Avra Miami Sunny Isles Beach Reviews from The Last Year

I recently dined at Avra, known for its prime location and fresh food. However, my experience was disappointing. The hostess pushed a heavy table into my feet, and the rushed servers made mistakes, such as mixing up still and sparkling water. They neglected to notice when my wine spilled, and when they finally did, they replaced my daughter's wine-soaked plate with a dessert plate but without utensils. No one cleaned the spilled wine or offered a replacement glass. This location needs urgent training to improve service standards.
Excellent Choice in Sunny Isles
This hotel is absolutely amazing! I believe I made a wise choice of hotel for my first Miami experience. From the service, the cleanliness, the experiences had, it definitely felt like home. The customer service is top notch, we dealt with Receptionist -Lia Ramjattan, Diego, there was a African American (short fit ) guy at the receptions desk as well, Cleaner Natiya, Bartenders (African American tall guy and a Blonde lady who operated on 15th Sunday May (were very accommodating and informative as to the local navigations). We got a lot for the cost of stay: cocktails daily, happy hour options, bottles of water daily, the breakfast was fresh and amazing every day, beach chairs. Very organized environment which I love. I would rate this hotel -100% Definitely, my choice of stay when visiting Miami. You won't regret it.

Beach Stay-Cation
We live locally and decided to do a stay-cation at the Residence Inn, Sunny Isles. We are so glad that we did. This property is centrally located to many restaurants and even a grocery store within walking distance. The beach is literally across the street too. What I really loved about this hotel is that there is a kitchenette in the room. On one night, we stayed in and cooked our own dinner. What a savings! We dined on our balcony overlooking the city with a delicious bottle of red wine. We will definitely return. We found all staff members to be very friendly, including the tall African-American gentleman upon check-in. The female bartender with the burgundy hair was a total peach too! They told us that the hotel was sold-out for 4th of July weekend, but in our opinion, no service detail was missed. Lastly, be prepared financially for many additional fees. Valet parking (the only option) is also expensive, but this is very typical for Miami, life in the big city.
It was a great stay!
It was a great stay. I really enjoyed the location and the view. The staff are so pleasant and kind. The restaurant’s food is excellent. I agree with another reviewer that the quesadillas are excellent! Lounging by the pool is really nice too. Make sure to use your amenities daily, including free water and a golf cart ride to and from the beachfront with beach chairs and towels included!

This food was fantastic, for me fancy dinners with my family are the most amazing meals. Avra has a great location and luxurious feel with wonderful decor and outdoor view. The service was great and the waitress was super kind in assisting us with certain dishes she recommended. It was overall very very yummy and worth it.
Bed bugs! Run!
Room is infested with bed bugs! Left at 2 am after getting bit and finding them everywhere in my room. I’ve stayed here a few times and this is the first time that I find the infestation of bed bugs- I called the reception and showed them the pictures and gave me a refund.

Excellent service and food! Sat at the bar since I was alone. Bartenders were on point and are a big reason why I will be back soon.
Beach Attendants
I stay at the Residence Inn and purchase their amenities package for the beach. The guys who work at the beach and provide the chairs, towels, and umbrellas are an incredible group of guys!! They do a excellent job helping me find the right beach chairs and get the umbrellas set up. Sabastian, Nono, Eddie, todays help Zay, John, Omari, Hector and Chris. Were professional, kind, and extremely helpful. Thank you to all of them for always doing a great job and providing excellent service!!
Avra, located in the luxurious Aqualina Estates in Sunny
Avra, located in the luxurious Aqualina Estates in Sunny Isles, offers a remarkable dining experience with a focus on traditional Greek cuisine. The ambiance is stunning, featuring elegant interiors, pool, and beach views from the outdoor patio, making it an ideal spot for date nights, family dinners, and special occasions. The menu is praised for its fresh seafood, with standout dishes like branzino, octopus, and Portuguese sardines. Diners also enjoy the Mediterranean appetizers and delectable desserts. The Miami Spice menu is a popular choice, offering a variety of delicious options. Service quality can vary, with some patrons noting exceptional attention and accommodation, while others experienced less satisfactory interactions with servers. Despite this, the overall experience is often redeemed by the beautiful setting and the quality of the food. Avra's atmosphere, combined with its high-end fine dining and breathtaking scenery, positions it as one of the most beautiful restaurants in South Florida. The restaurant maintains the quality and consistency of its New York City predecessors, making it a top choice for those seeking refined Greek cuisine in a picturesque location.
I won’t return
Location is good. Bed s and pillows are great but…breakfast is poor quality ( we stayed 6 days and 3 of them fruit was scarse), coffee undrinkable, no ham, cheese, oats. Not even fresh water. Plastic cutlery. Paper cups. We were three in a room for 4 but only 2 bottles of water were provided a day. 2 drinks in the bar, 2 towels and 2 chairs at the beach sun umbrella was not included in the deal so you needed to pay 24 usd a day. ( you need to walk 4/5 blocks to get to the seaside). We were charged 50 us extra with no explanation. Parking price starts in 37 usd plus taxes for a sedan and 45 for a bigger one. 5 usd is charged per package received before you get to the hotel. Room service was always done after 4 pm.

