Brasserie Zédel London Reviews from The Last Year
Dinner and cocktails
We ate dinner here last night. The brasserie is an impressive room with amazing decor in the theme of the 1930s. I had rabbit rillets to start which were nice enough. For main I had the fish cake (special of the day) which was really tasty, with a side of dauphinois and spinach. Everything was nice other than the spinach which was a little salty and cold(ish). After dinner we had a cocktail in the American bar which was nice and again very much in the theme of 1930/40s.
Omar was great
We used a voucher given to us at Christmas. Omar was our waiter. He was a delightful guy. Goes the extra mile to ensure you have a good meal. The food was excellent. Large fillet of bream cooked to perfection. We were so full we asked to take our dessert home. This was packed up beautifully for us and we enjoyed it the next day.
Do yourself a favour - dine at a pub instead!
Oh, where to begin with this tragic comedy of errors? Having frequented this establishment for years, I naively thought booking a family lunch here would be a safe bet. Silly me! I booked online and innocently inquired if I could bring a cake for my mother's 80th. Only upon arrival did I learn that I needed to sign a waiver. Sure, fine, my bad for not being a psychic. The person I spoke to assured me they would do something special for the occasion. Spoiler alert: they didn’t. This individual vanished into thin air, never to be seen again. Maybe he’s moonlighting as a magician? Our party arrived, and it took a mere 15 minutes for someone to grace us with their presence and ask if we wanted drinks. Another 30 minutes and our food finally appeared. Let’s talk about this culinary masterpiece: the salad. It was literally an entire leaf, brown edges and all. Yum. As lunch wound down, we weren’t even offered dessert. A random woman swooped in, cleared our plates, and vanished. The grand finale? A bill totaling £177 for four mains and house wine. Totally worth it, if you enjoy burning money. When I complained about the cake fiasco, I spoke to three different people. They assured me the matter would be "investigated." Yeah, right. Long story short, with the West End teeming with dining options, do yourself a favor: go anywhere else. Heck, go to a pub. The decor here is not nearly enough to compensate for the sense of being thoroughly fleeced.
Disappointing. Mediocre.
Had read positive reviews of this restaurant on various websites. Was really looking forward to visiting this allegedly french style Brasserie. Sadly we were disappointed with the canteen like environment and very mediocre but expensive food. No atmosphere at all, just reminiscent of a school dinner hall, noisy and frenetic. Tables stacked closely together so you could easily hear your neighbours’ conversations. Food was poor. Partner’s steak dish was okayish but had a huge piece of gristle in the middle. I had the Alsatian choucroute which was salty, the meat (pork) very gristly and huge bits of unrendered fat in it. Frankfurter was nice enough. 2 boiled potatoes as finishing touches. Very underwhelming because I know how delicious this dish can be if made well. The waitress was friendly and helpful but didn’t make up for this expensive and bland meal. Such a shame.
Perfect birthday lunch
Delicious lunch served by a most helpful and delightful waiter who produced a beautiful decorated platter as a lovely birthday surprise
Food underwhelming
Decor is fine but the food is very average. The waitress didn't advise that some of the cocktails on the menu weren't available until I tried to order one. The service charge is 15% & they also add a cover charge on top of this. I wouldn't go again.
Exceptional food
A really enjoyable meal at Zedel Loved the quiche starter. The salmon fish cake with perfectly cooked egg on top was exceptional. Possibly the best fish cake I have ever had. Friend liked his rabbit starter and pork chop. Friendly staff and buzzy atmosphere. I found the musical group too loud for a restaurant. One piano would have been better. But a good central London experience
Great French Brasserie
Great for lunch or dinner. Sat outside on this occasion. Retains an authentic french brasserie feel and prices are very reasonable for location, quality of food and service. Will return.
Very Nice Setting & Lovely Food !
Lovely evening spent here with friends just before the theatre, the steak hache was very nice as was the Lemon Meringue, we thought the food was very reasonably priced but maybe the drinks a little expensive. It was my friends fathers 85th & without asking a plate with a very nice macaroon wishing him a lovely birthday came out which was such a lovely gesture.
Pleasant, but expensive for what it is.
Lunch here with two friends. The room is pleasant, a pastiche of the real Parisian brasseries, without their natural character. We each had a starter and main course, only two of us drank wine. The bill came to £198.00 including the 15% service charge. Service was good, almost too quick. I would say the place is overpriced for what it offers. Two post-bill 175ml glasses of house wine were charged at £20.13. I have absolutely no connection with Cote, but would suggest you would definitely have a far better overall "French dining" experience there.
