Unique Rojak!
The rojak blends well with the ingredients. The ingredients used are fresh and I love the jellyfish. I will order the century egg next time!
Be the first to ReplyThe rojak is above average
We finally tried the rojak from this famous stall in Whampoa. We arrived around noon on a Sunday and there was a queue of around 8 to 9 persons ahead, and dutifully joined in. While in the queue, the helper will come take our order in advance.
We liked the fact that for our portion, the prawn paste and peanuts combination was fairly generous. This went very well with the fritters and dried bean curd, and the pineapple and mango help in giving the dish better flavours, although I would prefer the mango to be slightly more sour. Overall, we felt that the rojak is above average but do note one very important point - the queue is very very very slow moving.
Normal Taste Wonder Why The Hype?
Finally manage to try the "famous" rojak... besides 1 small bit of jelly fish, ginger flower and special chill dressing...really taste not "spectacular"...damage sgd$4...but i like it when not serve on foam plates
*"I: Boss, why i came pass two days u not open?
"Boss: u din see signage says closed on Monday & Tuesday.
"I: U place on your display glass and is only visible when you open your stall when grill is up...so how to see and know for first timer who comes by?
"Boss: What u mean? Is up ma, got signage.
"I Kept quiet.....thought to myself is ok la...is not my stall anyway...
Oh, well anyway really taste normal
..
Hae kor (shrimp paste) very little hence making the sauce very diluted. you-tiao (You char kuay) & tau-pok not toasted, hence NOT fragrant & crispy.
A very special mix of Rojak ingredients
A must try local delight in Singapore hawker centre . The mix is very special . It has century egg , squid , bean curd , bean shoots , pineapple and a crunchy pink fruit that looks like a little pear, mixed the special Rojak sauce of peanuts and prawn paste. The century egg really added to the flavour .
This place had a long queue and for those who follow Hong Kong celebrities it was visited by Chow Yum Fatt.
Not like it used to
Standard has dropped drastically!! Hae kor (shrimp paste) very little hence making the sauce very diluted. It used to be a lot darker in colour. The you-tiao & tau-pok not toasted, hence not fragrant & crispy. Instead it is "chewey" & not in a good way. Am extremely disappointed as have been eating it since young. Definitely won't recommend. Won't be back too. Probably explains why there wasn't a queue when I was there.
Be the first to ReplyBest rojak in Singapore
I've had this rojak since I was a boy. Before they received Bib Gourmand, I already loved this rojak. Queue was much shorter in those days. Expect to queue at least 30 minutes. Best rojak in Singapore - thanks to the sauce. I would rather pay more for this rojak with plenty ingredients than those $3 with nothing.
Be the first to Replyslightly better than average rojak out there
It is hard to tell exactly what makes them that slightly better than the rest, maybe its the hae kor or the tiny details like the lime zest or how thick they left the sauce instead of making it too watery and diluted. However the length of the queue can put u off. Try adding the century eggs to the rojak, the egg does taste better with the hae kor (shrimp paste)
Be the first to ReplyNo longer die die must eat
This rojak is no longer the same. It tastes different.
I can't seem to find the blue ginger flower and mango strips.
Sauce is no longer thick. I suspect they changed the brand of prawn paste. It just doesn't taste as good anymore. The old man used to display the prawn paste and century egg boxes but I didn't see them.
The young man took over from the old man for awhile only in the evenings and Sundays but I heard the old man has retired.
I am no longer motivated to travel 12 kilometres just to eat this rojak. What a pity.
Worth the Wait for this chinese salad.
They know their stuff here, they also are very accommodating to your request, like certain stuff that you may not like, they will leave it out. Beware long queue.
Be the first to ReplyTaste good and juicy. Must go early
I visited here when one of my friends recommended. the first time i visited the place, the rojak was sold out at 330pm although the business hours is supposed to be until 4pm.
I arrived at 3pm the next day and i was the last customer. the rojak was sold out. You have to really go early!
The rojak taste really nice. it was juicy and full of sauce. The owners sells only rojak and nothing else.
