Barbusa San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
Delicious food
Barbusa specializes in Scicilian cuisine and it’s A++. This place was packed and we showed up with no reservations at 8pm on a week night. Only outdoor dining was available for walk ins. We sat underneath the warm cozy heater. I got Granchio because it was blue crab in their special sauce. Absolutely delicious. It was a bit of everything, it’s sweet and tangy with a kick of spiciness in a creamy light sauce. Wasn’t planning to finish but I sure cleared my plate. My friend got the squid ink linguine with shrimp. That pasta had tons of shrimp but the sauce was not unique like the Granchio. Still good but I feel like I’ve had this elsewhere. We shared tempura squash blossoms as a starter and it was not my favorite. It was stuffed with four cheese (Quattro formaggi). Texture resembled light and fluffy sour cream. I don’t like cheese and I don’t like sour cream so this was not for me. Overall, great service, excellent food and ambiance.
Poor Service Experience I recently visited Barbusa on 3/24
Poor Service Experience I recently visited Barbusa on 3/24 and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. Despite being seated promptly, the service throughout the meal left much to be desired. The waitress seemed to ignore our table consistently, yet was attentive to older male patrons nearby. This disparity in attention made us feel undervalued as customers. While the food quality was decent, the overall dining experience was overshadowed by the lack of attentive/ rude service. I hope the restaurant addresses these issues to ensure a more equitable and enjoyable dining experience for all.
Table for 2, we booked on Open Table.
Little Italy parking can be tough, but we got lucky and snagged parking around the corner. We were seated at the high table and were greeted by our waitress. She was kind and gave us time to select our options. We chose the: granchio pasta, garlic bread and the prosciutto e tartufo pizza to share. The granchio pasta had good amount of blue crab, not at all too fishy. However, more Parmesan def helped elevate it. The garlic bread was toasted a little too much, I wish there was more of a chew on the bite. The prosciutto pizza was so/so... no sauce, just lots of cheese and arugula with some prosciutto on top. It honestly took some time to flag our waitress for Parmesan... so we were just sitting there for a bit. Also the ambiance is cute, however, it is LOUD in here.

Went to Barbusa with a girlfriend while on a work trip to San Diego. This place was AMAZING! We were so lucky to get a last minute reservation. This place is so cute and the ambience is awesome. It is elevated and chic, and everyone in their looked like they were having a great time. Our server was super helpful and friendly, and the food/drinks came out fast. The cocktail menu was impressive and expansive. The best drink was their Busa Espresso Martini. It actually is bottled and sold at other places in San Diego as well. It's THAT good. And it's made with oatmilk, which makes it so creamy!! We got the prosciutto pizza and bone marrow cavatelli. Both were delicious! Would highly recommend going here for any occasion!!

I gave two stars because the staff and the drinks were pretty great. Took a friend here for a going away dinner. I was excited to go as I had previously been here and absolutely loved the food. Unfortunately this place took a turn and it wasn't that great. The menu had undergone a complete refresh and we had ravioli and lasagna. Our ravioli was underwhelming and not very filling for the cost. Additionally it felt more like they were covered in peas than actual ravioli. Overall, minus another refresh of the menu, I'd probably only come back for the drinks.

Managed to snag an outside table for two without a reservation and the heat lamps kept us warm without a problem. You can never go wrong ordering anything on their menu and the squash blossoms, crab pasta, bone marrow pasta, and lamb lollipops are some of my favorites. Highly recommend as a good spot to take friends for consistent quality food and a great time.
Loved the food and service was excellent
We sat outside and it was very comfortable with the heaters and a great atmosphere on a beautiful night. We started with an appetizer, the Tempura Squash Blossom. It was so good that ordered another one! :) I had the lasagna and my friend had the Ravioli. Both were excellent. To top things off, our server Julianna was wonderful and so friendly! We will definitely be back next time we are in San Diego!
Best dining experience ever!
This is one heckuva place to eat dinner! We had the tempura squash blossom as an appetizer, and it was so darn good, we bartered another one! I have the ravioli which was to die for and my friend had the lasagna! Both were absolutely amazing and so tasty. Our waitress was Julianna, and she made our visit even better with her sweet and outgoing personality. All the waitstaff were very attentive and helpful. I will return to Barbusa!

Drove from vegas today straight to barbusa and I am very disappointed. We received our food way too fast (people who were sitting there before us didn't get there food until way after). I felt the reason we received it so quickly was to get us out of the restaurant (having 2 of our kids with us and all). I always order the granchio. Though today it was nothing like how I had it in the past. The noodles were not angel hair, it was fettuccine noodles and overall taste was very bland. We most likely will not come back here, which is a shame since we stop here every time we visit San diego.
Always a great and lively atmosphere.
The staff are incredible and so is the food. The lamb lollipops and the stuffed squash flowers are my two favorites. Can get loud because it is so wildly popular but we always have a good time when we start our nights at Barbusa!

Our waiter was incredible, we had a large group and he was very attentive, personable, and went above and beyond to help us make our birthday girl feel special. Great ambiance, aesthetic, and music. The food however, was not great. The appetizers were pretty good, so I'd recommend coming for like a happy hour type thing if you DO go. But the meals were not good. As pictured, the bolognese looked and tasted like it was out of a spaghetti-o can. The bone marrow pasta... could not get past that it looked like maggots, but also the meat tasted like breakfast sausage and after looking at other review's pictures I see they didn't even give us a bone!! We also got the garlic bread as an appetizer and I wish there had been like a marinara or something to dip it in as it was a little dry. My friend had the gnocchi, said it was good. Do not think I'll be going back or recommending to anyone.
One of the easiest 5 stars I've given.
Every employee we interacted with was a delight and, while the ambiance was pretty buoyant and lively for a Friday, it still felt cozy and like we were at home. Our table of 5 all tried a variety of options and none of them disappointed. The pastas were all cooked to perfection and the flatbread was extremely satisfying. As a garlic lover, the garlic toast as a starter was also a hit. I topped the night off with an espresso martini and it was lushes and satisfied the perfect sweet tooth. Whether a local or visiting San Diego, Barbusa should be at the top of your list.

Wow. Wish I could give more than 5 stars. This place was truly an amazing experience all around. Service, food, and we went with an almost 4 year old who was super cranky. The waiter did not flinch and was sooo accommodating and said, "we're kid friendly, whatever you need, I've got You!" That's never happened and I was so grateful. I wish we lived locally as we would be back often!
Overrated, expensive, untasty and bad service
Food is limited in taste and poorly presented… big plates do not compensate unflavored food. Price is really high for what you get and the service is terrible. Do not get caught in this tourist trap.
Very bad
Very bad customer service, I was very disappointed. They treated us terribly, they left us in the rain outside, the waiter was impeccable, the owner and the hosts were terrible, they had never treated me that way, it's not worth it.
Lovely place for a date in Little Italy
The taste of the food was good. But it was not hot enough, the taste would have been enhanced if it was served warmer. Friendly and good waitstaff
