The food was very clean tasting and delicious.
Mediterranean is not my favorite cuisine but I was very satisfied. There's a lot of seating inside and the decor is very nice as well. I sat at the bar and the service was very accommodating. The food also came out really fast.

Stopped by Avli for the first time for Happy Hour and really enjoyed it! They only serve the happy hour menu at the bar, so it's good to get there on the earlier side to make sure you get a spot. They did ask my party to move over seats at one point in order to fit another party of 3, which we didn't mind at all. I appreciate they were trying to accommodate as many people at the bar as they could! The interior is a bit small but really cute. We also noticed there was an outdoor patio, which looked really nice as well. We started with drinks - I tried the Moscofilero Kyklos white which was okay but very sweet. The description did mention florals and citrus, so I guess it wasn't much of a surprise, but it was a little much for me and I wish they had a more moderate white included on the happy hour menu. I didn't get to try the Agiorgitiko Kyklos red but that's definitely what I'll try next time! My friends got the Mykonos Mule cocktail which I got to try, it was delicious and unexpectedly very cinnamon-y (I guess from the Rakomelo?), which was unique. For food, we tried the Tasting Plate of 3 spreads. It was perfect to split between three people so we could all try a bit of everything. We loved the Tzatziki and Tirokafteri (feta and red peppers), but none of us cared much for the Taramosalata (cod roe). We finished with the Baklava for dessert which was soo yummy - definitely the highlight. Overall a super cute place with a great happy hour menu, I look forward to coming back for a full meal sometime.
Be the first to ReplyPleasant food, other than overcooked pork souvlaki.
Warm ambiance , though like most places these days a little loud for my personal taste.
Be the first to ReplyI wanted to check this place out for a long time.
Tonight, I decided to splurge and order delivery. Frankly, I wish I had not. Do you: Want a place that doesn't season their beef (grizzly too) souvlaki and serves it near raw? Check. Want a place that couldn't season their Greek potatoes correctly (if even season them at all?) Check. Want a place that doesn't staple the delivery bag shut? Check. Want a place that puts out almost plain yogurt tasting Tzatziki? Check. Want a place that doesn't give you utensils or napkins for your delivery order? Check. Want to overpay for crappy food? Check. I only give this place a star because their feta and olives are on point. They need to fire their cooks and their kitchen staff. Disgusting, disappointing, and shameful. This happened during the prime dinner hour too. Wow.

So Good! Christina was an awesome hostess! She was friendly and very attentive. The food was amazing! Drinks were FAB! Atmosphere was great! I definitely am looking forward to going back when it's warmer out to enjoy this neighborhood spot!
Be the first to ReplyAvli Taverna is right here in the neighborhood.
The food is really good. Ordered gyros. They were good. Fries were good. Next time I'll order without all the feta cheese. We also had the chicken. It's very tasty and moist. Not dry at all. Also had hummus as an appetizer, good with pita !
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite Greek spot in Chicago.
I love the fresh ingredients, preparation of dishes and presentation. This is a great location on a quiet street in Lincoln park and has a lovely outside seating area as well as inside. There are heaters too for chilly nights. This place is very accommodating to families and has great customer service from the hostess to the wait staff. Everything feels clean and of good quality. The portions are perfect - not too big or too small. Both the melitzanosalata & moussaka are light and filling at the same time.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Greek salad.
The service was friendly and attentive. They had heaters for their patio, which was a nice surprise for Chicago. I would definitely return next time I'm in town.
Be the first to ReplyI was really looking forward to this dining experience.
We were initially met with no music, which heightened everyone else's conversation around us. Our server didn't get our drink order correct, after multiple times of explaining. We ordered food as soon as we sat down, yet waited over 30 minutes for it. When I asked how much longer our food would take (salad and octopus), he asked what I ordered. After telling him, I then watched him walk over to the POS and ring in our food.....after 30 minutes. This place is clearly high volume, but incapable of handling it. Do not come here if you expect a personalized, fine dining experience. Major disappointment is an understatement.
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot and great service.
We always have terrific meals at Avli. Excellent experience every time.
Be the first to ReplyNice greek restaurant in Lincoln Park.
Tons of free street parking but we took a Lyft. Had a reservation and were promptly seated. Ordered the Greek salad to start, which was more than enough for two people. Easily 3 and probably closer to 4 servings. The one annoying thing is the Kalamata olives were not pitted. We also had the soutzoukakia (lamb meatballs) which were okay, mainly because they were dry. They came out extremely fast, within minutes after ordering, which leads me to think they may be precooked and then frozen and reheated, which would explain the dryness. Finished off with the lavraki (sea bass) and basmati rice, which was good but they could have done a better job at the filet job because I had to pick through bones as I was eating it.
Be the first to ReplyWe loved the saginaki, tzaiki, and lamb meatballs.
They have gluten free pita too! The Diana salad was good as well. We will definitely be back.

If you're like me you've never read the description for Saganaki because it's a classic, but that's a mistake at Avli- they had the audacity to ruin Saganaki with peppered figs and honey as if it's your Aunt Becky's baked Brie. I'm giving them more than 1 star because the rest of the food was great (aside from the dessert- tiramisu) - my favorite was the pork souvlaki skewers. Service was great, ambiance was goid if a little loud. TL;DR, don't get the Saganaki (or order it without the sweets) and definitely don't get the tiramisu

Tried to be nice & call about it, but nobody would answer the phone. Ordered lamb chops & potatoes to-go, both severely undercooked (& i prefer medium rare).

