TURN DOWN THE MUSIC!
Food-flawless. Service-excellent (and friendly). Abbreviated wine list-helpful (makes choosing simpler). This is only a 4/5 review though. The noise level is intense. It is a small dining room. I understand background music when the room is less than half full. Maybe you won’t hear a conversation 2 tables away. At full capacity the music just unnecessarily adds to the noise level. It is difficult to hear the people across the small table from you.
Be the first to ReplyPrepare for disappointment
Off season, Napa Valley there should be no excuses so prepare for disappointment. The beef bourguignon was a watery mush; The Salade Lyonnaise, salty globs of wetness (drenched, not dressed); “gnocchi” was, to be polite, not gnocchi (fried potato bread atop green ooze?) Most the clientele seemed too drunk to notice or care — as the wine seems to be this bistro’s raisin d’etre. Recommendation: avoid if you are planning to eat. Oh well!

It's challenging for a restaurant like this to live up to its reputation. Husband and I went for a delayed anniversary celebration on our first night in the area. Fun, bustling atmosphere. Very attentive service. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and gave helpful selections. Another server removed the bones from my sole as if she moonlights as a neurosurgeon. Impressive! Escargot appetizer was wonderful. Sole was good if unremarkable. Husband had Gnudi with truffles(pasta made from ricotta) that knocked our socks off. Lemon sorbet for dessert was refreshingly tart. The reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that we felt very rushed the whole meal. We had a 5:30 seating and we were in our car by 7:00. We aren't ones who tend to linger, but servers were consistently asking to remove plates with food on them. Due to the richness of the food, we would sometimes put down our forks to savor and take a break, but if the fork went down a server was trying to bus the table. This rushed feeling was compounded by similar service at the tables next to us. They really pack you in tightly and they are turning tables quickly, so the atmosphere was unrelaxed. Since this was a big splurge for us, I found the pace to be a little disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyA notable experience.
Lunch with friends proved to be a notable experience. The food quality and variety was excellent, the service attentive and inconspicuous, and the overall ambience most enjoyable. Sunchoke soup followed by rainbow trout were both to be recommended. These were well accompanied by the house white wine (a sauvignon blanc) from a local winery. There is an enticing selection of deserts.

We were celebrating a special occasion and thought we would go to Bouchon because we had enjoyed the food here before. We were disappointed. Service was lacking. Food was served cold. The manager was great in correcting the situation, but we probably will not be going back soon.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for a really good meal.
Food was great. Service was great. Decor is really well done. Highly recommend. it is pricey. Many go to the bakery next door for the excellent baked goods.

We were visiting Napa from the East Coast on October 26,of this year. We loved Yountville and chose to dine at Bouchon that evening. We were enjoying our meal when a large cockroach crawled out from under my plate , scittered across the table and ran under the bread. I was so nauseated, could not touch any of my remaining food and waved to our waiter. Previously congenial, he replied to my concern dismissively. We then asked for the manager who stated , “ There are always bugs in restaurants in Napa because of the vineyards !” Obviously this was not a typical “bug” that chose to come out of the dark and ruin our meal. When you see one, you can be sure there are hundreds elsewhere in the restaurant. We were getting our coats to leave when the waiter slammed a glass with our bill in it. He stated, “Taken care of !” and walked away. We never asked for have our bill “ taken care “ of. And he was rude and abrupt with us despite his previous congeniality. I’m just as upset about the cockroach as I was about the demeanor of the waiter and manager. A beautiful day in Yountville but quite an unpleasant night.

Best yet for our last night in Napa Valley! Beautiful bistro with lively crowd—sampled escargot, onion soup, more wine and steak frites—all delicious! Sat next to Alabama couple who understood our southern drawl and nice local couple who did not, but were teachable. Great spot for special date night and worth the drive if you are in the area!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and food
Our group of 6 had dinner at Bouchon in late February. Our server Rebecca was attentive without being invasive. She engaged in conversation and provided excellent wine recommendations to accompany our food selections. We sampled so many appetizers - escargots, pigs ears, onion soup, oysters on the half shell. All were delicious. The entrees of beef (chuck roast), duck, steak frites and cod were as well. This restaurant packs them in so you will not be in a quiet, intimate atmosphere. We were aware of this upon making the reservation and others should be as well. The price per person was generally $120 - $150 which included at least 2 glasses of wine for each of us. We all agreed, this meal was the gastronomical highlight of our 4 days in Napa.
Be the first to ReplyVery good Bistro but Michelin?
Honestly, we would have left if there were other restaurants open and close by. The restaurant was extremely loud, packed and people were seated so close to each other. The staff was very friendly, and we were seated close to another table. Our pate champagne was one of the best I have had in many years. The main dishes among them the steak frites and crab cakes were good, however, dishes that were to be compared to less star's restaurants. Just very good bistro fare. I can imagine they would do very well as well without the Michelin star.

