Chez Bruce London Reviews from The Last Year
Fabulous dinner (the lobster raviolo is to die for!)
Visited Chez Bruce as part of a no-corkage BYO wine deal from my wine merchant. Took the allowed bottle each - a white 2001 CdP, and a 1998 Saint-Julien - and settled in to the attractive, light and airy room for the £85 per head three course dinner. I opted for the starter of Lobster Raviolo in a lobster bisque, with brown shrimps, and samphire (£7.50 supplement), which was out of this world! A huge raviolo with a generous portion of beautifully cooked lobster, and a rich bisque. The slightly elderly CdP was a great accompaniment. My wife had gin-cured mackerel with smoked eel croquette, pickled rhubarb, horseradish and tarragon, which was also pronounced superb. For mains, we both had the Chateaubriand with hand cut chips, and bearnaise sauce (£10 supplement). So tender and delicious and the perfect accompanient to the Saint-Julien. Two clean plates were delivered back to the kitchen! We then opted to share a Grande Assiette de Fromage (£7.50 supplement) to accompany the last of the red wine, and the 10 cheese morsels were well chosen, and excellent. We shared a dessert of hazelnut financier with vanilla ice cream and poached pear, and it was sublime - accompanied with the last of the white CdP that had (probably over-) matured to resemble the slightly sweet elements of a dessert wine. Our dining experience was enhanced by the delightful Greta, who served us with a smile, and great personality. It was nice to hear about her culinary journey from Lake Garda to London. She is a real asset to the restaurant. We had a thoroughly lovely experience, and would not hesitate to recommend Chez Bruce. We had lunch at their sister restaurant, La Trompette in Chiswick, last summer, and both are restaurants are definitely worth seeking out.
Don't go if you are lactose intolerant
I went for a friends birthday. I am lactose intolerant and have migraine from anything citrus. I phoned up a week before and explained this, and I received a return phone call during which I explained I had been a few times before and had a very sparse meal at the same price as my companions, and I wanted to have the benefits of the Michelin rating. It was, at best a terse conversation, during which I was told I was being fussy!! I was being challenged one step too far here, as its no fun living with food intolerances. I was told chef was too busy tomato special sauces but as it was a close friend I still went after being told they would do their best to accommodate me. The staff there were lovely, and I was told I would be given a special menu. This consisted of 2 options for starters, and one for a main course, roast pork, where all the items were included. I did ask about substitution of 'cream' on the other two options but the replies were vague when I asked if an item would just be left off (as on the last 2 occasions) or substituted, I struggled to have an answer. I went with the aubergine, which was I guess 8/10 and the pork, which I have to say was fine but not worth a Michelin star, more a pub lunch, and roast potatoes which looked amazing but unimpressive to eat. Out of all the options on the desert menu, not one was available, but I was told the chef had done a 'special' rhubarb dish for me, I was quite excited... However, boiled rhubarb sprinkled with a nuts etc? ... no, not Michelin . Almost all sauces/mashes/ custards can be made with plant milk, I do it all the time and this was lazy, particularly as they knew in advance and we had an early booking. The extras were delicious, the service friendly and impeccable, but £120.00 for this plus 2/3 glasses of wine- not going back
Perfection
Today was my wifes birthday and we've just had a perfect lunch. The ham hock soup exceptional. The stuffed pigs trotter unctuous and finally the lady cake was out of this world. Please if you're in London go. We've been going for 40yrs and it's still the greatest restaurant in London
Deliciousness in London
Some of the highest quality food and service in London. A simply wonderful experience; well-paced and a variety on the menu without spreading itself too thin. Highly recommended for a special occasion.
Good but not brilliant
We’ve been regulars at this restaurant for years. We felt that its usual standard is slipping a bit. The staff at chez Bruce used to 5 star, now they are quite as attentive and aware of customer needs. I only recognised one member of staff, so perhaps there have been a lot of new recruits recently. The food was good, but not as amazing as it once was, I had a sea bream main course which was quite average… I hope this was a one off glitch and that they get back to being one of the best restaurants that they were not too long ago
Definitely not as good as the rating suggests
Such rude service, Manager was awful, sub standard experience for Michelin dining service and ambience felt like a pub.
Amazing dining experience.
Book the private dining room for a Christmas celebration. What an amazing experience. Amy handled our booking and her attention to detail was seamless. The food and service are outstanding simply the BEST. Thank you Victor for the wine recommendations. We will for sure be back again. Please ensure you pass on our appreciation to the waiter who looked after us he is a credit to the restaurant and extremely professional. The best dining experience we all had. Thank you for a special day we will all remember.
Regular, (about twice a year) visits. Somewhere special
A very pleasant restaurant. We tend to use for special celebrations, convenient for the station if you don't want to drive.
One of the best!!
This restaurant continues to excel itself. A warm welcome and choice of table was a good start. Well mixed gin martinis, tasty parmesan biscuits and fabulous focaccia to nibble while perusing the menus. Very extensive wine list to suit any palate. Starters - lobster raviolo was superb, stuffed full of lobster, with a very tasty lobster bisque. Mains - succulent venison loin and glazed sausage bursting with flavour as was the flaking Cornish hake with shellfish cassoulet. Dessert - deliciously hot chocolate pudding rounded off an evening of tasting delights. Excellent, professional service through out the evening too. Just two observations. The complimentary truffles have dwindled over time from a small bag to just two nowadays. And, the wooden chairs, without any padding, were really uncomfortable after a while - maybe I'll bring my own cushion next time! Otherwise a superb dining experience!
Superb cuisine a must visit.
An absolutely superb experience and gastronomic feast. Four of us went for lunch and we shared a number of starters and main courses. Every dish was amazing. I didn’t share my dessert which was also brilliant. Staff very good as well. Definitely worth a visit and good value.

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
