We dined here in mid-November, and I’ve waited three months to write this review to see if I’d be less mad about the experience we had here. I am not. I’ve lived in Chicago for nearly four years. My fiancé grew up here. We have been fortunate enough to dine at some of the best restaurants in Chicago, and we both agreed this is one of the worst meals we’ve ever had in this city. Don’t get me wrong, the decor is beautiful. That’s how they suck you in. We certainly sat down with high expectations and, after reading stellar reviews, we were ready to be blown away. Disappointed is an extreme understatement. We dined here with another couple, and we walked out of this restaurant embarrassed that we had suggested this place for dinner. Not only is the food insanely overpriced, but the quality was seriously mediocre. The steak we ordered was tough and fatty. We ordered it medium well, and it came medium rare. The couple we were dining with didn’t even eat their steak. I knew they had to be hungry, because the previous four dishes we had ordered were so tiny, they only allowed for each person to have quarter-sized portions of food. The bill was four digits, and we all left hungry. On top of that, the service was mid-tier. Also, there is NO bathroom upstairs. You have to take the elevator down two floors to the basement of the building. If I’m dining at a world-class chef’s restaurant, I’d certainly expect for there to be a restroom that isn’t essentially a parking garage bathroom. I’m giving this place two stars solely for the fact that the tartare was amazing, and the chocolate banana soufflé dessert was out of this world. The saving grace of this whole experience is that we didn’t dine here with anyone from out of town. I would’ve hated for this to be someone’s first experience eating out in Chicago, as it’s certainly not reflective of all the incredible restaurants we have here. I’d choose McDonalds over this place. We will absolutely not be back, and we would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.
