Bun's Restaurant Delaware Reviews from The Last Year
Was told no seats available for 2.
We walked to the back to perhaps stand at the bar, where the patio is located. There were numerous seats on the patio and bar open. Awful service!!! Sat down anyway. Drinks were awful as well as the food.
Had to be one of the worst dining experiences I have had in
Had to be one of the worst dining experiences I have had in a while. Not one part of visit from getting seated, the service, the drinks and food, or paying the bill contained anything remotely positive to include here.
Went 5/03/2024 and got a SLIVER of cheesecake for $7.
Crazy. Friend got a burger with bourbon sauce and it was wayyyy too sweet. She had never been to Buns, I hadn't been in 20+ years, neither of us will ever go back!!!
Called to place online order and the young Lady answered
Called to place online order and the young Lady answered the phone "hello" like it was a personal phone. Waited on hold 8 minutes to place an order but drove there before anyone picked up so tried to place my order when I got there. Waited another 10 minutes For someone to take my order. Didn't write it down or take my name. Went to pick it up and the young lady that previously answered the phone played on her cell phone and after 10 minutes I had to ask if my order was ready. Finally got my order (ribs). Unfortunately they were absolutely horrible. The sauce used was basically watered down ketchup. That place has so much potential for the location and patio but we will not be back.
I'll start this by saying I am not a picky person, I'm very
I'll start this by saying I am not a picky person, I'm very laid back and have worked as a server in many restaurants. It is absolutely unlike me to have to write a review of this nature, as I'm always very understanding when things may not be up to par. When we were first seated it was evident our waitress was not in her right mind when she spilled beer in our rolls. There was a puddle of beer in the bottom of the roll basket. She did not offer to bring us a new basket of rolls. However, she did apologize for covering our rolls in beer. We did not receive the drinks we ordered for at least 20 minutes after our waitress first came to the table. We also ordered an appetizer that came out another 30 minutes later. Finally we put our food order in. This is when the real problems started.... When the food was served to the table I politely asked the waitress for ketchup for my chicken fingers. However, I waited until my food was ice cold before we had to walk up to the bar to ask for ketchup. In addition to the other 2 drinks we ordered, as we had been sitting there with empty glasses for quite a long time. We expressed to our waitress that we desired to speak to a manager. We felt it was appropriate for a comp on our bill or at the very least an acknowledgment of the lackluster service we encountered. I barely touched anything on my plate. We had lost our appetite at this point, and my boyfriend's mother was getting overheated and wanted to sit in the car. She left her wheelchair at home so I was walking her out to the car as my boyfriend was going to the front desk to pay. The waitress made it evident to us that she would not be coming back to the table any time soon to collect our payment. The manager chased us outside accusing us of attempting to skip out on the bill. We had every intention of paying, regardless of the terrible service, and we did pay our bill. Although once confronted by the owner Joe, the manager and bartender, we felt as though we were being attacked and discriminated against. After almost 2 hours of an experience devoid of any semblance of service, I say with confidence.... This establishment does not care about their customers. Our waitress was very clearly inebriated, and her management team did not seem to care that she was a liability to their business. There was nothing more than we wanted than to pay our bill and leave to never return.
Terrible service
Terrible service. We waited nearly 30 min while they seated 3 other parties around us and served them. We didn’t even get our drink order placed.
We should have walked out in the first 5 minutes.
.. we stood at the entrance/hostess stand while several workers walked around. The manager, finally, said he would be right back. A few more minutes go by, he comes back, and escorts us to our table on the patio. The bar had two guests, and restaurant/patio were not busy on a Saturday afternoon. We sat down and a waitress, Kimberly, came by a few minutes later to take our drink order. I inquired about what IPA beers they had on draft. Kimberly could not provide the draft list. Even though the bar was only a few feet away and she could have gone to check. About 10 minutes later, two

This place is a complete joke, kitchen is slow, service
This place is a complete joke, kitchen is slow, service sucks - straight bubble gum shop!
We visited yesterday with family members.