Very poor
We booked a table for 8, well in advance. On arrival we were given a table right by the kitchen entrance and next to the waiters station, it was incredibly noisy and asked if we could change. We were told no!! I get being given a not great table if you were a walk in, but not as we had booked so far ahead. The service was very poor, our waitress couldn’t be more disinterested if she tried, we were constantly asking for things, sometimes 2 or 3 times. The food was distinctly average too. It was a friend’s birthday, what turned up was a plate with a single macaron and a battery operated night light, which the waitress just plonked down!!! Our bill arrived with the pre added service charge, we removed the service charge and just paid the bill!! Quite clearly the waitress was unhappy and complained to the restaurant manager, but no one came over to ask us why!!! Needless to say, we will not be back!!
Excellent Service and very good food!
We had a bad experience with this restaurant in December 2022 when we visited for a pre show family meal. We were invited back by Nela late in 2023 as the restaurant had new management and they were responding to complaints...... quire a task and well done for under taking it!! We have returned and had a superb meal. Ramona our server was excellent right amount of attentiveness and very informative. We took her suggestions for our meal ( the specials of Asparagus starter and lobster main........ ) she was spot on and the dessert was very good too all accompanied by an excellent wine selected by Nela. Service was prompt and we were in time to attend the musical we were going to see. We will be returning with the family and on our own. Thank you Nela .
Disappointment
Arrived at restaurant at19.30 but even this early first 2 choices from the menu unavailable. Ended up with a pork chop with a few potatoes for £30. The chop was almost inedible and was so tough that the knife provided was bent out of shape. Service was slow and rude. Very disappointing and will warn people off from visiting. Venue is fantastic
Mums Birthday Treat ~ Zedel did not disappoint
We were warmly greeted by the staff in the upstairs cafe/bar. We found the restaurant downstairs which is very big. It had a lovely atmosphere with the waiting staff chatting to customers. We were shown to our table and given tap water and bread whilst we decided. We didn’t go for a starter as the delicious bread made up for that. Myself and my sister had the steak and pomme frites, mum had the soufflé. All washed down with some rather lovely wine. We had time to kill before our show so we sat in the upstairs cafe/bar and had cocktails. Would return in a heartbeat and would also recommend. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would recommend it
Great location for West end Theatre
Great location and very helpful friendly staff. Only had coffee and tea. Had a problem with the mint tea and the manager addressed the issue immediately. Great place to visit while waiting for a theatre show.
Surprise
A real surprise in an alley, a perfect atmosphere, the food was excellent and the service perfect. I recommend
Beautiful Parisian restaurant
We dined here before seeing Moulin Rouge in the street opposite, in-keeping with the Parisian theme! The restaurant is very beautiful and oppulent! The food arrived quickly, but it was tasty. The waiters were very attentive, although we were not provided with plates for our bread, which was a bit strange! Overall it was a lovely experience in an impressive setting.
Disappointing TAPAS (Teensy-weensy dishes)
Once a year, I go to Brasserie Zedel and the food is always delicious. The setting is superb (although the restaurant really needs to soundproof walls and ceiling as it is impossible to hear each other and the waiters). The service is always perfect. Last year, I noticed that the choucroute was disappointing compared to the previous year. This year (2024), the dishes were not generous at all. We were 4 and we had grilled filet of sea bream, steak tartare served with fries and salad, coq au vin and chopped steak American. The portion of fries was very tiny. The pieces of meat and fish were rather good but so small. Only the salad was excellent! As we were all feeling hungry we all ordered an Apple tart Tatin with vanilla ice cream and this was of a good portion AND tasty. Without any wine, the bill for 4 people was very steep and we all think it was too expensive for the quantity served.
Excellent food and ambience with a few niggles
I was recommended this place a while ago but hadn't found an excuse to come until today. We sat downstairs in the brasserie which was a revelation in terms of the sheer volume of the dining space and bar. I can only imagine what this place would have been like in years gone by. We had main courses and dessert. My wife and I had steak hache with a choice of side dishes and my niece had coq au vin. The food was really nice quality, no complaints there. The service was very good too with nice attention to detail such a hot plates and clearing the crumbs after our main course. The live jazz was very enjoyable and not too loud, at least from where we were sitting and in fact the ambience was conducive to conversation. I thought the wine was rather expensive for the quality, the cover charge is a bit old fashioned and the 90 minute table reservation was pushing it a bit - we managed just about as we had to wait a while to order and get our main course - but we weren't hurried out of the door. It was packed pretty much even on a Monday so definitely book.
Very impressive, very loud and busy.
We had a good meal, but it wasn’t fantastic, large impressive room, but it was too busy, very loud. Perhaps I’m being too harsh, but would’ve preferred somewhere more intimate.

Thank you for the question, if a seller is working on answering your bid, you cannot cancel it until their time is up and the bid is released back to you. The full amount of funds then go back into your AT account. Typically a seller has 48-72 hours to complete the bid.
