Canary Club New York Reviews from The Last Year
Friendly staff, tasty food, and excellent jazz on no cover
Friendly staff, tasty food, and excellent jazz on no cover Wednesday. Savored the Hurricanes with umbrellas, carrot tempura, brussels sprouts, and wood-fired cauliflower. A couple of notes if you go: a 7 pm reservation for the music downstairs means entry at 7 (though the host kindly seated us earlier and we were able to get a happy hour cocktail). The club space is far more intimate than appears in the photos. They don't kick you out after the first set like some other clubs. They should put a phone number and FAQs with info like this on their website to help folks plan their evening.

Great live music spot downstairs! But too loud to have a conversation there. The drinks were great: huge selection. The gibson was fantastic. Service was quick and awesome!
Canary Club is a great place for jazz.
Kind of a happy medium between a basement jazz club like Smalls and an upscale place like Smoke. Dim lights, cool vibe. I was there in October 2023. The food was good, service was friendly. You can't make a reservation for one person but if you walk in, they'll seat you and not make you feel like a second class citizen if you're alone. Oddly though, they had a reservation for two and needed my table and moved me to another table for one, but they did it graciously. The bartender charged my iPhone for me which was much appreciated. A solid NYC jazz experience and highly recommended. Tip: When you're outside, check out the hardware on the doors of the building...they're expanding.

Visited this place last night for a concert and man was it such a fun time! The venue is very small and intimate, which was a nice departure from the larger venues I frequent. The bartender that night was incredibly warm and provided great recommendations (as someone who loves scotch, their take on a scotch Old Fashioned was delicious). The chicken and fries were well-seasoned, with a large enough portion to share with the table as well.
Excellent.
Party of 9 with a set menu. Wines and cocktails. Excellent service. We were a bit loud and rowdy but it was a good time all around.

We had a lovely birthday brunch for my husband here on a Saturday. Great little jazz trio playing, cute place, nice atmosphere, good food & drink. The coffee was not great.
Came here on a Sunday night with my friends.
There was live jazz music for the entire time we were there. The environment was very date-esc with romantic dim lighting, but not so ideal if you wanted to have a lot of conversation - more for listening to the music! The staff were super friendly and helpful with recommendations too. The cocktails were delicious. All of my friends were impressed by the special cocktails that were on the menu and they tasted great. The food came in small portions and were flavorful but didn't stand out to me too much. I would definitely recommend the chicken! The scallop was cooked well but fell apart from the bacon so we ended up eating them separately. The pork belly wrap had a unique flavor and taste - a bit too sour and fatty for my personal liking, but worth a try! Waffle fries are a must for the table!

The upstairs area is more of a bar (with food as well) and downstairs is a jazz club area. The food was really good and I loved the homemade ketchup. The oysters were melt in your mouth good. I wish the brussel sprouts had sauce or something on them, they felt really dry. I had a NA drink here and I loved it, wasn't too sugary as they usually are.
Canary Club probably would not have even been on my radar
Canary Club probably would not have even been on my radar had it not been steps from my NYC AirBnB. But I was intrigued by the features on its black exterior and the fact that they have a Happy Hour and live jazz. So I decided to come one night and experience both! Had cocktails upstairs by the bar. I think they prefer reservations, but we came during the week and didn't need one. The French 75 was delicious. All the cocktails are New Orleans-inspired. Staff upstairs was also lovely and accommodating! We were able to stay through to the live jazz show downstairs. They have maybe 10 tables near the tiny stage and then a few larger booths in the hallway leading up to the bar and stage area. Everything is decorated impeccably. Love the style. The jazz was great. Really talented musicians. Felt like a very NY experience being down there. I also tried the Phony Negroni, which was a little too bitter for my liking, but it's a bottled zero proof cocktail, so that's not the restaurant's fault. Also had the burrata app, which was absolutely delicious. My husband and I ate every bite. Such a good experience here. Really made the trip memorable, and I will def recommend this place to my friends in NYC or who are visiting, like us!
One of my favorite Jazz clubs in NYC hands down.
I had so much fun, I forgot to take pictures! I went on a Friday night date. The atmosphere at this jazz club is ideal for intimacy because the live music is not overbearing loud, the lights are dimmed, and the room is small, which helps you connect more with the musicians and the person(s) sharing that experience with you. I tried a few of their cocktails and. I loved them. They have a ton of whiskey options if you're into that. They also sell other drinks. I also had the oysters and wow! 10/10. The oysters were NOT raw (which I loved) and were cooked in garlic butter. The service is also phenomenal, the place is intimate enough for your server to always be attentive to everyone enjoying the show.

Great drinks
Fun vibe. Stopped for drinks and opted to sit at the bar. Enjoyed watching the bartender. Drinks were quite good. We opted for mixed drinks. Only concern is that one of us ordered a drink that was a lemon "martini " type, and when bartender was mixing, we noted that raw egg white was placed in the shaker. Which could pose a problem. Although no one in our party had any food allergies, if someone was allergic to eggs and did not see or know this ingredient was in the drink recipe, this could be a big problem. (Just a note of caution from a medical professional). We would love to return to this place the next time we're in the area.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
