Not all customers are in the same boat.... little professionalism
We like to treat ourselves for our respective birthdays and returning to the region after 40 years we chose the St Walfrid Inn Excellent welcome..... We choose the Grand Est flavor menu... Amuse bouche...we serve oysters without asking if anyone was allergic to shellfish Then crumbled First Sprout Crab Flesh from the Garden..tasteless without taste lack of seasoning Then Wild Perch Fillet, Plectranthus White Butter lightly Saffroned again without taste a bit as if the chef does not taste his dishes before sending them Then Poached Egg with Winter Truffle...poached not hard-boiled egg.... if a star doesn't know how to cook a poached egg it's serious Then Piece of “Angus” Beef certified of “Ireland” Origin -...cooking not requested before service....I didn't know that Ireland was part of the greater region since the name of the menu is flavor grand is... cooking blue beef very blue not to everyone's taste... it must be recognized excellent and finally seasoned... The following Trolley of Cheeses from here and elsewhere Fresh and Aged Hervé Mons “Maître Affineur”..... platy cheeses (Munster and Chaource) any other 2 and to finish the best of the Financier menu and Fig Compote Light Cream flavored with Cardamom - Orange Sorbet In conclusion, at no time were we asked if everything was going well, we never ask the customer if they have any food allergy, no request to cook the meat..... in short we were 2 tables of which we was not busy just serving.... unlike some tables that I would describe as foreign At the exit we spoke with the staff about the problems... according to the person who took care of the bill, the sous vide cooking of the beef does not allow exceptions to be made. Worse, he told me that if there are 200 people in the restaurant we cannot satisfy every customer Too bad for him that we met Mr. Schneider at the exit who confirmed to us that under no circumstances is the cooking of beef done at low temperature and that special cooking is possible for each customer. This restaurant has nothing to do with a Michelin star, if you do not meet the establishment's criteria you will be ignored... the staff really doesn't care about the customer.... in short, a good gourmet restaurant but nothing exceptional. ..
Be the first to ReplyA (very) greedy score... tarnished by a few irritating flats...
We discovered the inn during a visit to the town (Sarreguemines), a visit dedicated to earthenware and its fabulous history. Moreover, some very beautiful pieces are on display and decorate the restaurant room. We let ourselves be tempted by the menu, "flavors of the great east", which gives pride of place to regional products (even if the chef implicitly recognizes on his menu, and... on the menu, that the Alsatian trout from Sparsbach are. ..) A special mention for the Gontrexange perch fillet, full of deliciousness and finesse. The presentation of the plate of Moselle beef (delicious) lacked precision and care for one of them. Hervé Mons cheeses, whose maturation is impeccable, are served generously. The dessert, presented as being with prunes, was...roborative. The room service is friendly, very friendly and professional. We will particularly praise the service of the sommelier, and for his kindness, his availability and his pedagogy in helping us discover the Domaine de la Folie, and rediscover the Clos Canarelli. The hotel rooms are spacious, the quality bedding allows you to spend restful nights. The breakfast is excellent value for money. The spa is functional and impeccably clean. Let's come to the downsides...: we were treated to our proximity, to a table of 13 guests (the Matuvu, Jean Foutre, Jean Saitout and Sarah Valé families), visibly regulars, with its share of cads and visibly feeling alone in the world and making us enjoy the silliness and vulgarity of their exchanges, without worrying of course that other guests perhaps and undoubtedly wanted to spend a...calm evening. Their level of good manners and tact is and was undoubtedly inversely proportional to the size of their car(s), some seeming to descend from the high peaks of Lorraine culminating, it is known, at more than 3000 meters and on very steep slopes...towards the abyss of ridicule. We were able to share the (sometimes very) derogatory comments made by some (and some!) about the service, once of course their backs were turned (what tact and what courage!) and the next morning at breakfast where this same table, very awkwardly installed in front of the buffet, put off one or the other couple present in the room, to the point of having moved so as not to suffer even more and more from the noise level and howling of these sad guests. We would also have appreciated, when paying the bill, a thank you and above all a more marked, less "refrigerating" sympathy. As for the orange tablecloths, were they from Garnier Thiebaud,... Greedy and not resentful (except with the c......), we will come back.

