our dinner menu was: blue cheese and apple salad, foie gras poutine, 2x foie gras conesquis, pigs foot plate and pintade plate . for dessert i had cafe cream caramel, and my brother had a chocolate molten dessert . all was excellent . the poutine was beyond amazing i asked for a spoon so i could eat all the silky , creamy gravy. this is by far the best meal i have had in years it is expensive but worth every penny . my 3d time here and was by far even better then in the past. excellent service not rushed . take your time it is very rich but delicious .count at least $100 per person if not more but this is truly a culinary experience . amazing . high lights for me poutine , the square melt in your mouth conesquis, and my dessert just fantastic , everything was top notch but those were my favorites of the evening.

Au Pied de Cochon is really good. The food and drinks are delicious. Really creative and innovative menu. Fantastic restaurant.

Tres bien! The food is really great for sharing. The dishes are delicious as are the cocktails. A favorite spot in Montreal for good eats.

Amazing dinner! We ordered several plates to share, but the most memorable was the roasted pig foot. Definitely not something I’d ever had, but it was delicious and frankly a lot of fun. We did not get the duck in a can, but that also looked delicious as well. Our server was also fantastic. This was a very lovely night out while we were visiting Montreal!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Dinners at PDC
Great dinners this week at PDC. The Plogue a Champlain appetizer was amazing as usual, tried the onion soup which was very tasty had onions and other goodies in it, really delicious. The best was the pied du cochon served with maple. wow it was amazing and memorable. Service excellent and a friendly team. Amazing dinners and they make you feel very welcome here. Memorable, merci!

sadly, this place isn't very good. the duck in a can was so tough it was like eating a baseball. the fois gras poutine was bland. the wines were bad. the service wasn't great. really no point spending this kind of money here.
Be the first to ReplyHoneymoon Dinner
My wife and I went here on the last day of our honeymoon and truly had a great experience, The food was delicious, the servers were extremely kind, and even gave us a glass of sparkling cider when they heard it was our honeymoon. It is definitely pretty hot when dining inside though, so when we return we may ask for outdoor seating depending on weather and season!

One of Montreal best, the service is excellent, the food is simply piggy good lol we hada wonderfull experience.
Be the first to ReplyDo not recommend-terrible service!
Service was terrible. We arrived a few minutes early for our 9pm reservation and we’re not served until close to 11pm. They were busy which was fine, but drink orders weren’t even taken until an hour of sitting and we weren’t even offered bread. The pork chop was unimpressive - tough and fatty. The blue cheese salad was not good. The foie gras was good and everything else was good. The service was inattentive and overshadowed our enjoyment of the evening. I do not recommend going! So many other wonderful options in Montreal.
Be the first to Replypoor quality at a higher price
Overpriced. Feels like they over-used their name/fame and did cut corners to make more $. Average quality. I don't mind paying higher price for a quality meal, but I honestly had way better food for way cheaper. Even the quantity (wine served in a smaller-than-usual glass or food) is not there. Thank god I did not order a starter or a dessert... My disappointment would have been even greater. To top it all, the service is not aligned at all with the professionalism one should/could expect in a higher-end restaurant.

I have been talking about eating here forever! Finally, my wife took the initiative to make a reservation and it lived up to all the hype. The foie gras is amazing. We had the temaki, nigiri and of course the poutine foie gras, all incredible. Its has a relaxed atmosphere with outstanding service. It's a bit pricey but when the experience is this good, price is never an issue!!!
Be the first to ReplyFois Gras Heaven
Maple meets fois gras, what a great idea and so well done at PDC! Enjoyed the Plogue du Champlain appetizer which is a beautiful slice of fois gras with bacon served in a lake of maple., wow every bite was delicious. I dined here 3 times in a weekend and had that twice. Also must recommend the cassoulard, so rich and flavorful and no ya cant eat it all - but its amazing! A friend just enjoyed it there as well and he thought it was awesome and rich as well. Service is fast, it's a busy place but full of people who all enjoy the cuisine and Montreal food scene. Enjoy, cant wait to return
Be the first to ReplyLiked it, but didn't love it
So many travelers who visit this restaurant, we were lured here by an Anthony Bourdain travelogue on Montreal. What was shown on TV as full of life, seemed honestly a bit tired and drab. Staff looked overwhelmed and scrambling, in spite of it not feeling real busy. The food was good, not great. We tried "duck in a can" and sampled some foie gras, for which they are known. The food was rich, but to my palette was nothing special. Restaurant furnishings were worn and felt clean-ish - as if it had peaked a decade ago and I was too late to experience it at its prime. I felt like I was paying a bit more for the "experience" of eating at this known restaurant, but that it was overhyped.

