Ampersand Asian Supper Club Columbus Reviews from The Last Year
Ampersand was a nice experience.
I was there for an early dinner, so the restaurant was not full; however, towards the end of my dinner, patrons began trickling in. I ordered the vegetable gyoza as my appetizer and the Tonkotsu pork ramen as my entree. The gyoza was really good; a sweet chili sauce accompanied the gyoza as a dipping sauce. Tasty. The ramen was ok. I requested the broth to be "super, super spicy," and they surely delivered! I actually coughed upon inhaling my first sip of the broth. lol. The pork fat belly was a disappointment. I know "fat" belly will have a certain amount of fat, but I couldn't indulge in the slices of pork belly that were in my broth--too fatty and not good. The noodles were cooked well, meaning not too soft. The mushrooms and other veggie accompaniments were a nice touch. Service was impeccable. I hate that I didn't notate the waiter's name, but he was excellent -- suggesting favorite dishes and sakes to try. All-in-all, while I had a pleasant experience, I don't think I'd visit again. But, please go and give them a try! Not bad by any means. Cheers!

Stopped in here for the large menu, and most importantly - the black sesame creme brûlée. If you've read some of my other reviews, you'll know creme brûlée is my favorite and I'm always looking to try new versions. This was truly a unique one. Dinner itself was good, nothing too spectacular or special (from what we tried at least), but the servers were all so nice and attentive. The crime brûlée itself was good - looks eh but that's really just because it's all black and that's a little weird to get used to. Flavor was truly unique and not very sweet at all but I overall still really enjoyed it. Not sure I'd get it again, but still so glad I tried it (and you should too)
I came in here as it was recommended to me by my sister.
I was disappointed the ramen was super salty (I got the mushroom ramen) the nori fries were good though I loved the sauce. Server only came over to check on me once I get I am a solo diner but that doesnt mean I should be left to fend for myself. The table next to me was a family of 4 and the server was always there checking on them but then just walked past my table. I have severe social anxiety and finally got the courage up to leave my apartment and go to a restaurant but felt like I was more of a burden than a guest. Especially when I had to go up to the pay area to ask for a box which was super anxiety filled for me.
Went for lunch and got the $15 mix and match deal.
Food was incredibly fresh and delicious. Easily the best gyoza I've had in Columbus and quite possibly ever. Dough was made fresh in house. Amber was our waitress and was not only informative but also gave great recommendations. Sat outside and the patio is lovely as well. Would highly recommend Ampersand if you love freshly prepared food. Truly an amazing value for the level of detail in every aspect of this restaurant from the broth, toppings, all the way to the service.
Amazing Ramen !!!!! Quality upscale ingredients.
Well worth the price (delicious tea included!)! Careful planning went into the food and ambiance here. I have to give thanks to people opening a small business!!! Thanks for all your hard work and investment -you make our lives more enjoyable in this Greatest Country on God's Green Earth . P.S. love the art wall!!! A mix of 19th century oil paintings and everything else!!! It gives a cool American history touch to a beautiful Japanese modern zen and minimalistic environment!
Very small portions I left hungry.
I was really looking forward to trying this place as I hear they have vegan rice bowls and nori fries but the tofu was gross and the rice undercooked. I will stick to the tofu handroll over at mẹcha they actually know how to cook rice. Crazy that an "asian" place can't cook rice
The service was outstanding and the food was top notch.
We savored every bite from the appetizers (nori fries, pork steamed bun, and crab rangoons) to the ramen! The chefs brought out our food was a special touch that I was loving. This was our first time at Ampersand but it certainly will NOT be our last. Be back soon.
It's all about the buns.
Cucumber salad was different than the usual sweet/sour pickle flavor (rice vinegar) - the dressing was a bit creamier - and was a hit. Tonkatsu ramen and chicken pozole ramen were okay. But double up on the pork buns and you won't be sorry.

This place was delicious!! The broth in the ramen was perfectly salty and seasoned the dumplings were crunchy and me and my family devoured them lol!! This place had a small fly problem but no biggie because the waiters were nice and the wait wasn't too long! Can't wait for this place to come to westervile!! :) (all photos are after we ate and not before)!

