Sumptuous 🥘 Food
The food was absolutely superb for the price and we had no regrets for going there and will certainly be coming here again. I would recommend this for anyone who wished to have some excellent Indian food. The starters were awesome with the aloo basket chaat being amazing and the paneer labadaar and daal makhni are to die for. The Gulaab jamun was well balanced on taste. Nothing bad to say in the whole it was an excellent experience.
Be the first to ReplyExciting menu and delicious food.
Lively and quirky restaurant with absolutely delicious, unusual food with plenty of choice for vegetarian and vegans as well as many regional meat and fish dishes, We didn't order the lobster but it looked mouth-wateringly good!. A great place for a celebration. The food is obviously freshly cooked so expect a bit of a wait-it's well worth it as the dishes are beautifully presented and the spicing is spot on. The owner is friendly and has a great sense of humour and the service was good.
Be the first to ReplyAverage, wouldn’t rush back.
The staff were not overly friendly. No one came to check how our meal was until the end. My partner found their meal too spicy, yoghurt was given when asked, but we were made to feel as though we were an inconvenience. Food was flavoursome, although portions were small - for instance, a korma comes with only 4 pieces of chicken (yet cost £17 without rice). Average, wouldn’t rush back.

We booked to eat here and from the moment we arrived we enjoyed the experience. We were greeted warmly by a gentleman who I believe was the owner. You can tell he carries himself and his business with such pride and professionalism. The onion bhaji’s were presented beautifully and tasted amazing. All the food was lovely and good portion sizes throughout. The sorbet for dessert was beautiful also. Good menu choice & wine selection. If you’re wanting you standard cheap & cheerful Indian takeaway then maybe this isn’t the place for you with prices representing michelin star prices, however if you’re wanting something a bit more special or your celebrating an occasion then this place is perfect.

The food was delicious and we are coming back. Some of the dishes were really innovative. But I would like to try some of the traditional dishes like chicken tandoori as I am sure they would have a special take on them.
Be the first to ReplyIncredibly overpriced
Food was of decent quality but very poor value for money. Chicken curries were £17 each for four pieces of chicken without rice.

We booked for post rugby match food. It was a great menu, not the vast 10 page menu found in other restaurants which is sometimes off putting. The food was tasty and different . Poppadoms were a little strange, greasy small ones which weren't the best. But that is the only criticism.

I went to Chatora with a friend I had not seen for some years. It was a great place to catch up, with excellent food, with wonderful flavours far beyond those of most Indian restaurants, and attentive staff. And, although the owner told us when we arrived that he would need the table, in the end he was very flexible and we stayed for three hours.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent authentic but refined Indian food
Went here with family including two small children and a couple. Attentive service from the start. Excellent and unusual cocktails. The menu has classics but with a more refined twist or style. The quality of ingredients seemed good and everything tasted fresh and authentic. Will be returning.