Incredible food , service, atmosphere, and experience. Everything is top of the line and the specials are extraordinary. Get the steak frites, onion soup, croque madame, any soup. Do lunch and breakfast too. Reservations a must. Bakery disappointing because not many choices. Bread (especially the “épi” is fabulous. Don’t miss this place.

The food was salty. You will need a knife to eat the French onion soup. The restaurant has become louder (unlike restaurants in France).
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Food but Excessively Loud and Crowded
Overall, Bouchon was a good dinner. We had Oysters, Salmon Tartare, Gnudi with White Alba Truffles, Gnocchi with winter veggies and Lamb with brown butter flageolet beans. The Oysters were fresh so we enjoyed these as always. The Salmon tartare was surrounded by a mixture of crumbled hard boiled eggs, capers and chives which fell a little flat for us - when eaten by itself, it seemed under seasoned and fairly bland and when mixed with the salmon, it wasn't really additive and just felt like filler and to detract from the fact that the layer of salmon was fairly thin. The Gnudi was fantastic - it melted in your mouth and highlighted the white alba truffles beautifully. The gnocchi was also very good - I forget what our waitress said but it was not typical gnocchi. I want to say that it was ricotta and not potato so it was little softer than typical gnocchi and the panseared finish paired with the crispy kale and butternut squash gave a great mixture of crispy, soft and crunchy textures. The butternut squash also brightened the flavor and visual appeal dish. The Lamb was cooked perfectly and the beans with the lamb au jus was melt in your mouth creamy - a wonderful dish. Minus the salmon tartare, the food was wonderful. The servers were very nice but it was very loud and quite cramped. We were sitting so close to the other tables, it was hard to not over hear them and we ended up having conversations with the table next to us. When my husband and I go to a nice dinner, we typically like to be able to enjoy each other and have a conversation without shouting at each other. So, while the food was wonderful, the subtraction of the star is due to the ambiance and atmosphere.

A lovely French style restaurant. Plenty of parking. We had a carafe of house wine which was perfect. The French onion soup was everything you’d want it to be. I had the beef special which was perfect. A really wonderful place.
Be the first to ReplyNice Lunch Was Had!
While staying in the area, visiting various vineyards, we made reservations to visit Bouchon for lunch on a weekday, at lunchtime and the place was PACKED when we got there (so be sure to make reservations!). But, we were quickly greeted and seated and our server was prompt in taking care of us, telling us the specials and bringing us water. The venue is beautifully decorated! Looks like a French café and offers a raw bar at the bar. There’s outdoor and indoor seating, but it’s suggested to sit inside and take in the beauty! The menu is very nicely done… Many nice French entrées, salads, soups, etc. The items we ordered were very nicely done and came out in reasonable time. Definitely a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine with lunch and the company you’re with! Service, atmosphere, and food were all great! Highly recommend stopping in!

This restaurant I’m sure owes its popularity solely to the reputation of the French Laundry. Unable to score a reservation there, we opted to book at Bouchon. Firstly, upon arriving for our 5.30 booking, the noise! Dear Lord, the noise! However, we took this as a positive and reflective of its popularity. Next, we were taken to our table. The table had to be pulled out to be seated, as it was so close to its’ neighbours. My seat was the space between the 2 cushions. There was a 2 inch gap! Thankfully, there was an alternative table available when I complained I was uncomfortable. There is nothing worse though, than having to complain before you’ve even ordered. Our departed table was soon filled by another couple who must have accepted the poor seating. Next the bread. Lovely, warm, pretty bread. But no plate or knife. Just rip it apart, crumbs all over the paper table covering and away you go. We opted for the Grand Plateau, a tiered seafood dish consisting of lobster, oysters etc. unfortunately, so small was the table, the dish could not be accommodated comfortably. This resulted in it being elevated to 3 tiers. At this point, I was unable to see my dinner companion. We had to focus on clearing the top tier just so we could continue our date. We followed this up with steak tartare. It was served with bread so burned I had to ask to have it removed from my plate as the smell was overwhelming. The tartare itself was unseasoned and lacked the classic egg yolk. Service was good right up until we received the check. At this time, I’m spite of us having half a bottle of wine left, we did not see our server again. We retrieved our wine from its cooler (it couldn’t be on or near to our table due to the cramped conditions) and finished it off ourselves. Overall, disappointing. Would I return? Absolutely not. Would I recommend to friends? Also no!

