Just amazing!
If you like hot and good asian food this is a place to visit. We had fantastic dishes and we said after we left the restaurant - we have to go back again and with friends.
Be the first to ReplyBarshu cares about food and it shows
So we visited with friends a couple of weeks ago and as these friends don't do fish we came back for the roast sea bass. Both visits went well. Service excellent each time. The menu seems authentic, has plenty of photographs to help you choose and guidance about the chilli heat. Vegetarians and vegans seem well catered for. Tick list ordering system helps everyone. Dishes are distinctive and the flavours wonderfully fresh. In no particular order we thoroughly enjoyed pork rolls (4), sichaun chicken (12), bashed cucumber (13) spring rolls, salt and pepper soft shell crab, roast sea bass, General Tso's chicken (66). Delicious! Everything we saw being delivered to other tables looked great. Feel confident about taking friends visiting from Hong Kong over the summer to Barshu.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing & pricey
I’d heard this place was supposed to be one of the stand out places to eat in China town / Soho. The staff were helpful enough but I found the various dishes either too salty, too spicy or too bland. And it was pretty expensive as well. I really think a lot of high street Chinese takeaways would match or better the food here and for a third of the price

Terrible service, had to waive a waiter down on every occasion. No service as you have to tick a piece of paper yourself and hand in - (waste of paper). We ordered salt & pepper squid and got salt and paper soft shell crab, two dishes arrived, lukewarm, 15 minutes later two others arrived, another 15 minutes the last one arrived - they should have all arrived at the same time! Asked if we could have the food all together after waiving waiter down again and was told "I hope so" !! Food overly salted, vegetarion beancurd bland, sticky rice tasteless, ordered The Legendary Dan Dan noodles that were called 'meat free' on the menu - ended up with minced pork in them.We are vegetarion........ Bill arrived with 12.5% service on it - for what??? Utter Emperors New Clothes! - DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY.

Went as a group of 6 for a late lunch. We had plenty of space, weren’t rushed and the staff were very extremely attentive. Menu had plenty of choice and it was all extremely tasty, if you’re averse to offal it might not be for you but if you’re open to spice and some food you won’t get elsewhere then give it a go.
Be the first to ReplyAn authentic sichuan treat!
We have been a regular at Barshu London. I can safely say that Barshu is one of best sichuan Chinese restaurants in London. Special call out for Oscar and Oscar ( yes, there are 2 😀) with rest of the staff who make the experience even better ! They have not compromised on the taste and quality even during these inflation times when every other restaurant around has deteriorated in quality.
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelmed and not worth the price
Underwhelming and overpriced. It was good of them to squeeze us in on a busy pre-dinner Thursday but that was where it ended. At £50 for 2 bowls of very ordinary chicken egg fried rice, dumpling with a soy sauce that mainly tasted of vinegar and ok noodles it left us feeling ripped off. I am quite pleased the wine we ordered did not arrive and therefore did not contribute to the bill.
Be the first to ReplyTotal rip off .Dreadful food and appalling service
The whole 'dining' experience was memorable for all the wrong reasons.Food portion size was minute especially for a party of 10. Dishes were poorly prepared and presented and waiting staff rude and abrupt. Distinct impression of eat up ,pay up and get out ! Rushed with no desserts or coffee. £500 for my worst meal ever ! Clearly no interest in customer satisfaction or repeat trade being central London.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent, authentic chinese. Friendly service.
1st of all, I lived in Suzhou near Shanghai for four years where I fell in love with the enormous range of chinese cooking styles. Sadly its almost impossible to find anywhere in the UK where you can eat food that tastes like something you might actually eat in China. Nearly all UK Chinese restarants offer Hong Kong recipes modified for English consumption. So I was happy to discover Barshu where the food is very close to authentic, very high quality with a core of Sichuan styled recipes and some mainland classics on the menu too. I've now been several times including with Chinese friends who won't normally eat in Soho because they think the so called chinese food there is bad. We all thought the food was great. Staff are friendly, food arrives quickly. Sometimes hard to get a table which is a good sign. Faves are the seabass and the crushed cucumber in tahini. Yum !

