Great food; terrible chairs
Third time eating at Bistro Don Giovanni's. The restaurant is beautiful with fireplaces, large patio, and gardens. Service is top-notch. Food is always excellent, especially the bruschetta. Huge wine list. The only problem we experienced in our last visit (03/22/23) was the extremely uncomfortable chairs. If you are placed in the room on the east side of restaurant, ask to be moved elsewhere. The chairs in this room are so uncomfortable that I would prefer to sit on a block of granite. All of us were uncomfortable within minutes of being seated. When making a reservation specify that you do not want to be seated in the east-side room.

We loved everything about this restaurant: the outdoor setting, the service and the food and the ease of parking in their big gravel lot. We eat a lot of salmon at home and so it seems odd to describe Bistro Don Giovanni's salmon as my best meal of 2022 but it was truly exceptional. The wonderful, large patio is surrounded by the restaurant's vegetable garden and we saw the chef picking tomatoes off the vine. There were also many tomatoes rotting on the vine- their cup runneth over.. they should consider selling boxes of extra produce to their customers. Even the cookies were exceptional. We had a toddler with us who was luckily on perfect behavior that evening but the outdoor setting would also be ideal for families with youngsters- so spacious and the fans drown out noise. We were staying in a rental house outside of Napa and Bistro Don Giovanni was a highlight of our week.

Our sommelier from Robert Mondavi highly recommended this Bistro and we are happy we took his advice and had dinner here. The handkerchief pasta is amazing and both our main dishes were too generous: one chicken and one veal. WE shall return. Service was excellent.

We were in the restaurant 4 adults and three children for dinner. The place is very beautiful and well maintained. We sat in the garden of the restaurant. There are heaters and very cozy. The service is excellent. The menu is not huge. We ordered ravioli in lemon sauce - a small and tasty dish, pasta with seafood - excellent and rich, branzini - good, pizza for children (there is no children's menu) - good, reasonable ice cream for dessert. We really enjoyed the evening.

We came here on a Friday night and the place was PACKED! Their menu encourages ride share, I’d suggest that as well, as the lot was packed, but we were fortunate to find a spot. They have a nice menu loaded with lots salad and pasta options. The protein section was somewhat limited. Our service was very good. Their wine list is nicely done and they offer a large selection. They also have a nice cocktail list. We started with their pear and chicory salad and it was amazing! The gargonzola sauce on the bottom was a nice touch to the vinaigrette used on the salad itself. The entire salad was very fresh and something we enjoyed every bite of! The next course was their silk pasta dish. The pasta was in large ‘sheets and perfectly al dente, as well as made to the perfect thickness and the pesto sauce was unbelievable! Their Pollo diavolo was excellent! One of the best I’ve ever had! Nice and spicy! We sat outside, near the fountain in their huge courtyard dining area and we stayed plenty warm under all the heaters they have. Definitely suggest visiting here! We’ll be back!

It’s no wonder this restaurant has stood the test of time in the heart of wine country. From its comfort food to its great service, the ambience lends itself to a wonderful dining experience on the patio with friends. I highly recommend the veal parmigiana, the steak carpaccio, and any of the salads. The Cesar is great because it comes with real anchovies on the top. The service was excellent and my company was even better. Maybe it’s nostalgic, but overall, it just is a great restaurant for wonderful pasta dishes.

This restaurant was recommended by locals at the wineries and did not disappoint, food was perfect along with the laid back atmosphere!

We tried the grilled octopus, meatballs and carpaccio salad and I was amazed by the flavors. Simple ingredients but had depth in flavor! I highly recommend this restaurant and will be back again soon. Also, the service was excellent and staff friendly.
Be the first to ReplyGood, some details lacking..
We came with reservations on a relatively busy Saturday night. We were 20 minutes late for our reservation and were seated immediately nonetheless. The server was personable and attentive. We got the spaghetti with clams and the lamb shank. The spaghetti was fresh and hot, but relatively bland and nothing interesting. The lamb shank was quite good and was paired with some pinto beans that complimented it nicely. There were a couple of things that detracted from the experience: there wasn’t any silverware on the table when we were seated so the seater brought us a knife and fork…but no spoon. So, we ate our dinner with no spoon. Also, there was no olive oil on our table for the bread and no salt and pepper. We would have asked for these items had we known they were missing but we didn’t realize we didn’t have them until our food was set down and the server had already left. Also, we got seated outside and the patio heater wasn’t working so we tried to get it working but the tank was empty. A busser saw us and came over to help, apparently the new heater needed a new propane tank. Overall pretty good, but would have been better with all three pieces of silverware and some olive oil.

We opted for well-spaced and comfortable outdoor seating on a beautiful summer night. Each course hit the mark—octopus salad appetizer, salmon entree and cookie platter/cappuccino dessert. Service was good as well. We will return the next time we’re in the area.