Best steak I've ever had. The anisotropic was warm and comfortable. Definitely would recommend if you're in the Napa area!

Had our anniversary dinner here as there was a lot of hype about it being a Thomas Keller restaurant. The place was full. Reservations are advised. Arrived on time but our table was not ready as the previous seating decided to have dessert. These things happen. The lovely hostess gave us the option to wait or take the table that was available. We can’t fault the service at all. I did expect a luxurious environment and ambiance - It’s not that at all. It’s just a popular restaurant because it’s a celebrity chef’s place. There is no dress code. It had a come-as-you-are vibe. Food was good, service was great.

Perhaps we were at a different restaurant than some of the other reviewers, but our dinner was outstanding! We too have dined at some of the finest restaurants in the world and we would go back to Bouchon in a heartbeat. Welcomed graciously and comfortably seated, we found the staff the staff to most attentive. For starters/first course, we wanted to try a bunch of things, as we like to do, and were impressed with them all. We had the raw oysters, rillettes of salmon, escargots, deviled eggs, and their salad special, the stone fruit salad. I am very particular about escargots and they nailed it. It was cooked beautifully and perfectly flavored. For our main courses, we had the mussels, chicken, and Steak Bouchon. Everyone loved their mains and I am very fussy about my steak. The temperature of the meat was exactly to my requested medium rare and it was so perfectly seasoned that I ate most of it without the bearnaise sauce - I did some pommes frites dipping in the bearnaise! We shared the creme brulee and some ice cream for desert topped it all off with cappuccinos.

We stopped for lunch on a Monday about a half hour after they opened. We didn’t have a reservation since we had stopped on a whim, but were able to take a seat at the bar. The food was great, as was the ambiance and service. The gnocchi was not the typical fluffy Italian style but a crisp, light French take with seasonal veggies, the mixed greens with goat cheese salad had the best goat cheese I think we’ve ever tasted, a couple croque madames, truffle fries, and ordered a “Paris between the wars” cocktail after seeing the bartender make several of them. He was patient and humored our questions about the drink as well as being knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Great service, great lunch. Went next door to the bakery to pick up treats for the drive home.

party of 8, engagement party, all was amazing. Highly recommend making room for dessert, too. many places not worth the hype, this is worth the hype
Be the first to ReplyBastille Day Celebration was a great time to come
A fun day. Lunch in the restaurant. We ordered the heirloom tomato salad, the french onion soup and split the steak and fries main. The food cane out piping hot. The flavors were awesome. We then wandered over to the annual Bastille Day celebration under the tent and enjoyed Bouchon's world famous macaroons in festive colors. Great day!
Be the first to ReplyAMAZING....
We had an incredible dinner at Bouchon and are still dreaming about it. I will say for all the lovely entrance and gilded facade, the seating is EXTREMELY tight and the restaurant is very loud. I was squeezed into the banquette and was elbow to elbow with the tables on either side of us. It felt like we were eating family style and it only got comfortable once we all met each other and began chatting. O.k...now to the most AMAZING food experience. The wine list leans French but we had a wonderful Chardonnay to pair with our meal. Bread and butter, top notch. The French Onion soup and escargot were the very BEST we have ever had. Many times these dishes are over salted yet these had just enough to season. The chicken dish we shared had a delicious sauce and presentation. They were happy to split the entree onto two plates. The creme brûlée was also amazing. Dining at a restaurant like this is a once in a lifetime experience for many. It was worth it!!

The food wasn't good. They seatings were so tight, we were less than arm distance to the next table. They had to pull out the table to seat us. There was no AC, and there were flies at our table!