Quite possibly the best customer service I've ever had in any business in my entire life. Both the servers and the managers here know how to treat their customers! The food is great but the service is even better! Can't wait to go back!
Applauding this team;)
I’ll just say that my experience at the Residence Inn in Sunny Isles Miami Florida was very exceptional aside from the outstanding epic views. Laura was an amazing agent and was very precise with my request. I am grateful and I will definitely return.!!!
Complete Lack of Customer Service
I contacted the hotel prior to our arrival to assist in planning our trip (I am a corporate event planner, and it's just my nature to plan!). I reached out to their sales representative to ask about way to acknowledge my husband's birthday while onsite and to get recommendations for a great restaurant on the water. Jenny (sales rep) was incredibly unresponsive - she indicated she would call, but never did, and my last email was never acknowledged or responded to. I asked Jenny if guests had access to the hotel across the street (towel service and chairs on the beach) and she responded with a long explanation that the Aqualina was a high end hotel and only guests had access. I responded that I was asking about the Doubletree and NEVER received a response. I called the hotel to ask their customer service the same question and was told that since it was not a Marriott property we did not have access. We flew in quite early in the morning and I called to request early check-in when we landed (as a titanium member, this is a perk of the status) - the gentleman who answered the phone refused to check to see because they wouldn't know until we arrived - this same gentleman was abrasive and rude on the phone. So my husband and I went off to pick up some groceries and purchased beach chairs (since we had no access to beach chairs) and went to check in. Upon checking in, we were advised of the $50 resort fee - THAT INCLUDED USE OF THE TOWEL SERVICE AND BEACH CHAIRS AT THE DOUBLETREE ACROSS THE STREET. Unbelievable. Spent $100 on beach chairs that we did NOT need. My husband's birthday was not acknowledge in any way - this is a missed opportunity. During our stay, the chain in the toilet tank broke, so we called customer service and advised them, making a request that someone come up to repair the toilet while we were out. I was told someone would be right up. We returned 4.5 hours later to find it still not repaired. I wanted a nap so put the DND sign on the door. The next day I called about the toilet again (we had to keep putting our hands into the disgusting tank to get the toilet to flush) and was told it was my fault it was not repaired because I had the DND sign on the door. I guess 4.5 hours was not enough time to get someone up there the day before. One day I returned to the room in the afternoon to find housekeeping in my room, sitting on the edge of the bed on their phone. Not cool. We also found that housekeeping was extremely LOUD in the hallways outside the door talking to each other at 8 am. I get that this is not super early, but we were on vacation and just wanted to rest and sleep in. I sleep with ear plugs and they still woke me up. After our visit, the hotel manager sent an email asking for feedback regarding our stay. I responded advising Beata about some of the disappointing service we received and NEVER received any response or acknowledgement of any kind. It has now been two weeks and still nothing. This is a fairly expensive hotel ($450/night + $50/night resort fee + $35 parking), so my expectations in terms of customer service is quite high. I am also a Titanium member, planning significant corporate events, exclusively at Bonvoy properties - so I do expect a little more in terms of customer service. Unfortunately none of my expectations were met. In stark contrast, we stay at another (more budget friendly) Marriott property in Key West right afterwards and their level of service was off the charts. Super responsive to my requests, and went out of their way to make our stay memorable (balloons, cake and champagne in the room to acknowledge my husband's birthday).

The food is good, the ambiance beautiful, but the service
The food is good, the ambiance beautiful, but the service leaves a bit to be desired. Our server was very grouchy and kept trying to push us toward more expensive items, more expensive wine and even switched an app to a much more expensive entree. I called the manager the day after when I took a closer look at the bill and she was able to adjust for the sneaky upcharges. Took forever to get our wine. The food was delicious, everything from the zucchini and eggplant chips to the fish, but the prices are a bit outrageous. You're paying for the location after all. I did not like the baklava for dessert, it was tough as a rock (not soft and flaky like it should be) and did not taste like any baklava I've ever had. All in all, we probably would have had a much nicer experience here if it hadn't been for our unpleasant waiter. It was three of us (elegantly dressed middle aged ladies celebrating our friend's 50th birthday) and he single handedly ruined the mood and the evening for us. What a shame.