We like this restaurant very much. The rooms are not modern and purist but have a classic French touch and are decorated with great attention to detail. The illuminated display cases with the local Saargemünde reference in particular bear witness to historical relevance. I personally like that. The menu, the wine advice and the menu and especially the pleasant, well-organized service are top notch in my opinion.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent for celebrating an event or other!
Very pleasant setting, attentive servers, very high quality and sought-after dishes! No complaints! To recommend !
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing value for money
The dishes offered on the menu are not up to the prices charged! Foie gras in an open beef snout ravioli, apart from its pompous title, allows you to serve a frugal portion of foie gras! We are no longer served cereal bread, without explanation, as for the perfect Mirabelle plum, it confirms the impression described in the first course, pretty, tasteless and served sparingly! Has the Michelin guide become less demanding?
Be the first to ReplyEXCELLENT RESTAURANT IN MOSELLE
Excellent restaurant in Moselle. The classic decoration of the room, with its superb collection of Sarreguemines earthenware, worthy of the local museum, is striking, as it is the opposite of current star trends! Warm welcome, quality cuisine, revisited classic trend, generous wine list where you will find something to largely satisfy your tastes, depending on your budget. Highly recommended address in the region.
Be the first to ReplySuperb evening
With friends for an event we spent a very pleasant evening the SAVEURS DU GRAND EST menu that we chose was very good, very beautiful plate seen ≤ great taste from the first starter to the dessert and sweets....not to mention the nicely decorated room, terrace and the restaurant building and enlarged hotel....thanks to Mr Schneider and all his very professional team from Vanessa to Jean Jacques the sommelier who knows his job and will advise you.

The place is as warm as ever, the dishes are delicious and there is a splendid wine list. We have been here several times and never disappointed. The only downsides: Firstly, we always find the oysters that we shared for appetizers, because the 4 other guests don't like them. Secondly, I won't go into details, but there was a huge service fault when the meat dish arrived. Third, for a Michelin-starred restaurant, the Chef should come and see his guests at the end of his service, something he has completely skipped.

The restaurant is simply gorgeous, with beautiful tableware and unique dishes. The service is without fault - top notch all the way.
Be the first to ReplyPleasant lunch - Pity about the Garden construction site!
It's all about the food of course and there's nothing to complain about there. Quality ingredients well presented as you'd expect. The sweetbreads were perfectly cooked and a delightful dish. If you aim for the veal cutlet come hungry as it's huge but again perfectly prepared and one of the best I've ever had. Service was again as you'd expect, polite, courteous, efficient and discreet. If I had to be picky two things of note: The huge orange sun shades are effective but cast a strange orange light over everything, it would not be my choice but given the cost I expect there are here to stay. While the lunch was perfectly fine there was a lot of garden renovation underway and visually it's not a pleasant sight for a restaurant of this calibre. Again it's certain to be only a temporary eyesore but never the less setting table either further away or facing another direction might be a temporary solution! Otherwise great!

Very comfortable rooms. Excellent newly built annexe, especially comfortable during summertime as it is air condtioned.
We had a five course menu in the one star Michelin restaurant. The amuses bouche were nothing special, a.o. a simple oyster. First two courses, a crab dish followed by langoustine were very good. Third course lentilles were somewhat disappointing, nothing special. Main dish deer was very good, with lots of very good side, dishes. Dessert tarte tatin was somewhat disappointing, however with an excellent caramel icecream. Excellent wine choices. Very good professional service. Very good coffee and tea with traditional and good gourmandises. Quite nice and comfortable large restaurant.
