Unfortunately, the food, service, and ambiance didn't work for me. At €230, I expected and deserved better. Left a horrible taste in my mouth (quite literally) for our last dinner in Venice. Food/drinks: We did the 4-course tasting menu. I was very excited they could work with gluten free and dairy free diet. Amuse bouche was squash purée and carrots (fine). Starter was sturgeon and prawns (both extremely good). Food was beautifully presented. Wine we selected was a delicious dry yet fruit forward rosé, with assistance from the sommelier. And sadly, it all went downhill from there. Pasta plate was supposed to be allergen free but something in it did not sit well in my stomach, so I left it largely untouched. Fish entree was a disaster; I got sick immediately upon taking a bite. Unfortunately, my stomach was too queasy at that point so I couldn't eat the replacement dish my partner insisted on or the following dessert. My partner had duck and tiramisu which he said were good.Ambiance: The best part of Venice for me is the atmosphere and people watching. Despite a reservation a week in advance, we were told we couldn't sit outside due to rain. That was a bummer, but being seated in the very back was even more of a bummer. It was intimate (only a few tables) but not interesting. We eventually requested to be moved outside, which they agreed to for dessert course because someone didn't show up. Service: This has an old school, "white glove"-like vibe, which I can confirm is not my preferred style. Were multiple staff present, quick to clear plates, multilingual, and mostly pleasant? Yes. Were they actually attentive to our needs? No. The waiter kept telling me not to worry when I asked him to confirm that we properly indicated my dietary restrictions. Our server kept asking to take my pasta plate, and finally when I told him I didn't like it, he smiled and nodded and nothing happened (English communication barrier?). By the 3rd course, my partner had to flag someone else down to tell them I spit it out and then he suggested I get a replacement dish when the waiter argued with us that it was "perfectly cooked". (The couple next to us also had problems with the same ombrine fish dish, with no apologies; they ordered a la carte and ended their meal there.) We weren't offered more water when our carafe was finished mid-meal; thank goodness for good wine. Here's the thing: we didn't say anything about paying the full price; we understand now that it's not always about the customer. And maybe some people will find this to their taste. This meal was 3.5 hours of our lives and a down payment on the handbag I've been eyeing that I'll never get back.