Dropped in here on a whim and was very pleasantly surprised! We got the pork steamed buns and the black sesame creme brulee - both were delicious, creative flavors, and beautifully plated. We also got the bubble tea - I recommend the mango tea with blueberry bubbles. Ambiance is great. It is a small space, but laid out and decorated well. I especially like the little separate room for one party, it is very cute. Service was attentive and professional. It had a pretty relaxed vibe - I would love to sit at that bar for a long time, just ordering drinks and every starter. My only complaint is that it wasn't very clear if we sat ourselves or waited for someone to seat us - we just sat at the bar eventually. I didn't get to try any but their cocktail menu looks fantastic, I would go just for cocktails. Pretty normal prices, but their happy hour deal is $3 off cocktails which makes them a ridiculously good price for the quality and creativity. Looking forward to going back or getting take-out!
Solid food, bad service.
There are definitely better bowls of ramen in Columbus but this wasn't the worst. I ordered the pork buns to be taken out before the ramen, server didn't say a word when he placed them and they sat above the bar for 5 minutes. The give a small water cup full of ice, gone in two sips. Had to get the cook to fill my glass then the second time I just went to the bathroom. Server desires zero interaction with the customers. The ramen looked beautiful and the pork buns were INCREDIBLE. Service made it all a lack luster experience
By far, the best and most innovative Asian-fusion place
By far, the best and most innovative Asian-fusion place that honors the tradition while blowing the mind with its nuanced flavor from other cuisines. Culinary Director Joshua Cook was the Executive Chef at Barrio, the popular Spanish tapas restaurant in German Village. He brings his exceptional knowledge of roasting meats, amongst his many talents to bear, in this tour-de-force menu at Ampersand Asian Supper Club. The menu focuses on ramen and donburi rice bowls. The saffron braised beef ramen bowl was not only perfect, but the perfect marriage of flavors from both Spanish and Japanese traditions, along with perfect ramen noodles, made this the best bowl of ramen that I've tried in the Continental US. Hands down. Period. The roast of the pork belly for the gua bao (folded lotus leaf style) buns was perfect too. It melted in your mouth. It wasn't over sauced, allowing the whole dish to really wow you in the melding of the flavors. They have some of the most unique cocktails as well. They pair exceptionally with the food. The dining room is modern, and eclectic Asian, with a lone picture of the Beatles tucked away inconspicuously. I'll leave that "Where's Waldo" moment to you to find it. Service was exceptional, and personable. Suggestions were based upon a conversation, not a monologue of what sells, or needs to sell. This is my fourth trip to Columbus in the last six years, with the COVID enforced "holiday." Ampersand is the one restaurant that I keep coming back to. The kitchen has changed chefs, but it remains in the hands of a team that has honored and enhanced its daring creative spirit. In a city that has many outstanding restaurants, this is one of a few of really world class eateries with excellent prices that fits both Beard's and Michelin's qualifications. Destination? You betcha. - The Jazz Chef
My girlfriend and I celebrated our anniversary at this gem
My girlfriend and I celebrated our anniversary at this gem of a restaurant, and it was nothing short of amazing! The food showcased fresh ingredients with rich, flavorful creations. The romantic and chic atmosphere set the perfect tone, and the wait staff, with their kindness and humor, made our experience truly memorable. We absolutely loved every moment here! We'll be back soon with lots of friends!!
I like the ambiance a lot, the food is delicious.
The ramen came in nice portion and good flavor, probably one of the best in Columbus. Service was a little slow, maybe its because we got there a bit too early (5pm on a Friday) and they are just getting warmed up for their first customers lol.
Went with several friends for restaurant week.
All three of us had not been there. I definitely won't be our last! The meal was so delicious. I had the Thai Coconut Curry Seafood Ramen and it was amazing! It was so flavorful and spicy though I didn't detect actual coconut flavor. The spice level was just right and it was spicy due to the flavor and not because of heat level. They certainly did not skimp on the seafood either! Can't wait to go back!
