Amazing unique experience, doesn't disappoint!
I have no clue how I found out about this place, but it’s a gem to say the least. Batsu in the EV is a Japanese comedy show….and I’d say it’s a mix of 50% Who’s Line is it Anyways….50% Impractical Jokers…..25% Jacka** and 25% Wild N Out. Batsu itself if the experience of the losing team/person doing something unpleasant as punishment. It's pretty inconspicuous when walking by, so be careful not to pass it. The food was all deliciousness, didn't get any pics as it was dark since we got served after the show started. It's communal seating as well, so you'll be close with others depending on the size of your group. Great diverse show and I’m so thankful I did not, repeat, DID NOT, volunteer to be a participant. Of course one of my friends entered into the mix, and ya’ll, after the first audience participation stunt….I would have lost the contents of my stomach on stage….HARD PASS. I won’t give away what they did…but here is some of their punishment: A guys' punishment (he worked there) was to put his hands onto a tray full of live mouse traps…and just have them cut off circulation to his fingers?!?!?! I mean…come on folks…. I'd totally go back as it seems they do different things each round. Highly recommend if you get to go.

This is not a stand-up comedy show or anything like it. If you like to drink pitchers of beer, then enjoy some rather outrageous antics; this show is for you. If you have a sense of humor that focuses on bodily functions; then this show is for you. If you like to see other people take on challenges that are disgusting or painful; then this show is for you. If you like slapstick comedy; then this show is for you. The room, the set-up, the food, the drink are all acceptable. The dancing acts by the between acts entertainers were skillful with their purpose left to your imagination. The comedians have wit that is the speed of light, absolutely amazing. Much as they were experts, the repartee was not necessarily funny, just fast. Although I'm familiar with this style of "punishment" in a game show, seeing it in person was extremely uncomfortable.

I never laughed so hard in my life, cast were great, food and drink also good. Will go back if I’m the city again
Be the first to ReplyA Ridiculously Fun Evening
We took our adult son who enjoys Japanese culture for a night out at Batsu. It was hysterically funny. This is an improv show with a great MC and four very clever and versatile comedians,a talented dancer and Noriko who metes out “Batsu” (which means punishment) whenever one of the cast fails at a comedic challenge. The punishments are certainly imaginative, sometimes gross and sometimes apparently moderately painful, but they kept us all laughing all night. They are not faking; these guys show you their marks. There are costumed characters dispensing Batsu and audience members participate and are punished sometimes too. I’m not sure how they chose the audience participants, but I was grateful not to be one. You can eat sushi and drink sake during the show. The menu isn’t huge, but the sushi we ordered was very good. The space, which has moved to 67 First Avenue at 4th Street, isn’t huge, so I would recommend buying tickets in advance. Also, the entrance on 4th Street isn’t really designated. We looked through a screen door, saw a sushi bar and knocked. I would definitely recommend this if you are in NY and looking for something new to do.

My girlfriend had gone to a show and told me to do this. I truly didn’t know what to expect... Japanese game show!?!? You guys this has it all! I had the greatest time, they play all sorts of hilarious and fun games, it’s so interactive, the actors are wonderful, kind, creative and hilarious!!!! I’m so sad they don’t have one in Houston. Please do yourself a favor and go.

Wow, so much fun. My face hurt from laughing. It’s a tight spot but the sushi is good and the show is great. Do yourself a favor and pay for the VIP seating and order as many pitchers of beer as possible before the show starts. Don’t be a drink jackass at the show. Let them performers do the entertaining

Looking for something a bit out of the ordinary, I stumbled on Batsu! I can say, it really lived up to the hype. Basically, it's four comedians playing improv games, the catch being whoever loses gets punished in some painful or embarrassing way. (And it's all real....they show their bruises.) The cast was on point and the sake ninja was generous. The only downside was an incredibly inebriated birthday girl who frequently wandered the stage and kept trying to take our drinks. That said, the performers managed to keep the show going and our entire table was in tears by the end. The husband won a free ticket which we passed on to a new friend we made outside UCB. We really want everyone to see this show!

The experience was definitely one of a kind and great for groups. If you're looking to have a boozy night out with your buds try it. The show was the perfect balance of fun, laughter, and some crazy people. If you can, get the VIP table for more interaction throughout the show.
