The one thing we kept saying is how cohesive all the dishes are to eachother. Our entire meal stood out due to that. Our top 3 bites were the scallops, frijoles puercos, and the NY strip - don't miss out on these. We ordered 7 plates and the only one we'd skip next time is the sopes. Ambiance is very small and intimate and service was fantastic. Can't wait to come back!

What went well? EVERYTHING! Amazing food, presentation and service makes for a incredible dining experience at this Michelin Star restaurant! Seated at the counter, we were immediately greeted by our server/chef, Kosi, who explained the menu and cocktails and made suggestions. All perfect and delicious as we watched our meals being prepared in front of us by a team of chef's working in harmony. Bottom line, fantastic food, tasty cocktails and superior service. For reservations, plan on dates at least one month out as the restaurant is booked solid.

Well worth it !! Food, service , ambiance, music and vibes were off the charts good and a must try. Heading back today to their mezcaleria next door to try their cocktails and yummy menu by Johnny Curiel. Not in town long enough to try his other restaurants but will when we come back. Great job team Alma

Tried Alma Fonda Fina after trying Mezcaleria Alma (next door) and it did not disappoint. Had a drink outside as we were early, both drinks were great and service was very friendly. Once inside for dinner service was of the same high quality, all dishes were great. Tried new cocktails and also were all spot on. We were a bit disappointed that they don't serve desserts, maybe something that the servers should explain at the beginning of dinner. Will go again soon.

Came here a couple of weekends ago for lunch with a friend while visiting Denver and was blown away. The interior, the food, the service.... Everything was top notch!!!! Our server was absolutely delightful and extremely knowledgeable. We needed to make some mods on some dishes and they were happy to accommodate. Would 100% come back (hopefully for dinner!!) next time I'm in town. It's been a while since I've been this excited about a new restaurant!

We just moved to Denver and live nearby.
Every time we walked by this sweet little restaurant caught our attention. We would study the menu and noted we wanted to try it one day. We are happy we did! There were so many items on the menu we wanted to try that we ended up doing everything from the De Masa part of the menu and one from Crudos and two from Entradas. Our favorite was the Rajan Con Crema (Wild Mushrooms). The Sope De Costillal was a close second. We also enjoyed both drinks that were ordered. We will come back to try other items on the menu. We had a 3pm reservation mostly because that is a time we like to eat but also because it's when we could get in. Highly recommend.

The avocado margarita was delicious and a refreshing counterpoint to the very spicy salsa on the pork shank tacos. Loved the aguachile and would have ordered all of the raw options had I not been dining solo! Plus the owner was out checking on tables. Cute patio dining too.

You know when the food is so good but it's also a nicer restaurant so you're wondering, am I eating too fast? Should I slow this down? But dang is this food delicious. The hubs and I came for our first but certainly not last time to Alma Fonda Fina tonight. Matthew was our server and hands down he made this an exceptional experience. Unfortunately my body is saying no to dairy these days. He was great and helped walk us through the menu on dishes that were lighter or no dairy. We started with the guacamole- delicious with the chimichurri on top and house made tostadas. Next was my favorite dish of the night - the adobo seared hamachi. Perfectly seasoned and beautifully presented with tiny brunoise vegetables. This was a gorgeous dish both in presentation and flavor. Next dish was the Taco De Suadero that featured 12 hour braised brisket. They pretty much had us at brisket and this did not disappoint. For my main I opted for the Colorado striped bass with butter rice. I took one bite of that rice and said, what will be, will be with the dairy because I was not leaving a grain behind. The fish was perfectly cooked including crispy skin topped with more of that incredible chimichurri on tomatoes. My husband got the lamb Birria and had enough that he brought it home and will be enjoying it with eggs for breakfast. Matthew again for the win with some extra homemade tortillas in our doggie bag. The whole team was fantastic and it is a real treat to have been able to dine here.

We always love to hit an "it" spot, and with all of our dietary restrictions this one hit the mark. We especially liked the avocado cocktail. Different twist on something delicious. We ended up getting an array of food left to the waitresses expertise and were impressed with everything that came out. Definitely not a cheap dinner date but lovely all the same. We were on the back wall which suited us, but were very glad we weren't at one of the tables in the center, so pro tip- request the window or bar in your reservation notes, and book ahead, this place is hopping. Next time we want to sit at the bar because they are cooking behind the bar which is always an experience we love!
We came for our anniversary and the food was great.
Service was too and our drinks were good, not too sweet. We were a little disappointed they don't have dessert since it was our anniversary and they didn't often a toast or anything but that's okay. Can't wait to come back and try everything else! Congrats on this lovely space!

* Peter can now talk to EternalAnt36 for any questions Peter may have as EternalAnt36 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* EternalAnt36 now uses their connections at Alma Fonda Fina Denver to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If EternalAnt36 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
