Donostiarra is likely one of the best asadores in Madrid, not only because of the great food they serve, but by their friendly staff. We've been here a couple of times and strongly recommend the chipirones en su tinta, el chuleton de buey and the cheesecake. The restaurant is very comfortable and they have various sections that can accommodate larger groups. When seated we were welcomed with delicious sausages, olives and bread. When leaving, we were offered dark chocolates and digestives. A must visit when in Madrid
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best places to come eat and explore.
Absolutely a wonderful atmosphere also. You might run into a famous person there for sure.

Traditional Spanish tavern, with a good selection of meats and starters (but do ask for the shrimps too). It's very busy day and night; you'd better make a reservation.

This place is just as amazing as the reviews I read said it was! Starving and needing a place that served a real dinner (ie entre, vegetables) and I REALLY wanted some good fish, I hopped on yelp and found this place. It was around 11:45 pm and it was still open!! My waiter said the Bream was the house favorite and so I ordered it! He was not lying; it sure was tasty! However, the oil it was cooked and served in was a bit heavy and salty in places (which is why I gave it 4 stars and not 5). It was served with scallop potatoes in the same oil.b It was still really good though. After dinner, they bring you some very tasty cookies in the shape of Pringles chips accompanied by a lemon sorbert (be careful, it has alcohol in it) and it doesn't stop there, right after that they bring you out a box of chocolates!!! It was a GREAT experience to have at 12midnight

I finally had a chance to try it this week. I guess its greatest allure is that it's the local hangout of the Real Madrid soccer players, unfortunately I did not see any - not that I would recognize them anyway. The food while good isn't spectacular. I ordered the Escalope Steak which was akin to a Rib Eye and it was probably the best dish on the table. The other dishes included the Sea Bream, Entrecote and Hake - none of which the others in my party enjoyed. For starters little sausages (chistorra) were enjoyed by all the desserts were also quite underwhelming. The service is outstanding but ultimately I came for the food and it was only average. I would go back solely based on the service.

We had dinner here on our last night in Madrid before we headed back to New York. This restaurant was recommended to us by our concierge and it turned out to be a pretty good meal. Even though it was another expensive restaurant (which I do not mind as long as the food is good), the rib steak for two was soft, tender and delicious. They give you delicious bread with great olive oil, complimentary olives and small chorizos as a starter and we ordered the grilled asparagus which were excellent. The steak is delivered to your table sliced and raw along with a scalding "asador" which is a very hot grilling plate. You place the meat on it and cook it yourself and this was very simple and quick. We got some cut up strawberries and a lemon sorbet drink (complimentary) and ordered the rice pudding which was very good. The service was excellent but the reason I gave 4 stars is because the man who took our order not only forgot to bring us one of the appetizers but he also never submitted the rice pudding order either. I would recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood for steak. The high cost of the meal is about the same price as we pay for any good steak restaurant on the North Shore of Long Island except that they do not even have a line on the charge slip to add a tip. The meal came to $162 including 2 glasses of very good sangria and one cappuccino. Visited May 2013