First of all, get your reservation for this place as soon as you can. We were recommended to this restaurant as we visited Montreal. We were not disappointed! We started with the Onion Soup. I have not had as a great soup as I did here. My husband had the pork chop as his main. The piece was so soft. It was like butter in your mouth. A definite treat. I had the Mac and Cheese. The Foie Gras was fantastic. My husband didn't know what it was and he is not an organ meat fan. He couldn't even realize what it was as it was so smooth. We were unable to do dessert as the meal was filling. We plan to go when we come back to Montreal!
Be the first to ReplyI guess I'm missing the appeal
With all the hype, fame and great reviews we went with high expectations. Unfortunately we left completely underwhelmed. First of all, when people mention that it's noisy they mean it's REALLY LOUD. Many of the tables are flanking the kitchen in a narrow strip toward the back of the restaurant. You're seated too low to watch the kitchen work, but you definitely get all the noise. Plus, the narrow space is a major thoroughfare for the servers, so it's fairly chaotic. Service was, let's say, minimalist. I don't think we ever saw the person who took our order again. The foie gras first course was great. The mac and cheese was, well, mac and cheese. It was fine, perhaps even good, but pretty run-of-the-mill for a place that's supposedly so amazing. The duck-in-a-can, on the other hand, was really fairly awful (and that's coming from a true duck lover). First of all it was, at best, lukewarm. The duck was tough, the duck fat was cold, the foie gras was tragically lost in the mediocrity. Too bad, because as much as we were looking forward to this place it was by far the dining low-point of our eight nights in Montreal and Quebec City.
Be the first to ReplyAu Pied de Cochon - Montreal - very enjoyable environment with yummy food.
Food was fantastic…Foie Gras Poutine was the best, Duck with Morel mushrooms, Roquefort Salad … everything tasted so good…small menu which changes with the season…didn’t have enough room to eat dessert. The service was fantastic, very personable and knowledgeable. This restaurant was recommended by a friend from Montreal and by our tour guide, Mathieu Demers - wonderful suggestions. Would visit again whenever I’m in Montreal, Quebec (Canada).