My partner and I come to Ampersand often because the food
My partner and I come to Ampersand often because the food is just so good. We are vegetarian and love the Fungus Among Us ramen out of the vegetarian options available. If you're feeling super hungry, I definitely recommend getting the Steamed Buns with your entree - you can't go wrong with any of the options. Not only is the food great, but the service and atmosphere are always top notch. This is our go to spot for impressing out of town friends. I cannot recommend Ampersand enough!
Great experience overall while dining here.
We came on a Thursday night and our waiter was very attentive and pleasant the entire visit. We started out with the pork steamed buns and crispy calamari. The pork steamed buns were so delicious! I'm glad we got the 3 for $13 and it was delicious and perfectly flavored. The crispy calamari was very good. My only complaint is that I wish there would've been more for the huge bowl they were in. I think the white things that came with the calamari were pork rinds or something similar to them, but those were great. If they bagged those up and sold them separately, I'd definitely buy them in bulk. I ordered the shoyu ramen with confit chicken and it was excellent. I'm glad I got the shredded confit chicken instead of the breaded chicken because it just worked better with the dish. My only complaint is that most of the chicken didn't taste seasoned so I asked for additional pepper to add more flavor and spice. My partner had the Tonkotsu ramen, which of course I tried because why bring two people if you're not going to taste multiple menu items (). The pork was great and the broth was perfectly seasoned. I probably would've preferred to order that as my entree over the shoyu, but both were great to have. We left happy with our tummies full.
As it is every time, Ampersand was an amazing experience!
As it is every time, Ampersand was an amazing experience! This is the 5th year in a row we have taken my boys and my nephew for a fun Christmas meal. We reserve the Tatami room and have a fun and delicious meal of ramen, calamari, nori fries and edamame. The service is always spot on, the atmosphere is a relaxing, yet a contemporary fun vibe. I definitely recommend reserving the Tatami room to enhance your amazing meal!
I treated my mother to a birthday and anniversary lunch
I treated my mother to a birthday and anniversary lunch here. The place wasn't busy at all when walking in. The setup is nice: table seating to the side, with their sushi counter prominent when walking in. I'm not a ramen soup fan, so I always look for steam bun offerings when eating at a Chinese soup-centered spot. I went with their 2-for-$9 steam bun offering and tried the Pork Chashu and Gourmet Mushrooms. Also ordered their Pork Chashu Egg Roll. My mother when with their lunch special miso soup and Pork Chashu Rice Bowl. Both of my buns were surprisingly quite good. The buns were soft, with a slight hint of sweetness - very nice compliment. The pork chunk was a good match size-wise to the bun. The pickled onions and sesame Chile mayo were great, too. The mushroom bun was pretty good. Their "asparagus salad" was simply thin horizontal slices of a raw asparagus spear - not what I was hoping/picturing in my mind, but oh well. The wasabi vinaigrette was a nice choice, so all and all, tasty. The Chashu egg roll was nicely compact and didn't fall out of the wrap easily. It's small but packed full of the pork, cabbage, carrots mix. I liked the sweet chili ginger dipping sauce, it was a good accent. My mother's really liked her pork chashu rice bowl. I did try a bite, and the flavors were good - not overtly bam, in your face!, rather melded together nicely. Any dish that profiles the rainbow is always a star in and of itself.
Came in for dinner on a Thursday and was able to sit right
Came in for dinner on a Thursday and was able to sit right away. The restaurant is seat yourself but you do have your own server. We ordered a Thai tea and hot early gray to drink. The earl gray came in the CUTEST tea cup with a matching pot. To start we had the ginger salads, pork buns, and crab rangoons. The salads were delicious and very refreshing. The buns were good but had a lot of vinegar/acidic flavors that were a bit overpowering. The crab rangoons used real crab and were also very good but the sauce it came with was super sweet and kind of covered up the flavor of the Rangoons. For our main we had the tonkotsu and shio. The tonkotsu was a bit disappointing, the broth was good but overall everything lacked flavor. The pork belly was also very fatty and I wasn't able to finish. The shoyu egg however was super flavorful and one of the best I've ever had. My friend had the shio and gave me a piece of the octopus and it was super rubbery and not flavorful. He wasn't a big fan of his meal and ended up throwing out his leftovers. Not sure we'd visit again, but it was fun to try!

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
