Nice restaurant, but it has some improvements
Just had dinner her with my friend to celebrate our birthdays. The food and wine was great! The service was also very good. Some drawbacks was that it e did not get new cutlery for every dish, we had the full menu but only got new cutlery for the dessert, also the tables were extremely close together. For a restaurant that had and wants to get their Michelin star back we would have expected a bit more regarding this. Also when arriving we were asked if we wanted to enjoy a glass of champagne in their lounge before eating, which we said yes to. Their lounge was beautiful! But when we checked the bill upon paying we saw that one glass was 380NOK ($38), which is almost 1/3 of their wine package, I would have expected it to be a bit cheaper or at least be informed about the price before ordering. all in all it was a nice experience.

We went all in with wine and the large package and was not disappointed. There where new tastes never before tried, and some that was far beyond what one would imagine. Stellar service.
Be the first to ReplyGreat decor, beautiful presentation, one disappointment
This is a new incarnation for the Bare Michelin star restaurant in Bergen Norway. It now has a new chef, Mr. Pak, and it has been open a week or so. The decor was very beautiful, and the cooking very good, and wonderfully presented. I had a disappointment that soured me on the dinner, however. We ordered the ten course dinner with wine pairing. Two of the courses suprisingly were were whale meat. I don't eat whale, so it was an eight course meal for me. I thought it was insensitive and ham-handed to serve whale. Maybe it was the Japanese chef, coupled with the fact that it is legal to kill whale in Norway. So you might want to verify that you won't be served whale (if you feel bad about eating it). I would never go back.

My wife and I visited Bare right after it reopened with Chef Pak at the helm. We got the 10 course tasting menu with the wine pairing. Chef Pak delivered each course personally and not only explained the serving, but also answered questions on the cooking technique and ingredients. The food was absolutely amazing and was a great combination of Japanese technique with Norwegian ingredients. The wine pairing was just as impressive and I would recommend spending the extra money for the experience. The service was attentive, prompt, detail focused, but yet still warm. At the end of the service, Chef Pak came to the table and asked questions about the evening and sincerely wanted to know if anything could be improved on. He spent a few minutes with us talking and I saw him do the same with every other table. The meal, service, ambiance, and experience were amazing. Even at this price point, it was one of those meals you remember for life.

Last week (fifth day since opening) I had the full tasting menu and it was a fantastic experience. - With Chef Pak at the helm you are in great hands. This worldfamous sushi samurai and his team have taken over Bare are serving excellence. Enjoy.
Be the first to ReplyInsanely good!!!
I visited this restaurant on the fifth day since reopening under chef Vladimir Pak and everything about the experience- food, ambience, service, people - were nothing short of impressive. Chef Pak’s Japanese-influenced menu celebrates Norwegian Sea food with a creative and unusual combination of flavours. I highly recommend the tasting menu that provides a great range of dishes. Another item to note about the restaurant is the great wine selection and the sommelier-educated owners and servers. I loved every minute of my experience at Bare and was very impressed by how chef Pak visited the tables to explain the food and asked for feedback on favourite dishes.

First visit to Bare, which was on its fifth day under leadership of its new chef - Pak - for dinner for two. We had the full tasting menu (~3.5hrs sitting time) with a non-alcoholic drink pairing. Food was fantastic - local ingredients in Japanese fusion style - with imaginative (and tasty!) drink pairings, and service was on point. The Chef co-served several dishes and towards the end of the night came to chat with each table to get feedback. A certain well-known Nordic Cuisine chef was also having dinner and clearly enjoying Bare's new concept as well.

Absolutely bizarre...made a reservation online a month before our visit and was put on the "wait list". Asked after we checked in and they said there is no "wait list" the website is faulty and the restaurant is closed. They will be getting a new chef and a new concept. Very odd since the hotel website still refers to the restaurant as existing.

We ordered a upgraded Wine package. Some of the wines was not aired long enough. I have lactose intolerance. The chef was told before we arived. But they did not now the difference between milk suggar and milk protein.

I don't think you can eat better anywhere in Bergen. We had the full tasting menu with 10+ courses and it was just a non stop tastebud bonanza. Dish after dish, mostly seafood, with the most wonderful flavor combinations and so unbelievably packed with flavor. It was 3,5 hours of gastronomic delight where the dishes came at a perfect pace; we never waited long for the next dish but still had time to appreciate the previous. I cannot fault anything about this evening, it was a terrific experience from A to Z.

Very, very overpriced food and wine
food was tasting mostly from oversaltet sauce (soya , I think )
the best course was the bread
sloppy service, a lot of waiters with a sloppy attention, we did not like the atmosphere in the restaurant.. They did not have decafe
Caffe was not included in meny at nok 1600 pro person
The star must have gone to their heads,
A very big disappointment, never again
Fourth time definitely not the charm
To be fair, food is excellent, service during the meal friendly and professional, and the sommelier served some beautiful wines. Expensive, but that's expected for fine dining at this level.
However, the nice culinary experiences we gained this evening were completely eradicated by a surprisingly rude bartender after the meal. He was serving unprovoked ridiculous accusations with an attitude that made us leave in anger. Definitely not the culmination of the evening that we were expecting after paying roughly $2300 for four persons.
This was our fourth time visiting BARE, and due to the experiences we have from the last visit they've now lost a promoter for the restaurant. We will never visit BARE again.
Fantastic exeperience in every regard
Great service, great and imaginative food with perfect wine pairings. Lovely venue with very attentive staff; food has attention to detail with perfect tasting menu portions.