I was looking forward to coming to Avli Taverna since I've been to both Avli on the Park and Avli River North. It's definitely a little bit more casual in Lincoln Park, but I still enjoyed all the plant decor and pictures of Greece. The cocktails were cute, but I wouldn't get the Teach Me To Dance again as the lemon juice was definitely fresh and the drink was pulpy which I'm just not a big fan of. The food was all really good with my favorite being the Moussaka Tselementes which was fantastic! The Lamb Gyros were also really good though I wish they came with a little more feta/tzatziki and I'm also used to raw onions not pickled onions. The Saganaki was also super good. I really enjoyed the sweetness of the honey and fig juxtaposed against the saltiness of the cheese.

.. YUM. Service, impeccable. Food always on point. I dreamt about the watermelon salad for weeks after. Simple but so perfect.
Be the first to ReplyFood here is really mediocre for a Greek restaurant.
How can a Greek restaurant make such a boring and bland Greek salad? The cod dip was ok and the baklava was very good but the rest was very mediocre. Also there was no bread offered. Fries were cold and very bland with too much feta.

While the food was great the service was so so, so I went from giving 4 to 3 stars. Sat outside during the summer and the vibe was great.

Delicious food, detailed and timely service, and a very upbeat and relaxed ambiance. I came here with my boyfriend for our anniversary, and I definitely recommend for any occasion!
Be the first to ReplyWhat a great spot for a little piece of Greece.
Loved the small plate options. Grilled artichokes and saganaki were delicious. Dark and Kinky and Teach me to Dance were both the perfectly crafted cocktail. Lamb chops and Grilled shrimp kabobs didn't disappoint. Loved the atmosphere and music! Great Lincoln Park gem!

I've had Avil before at the Timed Out Market, but this was my first time going to the restaurant itself and it did not disappoint. Cute, cozy restaurant with amazing food and service. We got the three spreads with pita which was a great starter to share. We also shared a Greek salad which was so refreshing. The star of the show was definitely the lamb gyro though! It was so good and the meat was thinly sliced which I appreciated and the pickled onions matched the dish so well. We also got a mezcal drink which I enjoyed, but there was a lot of pulp in the drink so I don't know if I would order it again. Overall, great ambiance with delicious food!

Raw meats, poor attempt at babaghanoush and fresh pita, obnoxiously loud music, subpar food. So, I have been here before, and would always avoid returning here because I know what the food is. However, it is on my way home (east LP) from the grocer, and one late evening my son was hungry and I didn't have enough in me to get home, unload, and begin cooking (7pm). Out of desperation and proximity to home, we stopped here to eat a quick bite before returning home. Tables were available on a Friday evening. The noise playing was deafening, but I think they are aiming for that nightclub vibe. We get seated and started with baba ghanoush with pita, Greek fries, Frappes, and octopus. I asked the waitress to bring the bread out as soon as possible so I can give my son something to nibble on. Baba ghanoush was flavorless (SKIP). The fries were home style fries with feta crumbles on top (SKIP). Octopus was OK. We were hungry, so we ate it...Beef Souvlaki- 2 skewers of raw meat. Now, I only usually eat medium-rare, and do not enjoy medium at all, but this was RARE... uncooked rare. I couldn't eat it, and didn't trust it to eat it. (SKIP)Papatouli eggplant entree- basically it was a failed attempt, again, at babaghanoush served with tiny triangular pita pieces. (SKIP)Frappes were terrible. (SKIP)The best part about Avli is the location in LP: pretty, tree-lined block of Wrightwood.$100+ for pita bread, about a tablespoon of mashed eggplant, and two skewers of raw beef. NO THANKS. Cedar Palace on Armitage is infinitely better.

I live in the neighborhood and used to frequent Avli often, however I do not think I will be returning anytime soon. This place has gone downhill in the last few months, but my last experience was the nail in the coffin. The lamb gyros have changed -- they used to be made with juicy and tender shredded lamb, but now they are filled with salty dry shaved meat. Seems like a cheap replacement. The other food we ordered during our last meal was dry and bland compared to how it used to be (chicken skewers and prawn appetizer). The service has also changed. The servers are not friendly and rush you through your meal. They would not let my husband order a simple mixed drink (vodka soda) and forced him to pick a drink off of the cocktail menu. This place almost feels like a counter service restaurant instead of a sit down experience lately -- that is how rushed you feel during meals. Hoping they take the feedback and turn things around.

Nice little Mediterranean spot in Chicago! The place was packed and guests flowed out into the patio space on the gorgeous summer evening we visited. We didn't have a reservation, but the manager moved some people around at the bar to accommodate us. This was so appreciated!!We sat at the bar and were served by a fantastic and engaging bartender, who's Greek accent made the dining experience that much more authentic! We started with the taziki grilled artichokes. My friend, who's gluten free, was able to snag some GF pita bread to enjoy with it. Great to know they have options for my gluten free friends out there. The taziki was good, but the artichokes were OUTSTANDING. It was easily our favorite thing we ate. So full of flavor and a great texture. For our main course, we shared the chicken souvlaki-- marinated chicken breast skewers, roasted tomatoes and onions. This was served with French fries. I really enjoyed it! We also got the Diana salad, which was just a tad lackluster. I would probably pass on this one next time. Overall though, I truly enjoyed the experience and many of the items we tried. I would love to come back and dine on the patio for brunch!