There are too many good restaurants in Montreal to waste time going to this one. Service was horrible. We were ignored for nearly 15 minutes before I had to flag down a waiter to find our waiter just to get some water. It was an unusually warm 90 degrees in Montreal and the air conditioning was non existent. It must have been 85 degrees in the restaurant. Our waiter seemed uninterested in our table for the entire 2 hours we were there while it was obvious he was more attentive to surrounding tables. I do not know if he was biased against families with young children or because of our ethnicity but he was the worst. A different waiter noticed we were sitting there waiting for the Duck in the can after 80 minutes and told us it would be another ten minutes while our waiter did not care.
I ordered the Gin Guay which is a take on a Gin and Tonic and was as weak as a 7up.
Food - we ordered the Stracciatella, the Pain Levain, Foie Gras Poutine, and Canard en Conserve (Duck in a can). The asparagus was good and balanced, bread ok, the Poutine had plenty of gravy and decent Foie Gras but could have used triple the amount of fries. Grossly unbalanced. The Duck in a can was a disaster because it took nearly 90 minutes to come out! Some bits were tasty, the duck itself was very tough.
Our overall experience was not pleasant. The food was ok overshadowed by the horrible experience. It felt like a glorified tourist trap to us. A restaurant the relies on it's past reputation and reviews and is merely milking it now. Too cheap to hire adequate staff and to even have enough fries in it's highly touted Poutine. We also had dinner at Restaurant Holder and L'Express and they were both far more professional and superior in every way. Don't make this your first or last meal in the city.
Repeat visit a decade later...Foie Gras Poutine still Awesome
Ten years after a first visit where we only had appetizers due to being too full from a late lunch, I came prepared with a late reservation and was definitely ready for dinner.
This time around it was a girls' trip, and my friend and I both loved the poutine. Perfect gravy, nice sizes of foie gras, but we wished thee were more fries to help soak up the gravy! I finally got the Duck in a Can and she got the Seafood Risotto. Yes, I know the Duck in a Can is a gimmick, but still wanted to try it. While it was good, it was very very rich and while I don't think I'd get it again, I'm glad I tried it.
One thing we both agreed on - both dishes are best eaten while very hot -- but the richness of each dish makes it hard to do so quickly, which makes it difficult to get the same flavor through the meal. For example, the risotto with an egg yolk mixed in with the briny shrimp? Fantastic on the first few bites -- but got saltier as time went on and it cooled down. My friend actually wished there was more risotto to help cut the saltiness of the shrimp. Same with the duck in a can -- great for the first few bites when piping hot -- but flavor diminished as the dish cooled down, which might have been helped if there were more potatoes or bread or something to soak up some of the juices.
My only mild surprise: service was not up to par with what I recall from the last time. Our waitress was okay, but took an incredibly long time to initially take our order, then long times to check in on us. We asked for bread initially, told there was none. After we first received our entrees, asked again, as we saw people clearly getting some...and then she brought it to us literally as we were finishing them up. I get that it was a busy Friday evening, but we were slightly surprised at what seemed to a disconnect between those who took the orders, the kitchen, and those who actually delivered the food.
We were also slightly amused by what seemed to be frantic efforts to locate register tape for something like 10 minutes by different folks at one point.
Would I come again? Most likely, just for the poutine, and perhaps to try something else on the menu. However, I know the Montreal food scene has exploded since the last time I visited, and so a third visit will probably wait given all the other options now available.
Foie Gras may be on the menu
I’ve heard a LOT about this restaurant and we made reservations about a month in advance of us travelling to Montreal.
Really glad we did as we received not only great service but even better food!
Our starter was the foie gras poutine. It. Was. Omg.
Rich foie gras with rich cheese curds with rich gravy over top of duck fat fries. It just works and the fries almost taste like they’re made from yam with all that flavour.
Next up with their famous duck in a can. Not sure how they did it but they have a fully cooked duck breast with foie gras in a can that they open up at your table. It is super decadent! Duck was not as tender as I would have liked and it is an experience like no other.
We also had their foie gram mapo tofu. You might wonder how that works? Just go with it because it does! Their PDC dinner is an elevated mac&cheese with bacon and foie gras. Another decadent dish. Their okonomiyaki is so delicate but loaded up with shrimp, bacon, cheddar and maple bbq sauce.
After we gorged ourselves, we walked back to the hotel instead hoping it would clear our arteries.
BTW, that drink is a ginette. Super delicious if you’re a gin fan!
And that last pic is part of the PDC staff. Not sure if it was intentional but hilarious seeing that in our photo roll!
Over hyped
Over hyped. The food was very salty and unbalanced. Not what you expect when you pay that price. The meals cost around 80 per person and were sub par.
Be the first to ReplyHype for bad food
I accept expensive but the food was awful. Service very good
Duck in a can was 51$. Total gristle. You needed a hacksaw to cut. Also the foie gras Mah poi tofu was a big mess. Not worthy of a fine restaurant Blue cheese salad was good.
Total hype for nothing
Great service and food!