As others have recently commented this place is not what it used to be. A zero star would be in order. The place was nearly empty mid afternoon. It took a few minutes for them to get a table ready to seat us? Waitress clearly didn't have a clue as she didn't have anything to take our orders and was distressed that we asked to see menu's. Once we ordered our bar drinks she needed to ask multiple times what we wanted clearly she didn't understand a simple Vodka/Tonic request. She came back 3 times to ask us and confirm what we ordered to drink. Our drinks took over and hour to get. No water served. The bartender was also not educated on how to make drinks. The Moscow mule was in copper mug but had 1 shot of vodka and 1 shot of Ginger beer that's it. When asked if they forgot to fill the mug with the other ingredients we were told that the bartender said this is how a Moscow Mule is made. The food was horrible. It was 90 minutes to get our dinners. Many items not available. Salmon was so fishy it was inedible. Turkey was cold, fish and chips were out of a box. Chicken kabobs were the best thing ordered by our group. Barbeque pork chops special was OK. Please do not go to Bun's! Clearly no management, no training and they don't care if you are happy or not. Sad as this was always a favorite historically.
One Star because can't give a zero.
Service absolutely sucked, we were completely ignored by several waitresses, even though the place was practically empty. We ended up leaving and got a snarky comment from one of the waitresses who ignored us. Find another place, there are many good restaurants just around the corner.
Great experience, service and food
We have read that Buns was getting some poor reviews, AFTER we made a reservation for our family… However, we still wanted to give this classic old place a chance. We were greeted so kindly at the front door, and our waitress was full of great personality and very on top of servicing our table. The food was very good, and we were not disappointed one bit. The food came out at a decent time, it was hot and all dishes were served perfectly. The ravioli was great. The chicken parm was great. The fish and chips were great. Our son’s burger and fries were great. Drinks were great as well.
Delightful lunch on a VERY cold Sunday afternoon
Waitress was great and offered varied suggestions to us as first time visitors. Tomato soup was delicious. Loaf of bread and both of our entrees were great. Highly recommend!
Buns review
Our family went to Buns Christmas Eve. We had not been there for a few years. So, we gave it a try since it was local. The service was good but the food was “fair” at best. Buns was empty in the main seating area. I had turkey and dressing. I think it was pre-packaged turkey and then put on the grill. It was dry and lacked flavor. The dressing was “mushy” and again, lacked flavor. The tomato and basil soup was good. The dinner salad was plain. Overall, we felt that the quality was not as good a Cracker Barrel or a Bob Evans but it had a higher price tag. Therefore, my expectations were higher and they were not met. The decor is decent and it has the potential to be a nice place, But, I have little incentive to go back.
Great experience. Thanks to Chef Brian and the staff@
Met the executive chef Brian earlier in the day and asked if Buns could accommodate a family party of 10, some who are vegan. He said he would make it happen, and when we arrived at our reserved time, there was a table set up especially for us, and Brian had already prepared a delicious vegan take on pasta bolognese. The hostess Jackie greeted us and ushered us to our table, and our server Michelle was very attentive and provided great suggestions. It was a wonderful experience, and the food was great. Brian was present in both the back and front of the house, and he expressed his pride and respect in taking the helm of this historic Delaware landmark. Highly recommend!!!
Not the wonderful restaurant it use to be.
I wanted to like the dining experience. Beautiful building with high ceilings and I love the history of buns but other than that , there was nothing else positive.Meals did not come out together, pricey for lunch, waitress was usually no where to be seen, a huge mix up with checks and payment. Please Buns get it together and be the great restaurant you use to be.
BUNS BURNED THE ROLLS
Buns was a great family restaurant known for Large portions and tasty meals. It seems now to be a mere shadow of the former store. It was sold and the new ownership seems to have gone to the bar route and forgotten the roots of the restaurant. It is not the staff fault they work hard but were woefully understaffed. The owners did not order enough food products to serve the demand. Most of all menu items except bar food was sold out. Additionally, Buns no longer has a bakery. That is sinful for a restaurant once known for the bakery and homemade Pies. Again, the staff and female manager tried as best they could while being hamstrung by higher management decisions to manage and provide for our table. I have no problem with staff.
Too many new places to waste time and $ here. Worst I’ve ever seen
Had the fish and chips. Mrs Paul would kill herself. Thawed out fish cubes that were nothing short of awful. The waitress warned us the kitchen was backed up. This place has had it!
Buns has definitely slipped
We have enjoyed Buns over the years for casual dining. Our waitress tried valiantly on her second day, but was not supported by the food that she had to bring from the kitchen. Fried pickles appetizer were the highlight of the meal. The Reuben sandwich was very soggy, making it very unappetizing.
Bad Experience!
The restaurant was understaffed. The food was not Good. We got there at 11:30 left going on 2:00. Nothing tasted or looked good. Was a bad experience! I won’t be back!!

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