Wanted to go here for a while. I was very disappointed. Different dishes, but not very interesting. My partner thought the Nan bread undercooked Also very expensive. Better Indian restaurant in Richmond.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing, unmissable food.
Very friendly welcome and service. Really interesting and imaginative menu - this is something very different from your run-of-the-mill High Street Indian restaurant. Everything is fresh and flavoursome, yet so much more subtle than you could possibly imagine. If only I lived around the corner...
Be the first to ReplyFirst class authentic Indian cuisine
Chatora is a rarity - a restaurant serving not Anglo-Indian food but Indian cuisine.
The welcome is warm, the ambiance warm and inviting. Refreshingly the menu is much shorter than most Indian restaurants. Rather than offering the familiar, this menu offers a wide range of complementary vegetarian and carnivorous dishes. Some spicy, some not. The ingredients are first class and are cooked and presented with thought and care.
Highly recommended are the lamb chop and cauliflower/broccoli starters. All the meat was melt in the mouth tender, the sauces well balanced and portions generous.
The eating staff were all pleasant and friendly. Speed of service was just right. The owner was very proud to discuss the menu and Indian cuisine - and justifiably proud of the extensive and exciting wine list.
Worth traveling to Richmond for😁
Great service and unique dishes
Really interesting take on traditional Indian food. Portion sizes are good size, you are certainly to leave feeling full. The starters are unique, never had rabbit at an Indian restaurant, but it was really good. Could do with less salt in the curry’s.
Be the first to ReplyGood Indian Food … BU
We visited as a family to celebrate my daughter in law’s birthday 11 March.
Being Indian we are understandably expecting a high stand of food and service from a Michelin starred restaurant…
My DIL, though English, is very keen on Indian food, and this was to be a much looked forward treat.
Whilst the food was well cooked, the portions were small and the lamb curry was over salted.. My issue is with the service … We had to wait half an hour for the starters. Service was very poor, after clearing the first course we waited in anticipation for the second. That did not happen, 10 minutes after the dishes were cleared we were asked if we were ready for the main course! This took another 15-20 minutes, despite reminders… we arrived at 8pm and left nearer 10.30pm. There with two children, who were really hungry by the time any food came. When the bill came the petit fours weren’t chocolate one but looked like rice crispies blobs. Though we notice other table were served chocolate ones, I guess by the time we finished due to the slow service, you may have run out of them!
I had spoken to Jamshed in the morning to check the booking was in order and to give us a nice table, we were seated in the lower ground floor area and it was dingy.. candles were lit after a prompt..
Altogether a disappointing experience, perhaps one will stick to take away only in future. I would certainly only recommend it with caution due to the slow service ..
Fantastic Indian food
This was a fantastic Indian meal. We booked easily online and were greeted warmly. Service was excellent and very efficient. Menu was extensive and not typically British Indian. Food quality was superb, with excellent flavours.
I’d come here again, definitely and will thank our neighbour who recommended it profusely.
Really Disappointing!!
Went to Chatora for my boyfriends birthday. Had been once before and really enjoyed so we were both looking forward to it.
When we got there we were seated just inside the door. It was freezing!!! The door kept opening for customers/delivery men. Both of us ended up having to wear out coats throughout the meal.
The staff were not very friendly but the worst of it all was at 8pm, just as we finished our mains, (and had only been there an hour). We were asked to leave (not just once, but twice) because they wanted the table back. We booked three weeks before our visit so were not expecting to be told to leave after only an hour.
Really disappointing visit over all. The food was average but far from Michelen Star.
TERRIBLE SERVICE, UNPLEASANT, LESS THAN AVERAGE FOOD, EXTORTIONATE
A hospitality business is expected to be friendly and nice. We recently visited this restaurant and to be honest are disappointed to give this place even 1 star. Not sure, how have they got a mention in the Michelin guide - what a joke!
It was a friend's birthday. My wife and I got a cake for the friend as a surprise. When we were done with cutting the cake, we asked the restaurant if they could help us with some empty takeaway containers so we could re-distribute the left-over cake amongst ourselves. To our surprise, the restaurant staff and manager were rude in their reply and said that takeaway containers were only given if we were taking away food from the restaurant. This felt extremely silly, as we have been to a lot many restaurants in the past and never have we ever been denied an empty takeaway container If needed. Even a chicken shop in London would gladly give an empty container if asked. We even suggested that we were happy to pay for the containers, but the reply was rude. The restaurant was informed about the cake being brought from outside.
To add to everything, they have incorrect allergy information on their menu which has been complained about to the food standards agency. We asked for food that was listed as Gluten free on their menu and later found out when the food arrived that it contained Gluten.
We could barely just eat the starters as all the drama happened before the mains came out. The food (chicken starters) which was served arrived half cooked. Quality of food is nothing great. Prices are too high for less than average food. Save your money and find a better restaurant in London. The place is congested, small and doesn’t have even have a decent ambience.
AVOID AT ALL COST!!
Great Experience
Had a very enjoyable time at Chatora as 2 couples. Service was great and food was an original take on traditional Indian menu. The place itself was busy and had a good atmosphere to it. We were not shoe horned in to our table and the owner came over and had a nice chat with us too. Well worth a visit.

We had a fabulous meal here last night! The food was very special. The menu has so much variety and everything we had was so delicious. The service was very good and all of the staff were incredibly professional and there was a huge attention to detail. We will definitely be returning!
Be the first to ReplyMICHELIN GUIDE, REALLY???
Unfriendly service for sure. Food, absolutely nothing decent. Jumbo prawns not fresh and overcooked. Chicken tikka poor. I only like the roti.
