Food is Outstanding
My son took me and my wife to eat at Bernie’s Holiday Restaurant. My son ordered 2 appetizers. The first was braised ribs and the second appetizer was peanut coated scallops with a purée sauce that was outstanding. My son ordered pork chops with garlic mash potatoes and a vegetable. My wife and I ordered the House Salad which was an Asian Dish with shrimp ,chicken, and all kinds of Asian vegetables. There was enough there for a second meal which we brought home. I loved the cinnamon bread that came with the meal. The meal was a bit pricy but was well worth the price. This is the best restaurant meal that I have ever eaten out. I cannot wait to return to this restaurant. Thanks for the great meal.

The last place we expected such excellent dining! But Bernie's was all of it. My wife had stopped here with her father over 20 years ago on a drive from Toronto to NYC and it was great. We were in the area and came back. A do-not-miss place.

We have been going there for years. Actually from a time the original Bernie owned it. The food is always excellent and the service exquisite.

Local friends took me out for a very satisfying birthday dinner at Bernie’s. Service was friendly and professional and the food was delicious. I especially enjoyed my seared tuna enhanced by black rice over a bed of Asian vegetables. Their bartender was truly a professional, old school making delicious cocktails. Outdoor heated Dining was available and greatly appreciated. Oh and be sure to try their onion soup it is truly the best I had ever taste. Please see my photos.

We had a table of 6 that hadn’t been out much due to covid. We had a great meal with great service and appreciated the ability to gather with friends. One of our party was gluten free and the staff was very accommodating for substituting sides.

We had a great night and went to Bernie's after a live outdoor show. Had the Dodge Steak (a Sullivan Catskill favorite) and a Lobster Tail. The food and dinner is.over priced. , but i.would have to say best possible food In the entire Middletown/Sullivan county. The Clams steamers were amazing. Nice job. It was a very good.dinner . If in area i would say hands down best food you will find , but be prepared for.the bill. Excellent!!!

Getting back to a restaurant was a long awaited experience. We used the birthday of one of the grandkids as a good excuse to make our first pandemic era restaurant outing. Truly good restaurants are hard to find in Sullivan County, but Bernie's Holiday Restaurant is certainly one of them.
We made a reservation for outdoor dining and got great weather. There were plenty of patrons inside, but the restaurant was nicely set up for outdoor service. They had a patio on one side of the indoor seating and a larger outdoor section on the other side. We sat in what appeared to be a permanent outside area and there was additional seating under a tent in back of the section where we were seated. The atmosphere was very pleasant with the good weather.
The food was likewise very good. I got a steak, nicely done and tasty. It wasn't the best steak I ever ate, but wasn't priced like a New York City steakhouse either. I don't think anyone would have been disappointed. My wife enjoyed a stuffed lobster. She commented that the lobster itself was good, but that the stuffing was amazing. My granddaughter got surf and turf and was very happy with her dinner.
The service was very good as well. It was attentive without being to much. The owner of the restaurant checked on all the tables. That's always a nice touch. To sum up this is a very good restaurant. It isn't the best you will ever visit, but well worth the trip if you happen to be traveling along NY 17. It's right off the highway. One more comment is that the restaurant automatically adds a 20% gratuity on all bills. That is made clear with a sign when entering. That's not a problem for me because the servers earn their tips.
Worth a trip - delicious dinner and great service!
We were surprised and delighted by this fantastic restaurant on a recent visit to Monticello. The service was fantastic and the food, even better. First taste delight was the homemade cinnamon bread - I wanted to buy a loaf and take it home! We shared three appetizers among four people and enjoyed the Ahi Tuna Stack and lamb chops. The potstickers were just OK but clearly homemade. The best dish and most amazing dish was the Brazilian Seafood Stew with scallops, shrimp, calamares, mussels and cod in a tomato coconut milk broth. It was absolutely decious without being spicy or sweet. I brought half home and mixed it with homemade linguini the next day with enough for dinner for two. The local pecan crusted trout was also delicious. Don't miss this fantastic restaurant if you are in the area!

My wife and I stopped here for dinner while traveling through the area. The experience exceeded all of our expectations. We travel this route frequently and usually opt for a diner for a meal. The BHR is definitely not a diner. As soon as you enter the dining room and see the linen tablecloths and napkins you know this is not the usual roadside restaurant. I had the Brazilian seafood stew and my wife had a Chinese dish with rice noodles and seafood since she maintains a gluten free diet. Both dishes were exceptional. The freshly baked cinnamon bread at the start of the meal is enough reason alone to stop here again on our next trip. We will definitely be back. Even though this was fine dining the service was excellent and we felt the reasonable time off the road was well worth it.

We Happened to be up at the casino as we do on occasion. Usually we end up at the steak restaurant for dinner. Been doing it for a while so we got to know a majority of the staff.
Tonight we were told that they are all booked for tonight. That was around 7:50. So we drove to Bernie’s Holiday Restaurant. Haven’t been there since Bernie owned it.
We figured to give it a try. Was told a good review by Bernie’s daughter by the way. The service and food was above board. Being only 10 minutes from the casino, even a back and forth is not too terrible to escape the casino for a great meal. Thanks for the experience.
Great food!
Happily they made room for us on a Saturday, we started with Poke, which was tasty and beautifully plated, the salads were crisp with homemade dressing and my trout was divine. Waitstaff was terribly accommodating to a food allergy. Tables are a bit crowded but we didn't have reservations and they go us in so no worries on that account, the food was worth it, Presentation on par with some of the best. When nearby, I'd go back, It's a winner. Recommended.