Food is amazing and service is great! Nice ambiance and having dinner outside over looking at the ocean is like a dream!
Don't waste your vacation here. Very poor service and bait and switch.
We reserved a room for 30 days. We checked with the front desk 4 times including the day we were checking in and they told us that the room which we requested was on hold for us. We spoke w Cole, Nick and another woman at the front desk that all confirmed that are room was waiting for us! We drove for 10 hrs. Only to be told the room was booked and would not be available for a few days. There was only a nite front desk man who said there was nothing he could do. There was not a manager on site and no one to speak with. As we walked in there was a panel of glass in the lobby that was shattered and we were told it had been that way for a month. The carpet & chairs at reception area were filthy. We stayed here once before, 2 years ago. We learned that it has since had 4 managers either quit or get fired and only a few housekeeping staff( only 1 at night.). Also, their lobby bathroom was dirty. We are currently in a tiny room facing the street w no balcony. Other balconies either face McDonalds or a parking lot on the other side. The room we were suppose to be booked in had a deck that was good for our service dog, this one has barely enough room for his bed. We are so disappointed. Not a way to start a vacation. The people who walked in after us had a similiar problem that the rooms they reserved were not available as well. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. Not worth the aggravation!!
Chicken was dry.
Salads were mediocre. Steaks were good. Ahi Tuna dish barely had fish. Service was horrible.

I'll be honest, if you're going to Avra, you probably aren't relying on a Yelp review. But just in case, let me assure you that the food is fantastic, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere is incredible.
Not Bad Actually
Besides for the valet (which takes a long time), this was a very easy stay, The room is not that big, but a rollaway bed still fit inside. Check in was easy and the wifi worked well. Furthermore, the staff are the fantastic and responded to any need,
LOUD, SLAMMING DOORS
The sound from people, and especially housekeeping/maintenace, letting the doors slam shut is very loud. Even at night (9pm), the housekeeping staff were letting the doors slam against the security bar, over and over again. The walls are thin, and they shake when someone lets the door slam shut. There are three floors with washer/dryers. The dryer was broken on one of the floors. Two of the floors have laundry detergent vending machines, but after trying both (but checking all three floors) I discovered that none of them worked! They sell laundry detergent in the lobby for a whopping $3 (but $1 from the non-functioning vending machines), and when I asked about the vending machines, I was told that they no longer stock those! What?! They should take them out of the laundry room, or put a note stating that detergent is for sale in the lobby! Very unimpressed with this hotel!
There's so much to say.
Amazing is an understatement! You really have to try here for yourself! Strongly suggest patio seating, nothing like hearing the ocean. Calamari, Salmon and the Lobster pasta are by far my favorites. I went twice in one week, back to back. The service is very to the T! Ask to get a intro to the selection of fish and seafood the restaurant offers! My favorite restaurant at the moment! The views inside and outside are breathtaking! This restaurant is located in one of the top resorts and residence in the nation, so you can only imagine!
Great stay with good amenities
We had a great stay here! It is a very reasonable price, the hotel rooms are very spacious, and we enjoyed the amenities. The pool at the hotel was great and we also had access to the pool and beach at the Double Tree across the street. Rachel at the pool bar provided excellent customer service and love that you get two free cocktails each day. :)
Beautiful hotel
Had a great stat at this beautiful property. Amazing staff and breakfast was back to 100%! I had a problem with the AC not working and leadership took total ownership of the situation and even though I had to change rooms made it seamless. The young lady not only brought up a cart but had two cookies and bottles of water placed in the new room. Ritz-Carlton level of service! If it was not for that nice touch I would not be writing this review. Well done. This was on Oct 21.
Horrible Experience
We got to the hotel at 1:30pm, and when we got there they let us know that 1 of our rooms was ready, but the 2nd one was being cleaned and wouldn't be ready until 4pm (when check-in starts). After that, we went back to the front desk to check on the room's status at 4pm check-in time and then again at 8pm and both times they said the room was "still being cleaned". To try and make up for it, they said we would get our first night of valet parking for free, but we were still charged for parking that night AND we didn't get our second room that we paid for until after 10pm!! Then, the second night we stayed there, the AC stopped working completely in our room and started to blow out hot air all night which made the room 86 degrees!! We notified the front desk and they came up and said we didn't work the thermostat correctly. When it still continued blowing out hot air, they informed us a few hours later that an engineer wasn't going to come and fix it until 7am the next morning, so we were in the heat the full night with no apologies. I am shocked that a hotel as big as Marriott doesn't have someone who is always on call, especially if the AC stops working in a Miami hotel during hot weather. The only saving grace for this hotel was that the two bartenders at their restaurant were absolutely wonderful and tried to make our experience at the hotel better after hearing about our problems we had with getting our second room in our reservation.
Sheets were not changed
I’ve stayed at the Residence Inn a couple of times and had a great experience. I returned on Sept 24th. This time not only was the lady at the front desk unfriendlyI but when I arrived in my room and lifted my sheets, they smelled bad with hair everywhere. Management sent staff to change the sheets and clean the room, but it is still unacceptable.

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