The food was just outstanding! One of the very best restaurants I've had the pleasure of going to. We all just wanted to stay and eat more and more. Really stellar and can't wait to go back! We went between shows of Harry Potter and it was super close to walk to!
Be the first to ReplyVariety of tasty food.
The taste of each dish was different and surprising. Everything was very good. We had a variety of dishes. Cauliflower, prawns with cashews.
Be the first to ReplyGood Sichuan restaurant
Very good Sichuan cuisine. Nice welcome from staff. Friendly, unrushed service. Wide selection of dishes, all well cooked and well presented. Sadly, they don’t serve coffee. Would return.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible food
Food was awful. The chicken in black bean had more oil than a black bean sauce. It was swimming in oil so sickening. Staff very rude. Felt rushed to order as the waiter kept looking at the paper for one. Then they had a service charge already on the bill for £20 ?! I was not going to pay that much as a tip for the food we received. The old women didn’t seem to happy with me asking to remove the service charge. Don’t go not worth the money….
Be the first to ReplyTerrible service, bad food and rude staff.
Terrible service, very rude staff and the food although looked good tasted horrible. The waitress kept coming and just standing at the table and without speaking and looking for an order. The bill was thrown down before we finished and the manager started shutting the blinds, locking the doors next to us with big chains etc and it was only 9:50 in the evening. They took us in with limited time until they closed and they never informed us it closed at 10:00. We got informed at 10 we had 5 mins to finish and leave. Rudest place I’ve been.
Be the first to ReplySpicey and Fabulous!
Though we were headed to a different type of restaurant this place looked bright and cheerful, with all the tables occupied and the customers looked happy. The friendly staff gave us a recently vacated table for two . The menu was vast ( and profusely illustrated) and we were spoiled for choice. We ordered three dishes to share and all of them were superb. Lamb with chillies, Dan Dan Noodles with ground pork, and fried soft-shelled crab . All were on the spicy side which is what we wanted.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Sichuan Restaurant !
We made a reservation at Barshu because it had a big write-up in a supermarket magazineI - think it was Waitrose? don't know where to begin really......this restaurant certainly came up to expectations. The food is amazing. We had Roast Sea Bass with garlicky sauce (never had anything like it and it was amazing), dry wok prawns, sweet and sour pork, traditional dumplings, farmhouse fried rice and the legendary dan dan noodles. The presentation of the food is fabulous. It is not cheap but was worth every penny. We can't wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplyNUT ALLERGIES: restauraant policy needs addressing
I was here last night with friends, one of whom has nut allergies, and despite that loves to to Sichuan restaurants and frequently eats there in the Midlands and elsewhere.
Unfortunately, upon giving notice to the staff, he was given the choice to have only two or three vegetarian dishes in the whole menu, despite an abundance of dishes that did not seem to contain any nuts. This would certainly have deterred us from going there that night. It is sad to see that the menu has a detailed set of icons to describe dishes ('really spicy', 'vegetarian', etc.), including a 'contains nuts' which *we could not find on any dish* in there.
I am sad to have to leave a bad review to a place that otherwise provides a great variety of really good dishes, but clearly does not take this issue seriously, which is surprising in central London: either the menu and the site need to make it clear that nut allergies are a no go, or it needs to make changes to its practices.
The reaction of the staff appeared also, unfortunately, rather defensive and hard-line, which is a shame, as this establishment sesems successful and established enough to go the extra mile and accommodate this kind of disappointment (we were given a reduction of £13 on a bill of around £260, but had we not had plans to go to a show we would probably have left before the meal looked for another place right away).
Avoid if you have allergies
Very disappointed. They didn’t cater for my partner’s nut allergy despite the fact that the menu listed a lot of nut free dishes. He was stuck with bland cauliflower or pckchoi with steamed rice. Not at all what we came for. Staff was very unhelpful. A ruined night out.
Be the first to ReplyStay away if you have allergies: awful place
The worst restaurant I have been to in a long time. I have a nut allergy and despite the fact that the menu shows lots of dishes without nuts, it turns out that you can only have some tasteless cauliflower or pak choi. The stuff and management was unhelpful and bordering rude. Do not come here!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food, too cramped
I love the food here, but the experience was badly let down by cramming 5 people onto what would have been a small table for 4. Will now be checking out new competitors before coming back
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, Rushed Service
We went to Barshu on New Year's Eve in 2021. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. The menu is loaded with great options making it impossible to pick. The smacked cucumber was great (and different than most with more sesame paste). The green beans were amazing, perfectly cooked in great spice and preserved vegetables. The portions of fried rice were massive. We loved everything, even though we completely over-ordered. My only complaint is that everything we ordered came out at once, so the table was overflowing with no room for drinks, but also making the meal feel rushed.

Fabulous authentic Sichuan food. Exemplary service. We enjoyed our evening meal and are thrilled to have discovered Barshu. Definitely will be coming back more often as it’s one of the best Sichuan places we have found in London!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Vegetarian options
We were a group of 5 that tired Barshu for the first time before going on to see a film (The Apartment) at the Prince Charles. Of the 5 of us 3 are vegetarians. We tried the 'peng beencurd and green beans' the 'aubergine and green beans' and the stir fried bean curd and they were all superb. I think this was the best vegetarian Chinese food I've ever had. The 2 meat eaters also enjoyed their chicken and pork very much. The stuff were friendly and good fun. Highly recommended.
