New croquette flavor, must try!
My first visit this afternoon and had a delicious meal! We ordered the special of the day which were Croquettes de Lechon! Amazing taste with a hint of lime. They definitely need to add them to the main menu stat 🤩 Also had a the refreshing Guava Lemonade not too sweet which was great! For my main dish I ordered the Tamal Cubano which was delicious. Looking forward to going back again to try some other sandwiches and desserts.

Please do not follow Eater recommendation for Caja Caliente.
A place that should is rated in the the op 40 places to eat in Miami and Top 15 in Coral Gables is wrong. I've had better Mexican Food at 7/11.
The concept seemed like a good idea taco stand with many different Cuban Tacos (soft shell tacos), croquetta, empanadas with tasty drinks.
We went there and everything was terrible.
Service awful. The drinks were terrible. Tinto de Verrano tasted like chlorine wine. Put Fanta in it not Flat Sprite. The only drink they didn't mess up was Jarrito because that came in a bottle.
The ambience is terrible. Interesection of Ponce de Leon not a great location to sit down and enjoy drinks. Nothing great about the location or chairs where you sat.
The tacos. The amazing tacos that everyone mentioned in the review. The shell was cold. I should have sent it back. Felt like the shell was in the freezer. The sauce inside was good with the meat (we tried the octopus taco) seemed good but I couldn't get over a cold shell that took 30 minutes o come out when there was 4 tables at the restaurant. An overpriced garbage taco.
The goat cheese croquettes. Avoid they are not good. Plantain Balls. I think they were missing the Picadillo.
The empaanads were the only redeeming food item from this place. We did the chicken curry empanadas.
Also for all this food being so bad it is expensive. 8 bucks for a cold soft shell taco. Pass.
I hope Caja Caliente puts more money into their food, service and experience and stop paying off critics who write for Eater or Thrillist.
Good food but the service was really bad
The food was very good, but it took forever to get the appetizers we ordered. One of the appetizers came before and the second one came after we had finished eating. The main meal took close to 45 minutes before we got it. The servers were too busy talking among themselves and not attending the guests. It was a mission to get a server to come to our table to let us know what was the delay to our food and once they came they gave us an attitude. We wanted to order dessert but with the experience we just went thru, we decided to skip. Our stay at the restaurant was close to 2 hours and it was only a few people there (the restaurant was not full).
Be the first to ReplyA fine spot for lunch in Coral Gables
Debuted in 2016, when blogger Monica Leon convinced mother Lupita to take their homemade Empanada business the Food Truck route, it was after three years serving Wynwood and the Design District that Caja Caliente found a home in Coral Gables, the menu since expanding to embrace a range of Cuban-inspired items both familiar and novel.
Located at 808 Ponce De Leon Boulevard, next to ever-popular Eating House, it is amidst cozy confines or under umbrellas outside that guests are invited to enjoy bold cooking, the Cod Fish Croquetas impeccably creamy in the style of French Brandade while bite-size balls of Plantains with Ground Beef are aromatic yet sweet and deeply satisfying.
Perhaps best known for Cuban Tacos, a fusion-favorite with fillings ranging from Swine to Octopi, it is atop fresh Tortillas that Steak, Shrimp and Fried Alligator were piled, all well-complimented by Pico and Sauce while the Cuban Tamale is a sharable specialty featuring fresh Corn in the Masa beneath a lot of crispy Pork, Cheese and Avocado.
Offering a handful of Empanadas, both savory and sweet, Dessert had intended to taste one filled with Guava, but oddly finding both it and Rice Pudding 86’d at 11:30am lunch instead concluded with a crispy Disco Sandwich filled with Fruit Preserves and Cream Cheese that took 15-minutes to make, but proved worth the wait.
Good tasty food but expensive
I ordered food from there, it arrived on time, the food tastes very good, but to me, the prices are high compared to the food portions. My wife had a tuna taco and I ordered shrimp taco, and they were small.

If you're in the mood for some unpretentious, mixed-Latin, home-style dishes, this is the place to go.
We ordered to-go recently (during COVID lock-down) and were not disappointed, now all we need to do is go back for more. Only problem is that what we had last time was so good we're going to want to order it again.
Since it was our first time, we (group of 5) over ordered, figuring we could all share a bit of everything. For sure you need to try out some of the empanadas (curry chicken was a fave), flying saucer sandwich didn't disappoint, minuta sandwich was well seasoned and still crispy, pastelon (de platano) - a traditionally Puerto Rican dish - was very generous and easily fed more than 1, arroz con pollo - delish!, tamal en cazuela - delish!, vaca frita - delish! There really wasn't anything that wasn't delicious and nobody walked away without liking (and wanting more of) multiple items.
Yummy- Cuban food!
Popped in to have brunch on Sunday and what a treat! Gables location is upbeat and tropical, food is delicious and the staff is nice and attentive. Totally enjoyed the food- going back again.

Saw restaurant next door on Trip Advisor. They had a private party but recommended Cada Caliente - super glad they did! Food was excellent. Lulu was r waitress and she was very fun and very knowledgeable. I have celiacs and she did a great job guiding me to choices I could have. When I asked for gluten-free advice she said: “do u have celiacs”? It always makes me trust a restaurant more when the staff actually knows to ask that question. Again the food was great - and if u get a chance to eat there I hope u get LuLu!

This place is beyond great!!! Everything we’ve tried so far is spectacular!! The Tamales are delicious! The Croquetas de Jaiva are so good, you can eat the entire serving by yourself. The place is small, but the attention to detail is top notch! Our server, Yankiel , was superb!! Hats off to the owner and the chef for such an amazing job! We will most DEFINITELY be back!!
Be the first to ReplyBest aligator tacos EVER
We visited the place after reading a few reviews on the food truck they have. But this small place is awesome. Thalia is a super host and she made awesome suggestions to us.
Alligator tacos were incredible and sandwiches are incredibly tasty...
For sure coming back
Awesome food and service!
This little spot is on fire! I had heard of the original location in Wynwood but hadn't had a chance to stop in and try. This years late night taco event for SOBE Food and Wine shed more light on them cause they were definitely a fave that night!
Stopped into the Gables spot and absolutely loved it! I had the croqueticas which were awesome and Pan con Pollo. Pan con Pollo was the best pan con pollo everrrrrrrr! I had about two bites left of it when I found out you can add avocado to it or an egg... #mindblown! Gotta go back for that! Flan and Casquitos de guayaba are just like grandmas; can't rave enough about this place!
