Chi Spacca Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year

There is a reason why Chi Spacca has been named one of the country's best restaurants by @gq @esquire @bonappetitmag and @timeoutla The service, ambiance, and quality of meats are unmatched The short ribs were delicious and flavorful. My favorite was definitely the Bistecca Fiorentina, a 50oz dry-aged bone-in porterhouse cooked to perfection. It literally melted in your mouth Definitely check them out for amazing Italian food when you're in Los Angeles
Another fantastic night in the books at Chi Spacca.
I wasn't planning to update my previous review, but this meal stood out in such sharp relief service-wise (versus the disappointment of Osteria Mozza) that I had to pay my compliments to the staff. The food was exemplary as ever, but there was an extended lull between appetizers and mains, which our server salvaged by offering us a surprise middle course (the Mare Al Cartoccio) - delightful seafood en papillote. They also waived corkage on one of our bottles by way of apology for a delay that didn't bother us in the slightest. There was never a false note to the meal, nor did we feel rushed in any way during a busy Saturday service. On the way out we mentioned that we were planning on going to Osteria M that same weekend, and we were gently warned that we wouldn't enjoy the experience as much as we had enjoyed CS. Prophetic!
This place is amazing.
Easily top 3, if not number one steakhouse in LA. Incredible food and wine selection. The staff are super knowledgeable, professional and kind. I also loved the interior design and intimate setting.
Stupid Expensive, Fatty Greasy Food, No Bar I get it that
Stupid Expensive, Fatty Greasy Food, No Bar I get it that the chef is a big deal and I should be impressed if not honored to eat here. I'm sorry, but that wasn't my experience. This is a meat based restaurant, like a gourmet steak restaurant on steroids. The Good Things: Excellent Service. Good quality meat dishes with a wide variety of dishes. The Bad Things. Most items were greasy and fatty. By way of example, let's take the beef short ribs. Typically, this is a high fat cut with lots of connective tissue, so they should be braised, because long slow moist cooking dissolves the fat, leaving a flavorful tender dish and a gravy. Not here. They are marinaded leaving all the fat and connective tissue, and grilled for a few minutes and the resulting dish was fatty and tough. For $50. Stupid Expensive. A plate of onion rings costs $18. No ketchup. Bring your own. No Bar. Yep, a steak restaurant without whiskey. They serve canned beer. I found the menu pretentious, way over-priced, and simply not conducive to an enjoyable meal. I was just shocked at the prices too much to enjoy the meal. If you want good meat, hit up Mortons or The Palm. Same prime dry aged beef. But if you want to impress your date with an stupid expensive greasy dinner, but not necessarily an enjoyable experience, then this place is for you.
food was delicious but extremely heavy down to the roasted
food was delicious but extremely heavy down to the roasted chicken I still somehow felt like I ate a pizza pie. I also felt very overwhelmed and intimidated to order wine so ended up not drinking all together which has never happened to me before. Overall it was an experience just not sure if Ill be going back any time soon .
Dad's birthday dinner and have dined at both Osteria Mozza
Dad's birthday dinner and have dined at both Osteria Mozza and Pizzeria Mozza multiple times each. We love the food everytime and were expecting nothing less. The ambiance is your typical dark, elegant, and quaint Italian dining experience with the twist of cured meats being displayed. They also have a little market of ingredients they use on your right when you walk in. Server, was great and when food slowed he was very attentive to check in constantly throughout the night. What we ordered (aka the best part): Puglia Burrata x3- we get this at osteria mozza everytime and ask for extra oil and salt on the side so we drench both bread and cheese. So much better than the focaccia as the bread is crispy, yet pillowy in the center, and slight hint of garlic that they rub on the bread. Veal Tongue- surprisingly tender and salsa on top added nice acidity Octopus- Perfectly charred, the beans and sauce added beautiful acid and was addicting that I kept eating all the beans on the bottom. Beef and Bone Marrow Pie- MUST GET! This is a very rich dish especially with the creamy mashed potatoes on the side, but it is so worth it. I didn't know Italians could make one of the best pie crusts I have ever had. Pepper Steak- it was tender, but just nothing compared to the pie Branzino- comes with a lot of bones and very fishy, sent it back immediately Onion Rings- BEST EVER! Each onion ring was picture perfect golden brown and heavily coated in batter which is the best part. You also get an addicting lemon aioli to dip this masterpiece. Broccolini- Perfectly acidic and also slightly spicy, helped to balance out all the richness The desserts were all horrible: Whole Apple Pie, Olive Oil Chocolate, and cheesecake ALL BAD! Except the banana ice cream which we got as a compliment from the server. Overall, must get octopus, puglia burrata, beef and bone marrow pie, and onion rings. Skip dessert and be sure to get something from the market like the hat which is what I got :)
This place is definitely an experience.
Come hungry and make sure you are not in any hurry. Some of the meals on the menu take quite a long time to prepare. But sitting at the counter right next to the grill, I can tell you that those people on the grill Take their job very seriously. The food looks absolutely amazing. I want to go back just to get the tomahawk pork chop or one of the steaks after watching them be cooked in front of me. Service was exceptional. Ambience is chill. Great for a date night. Not a super quiet restaurant at least not where we were at the counter, but will definitely be back from more of all of it. I had the hamburger which is only available certain nights and certain months. But it is the most delicious Smashburger I've ever eaten.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN OIL BATH, THIS IS IT!!! Oh my
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN OIL BATH, THIS IS IT!!! Oh my goodness...been here a few time in the past years and oh wow the QUALITY HAS BEEN DROPPING- The Food and the Service! Everything is drenched in oil- No flavor No specialty no more. Spending few hundred dollars and getting below average taste is a SHAME! Well...This definitely will be our last visit as every dish was pretty much the same- OILY!!! yuck!!! From the simple bread to Octopus dish to Korean short ribs :( Waited over an hour for our dishes! Bread was served in 15 mins cause oil had to drench in. UNBELIEVABLY POOR! WILL NOT BE COMING BACK HERE! Chapter for this restaurant for us is CLOSED! We dont shy away on spending for good food/ restaurants and oh boy this was way under it all. Hope this gives an insight to all those who are looking into this specific joint for a bite. we have exhausted our chance with it. ZERO STAR - I ll spend my penny elsewhere.
Chi Spacca is a restaurant gem located in Los Angeles.
The restaurant has a gentle vibe but is quite busy on a Friday night. We were greeted with the best seats in the house, the counter seats where you can see the hefty steaks being grilled. We started with the Anchovy & Butter toast, which is a must! The anchovy paired well with the butter and toast as it added a salty liking. Then came the cheesy Focaccia di Recco which was charred to perfection and very "air pockety." I loved how there was a crunch to every bite! For our main courses we ordered the 50oz Bistecca Fiorentina and the Beef & Bone Marrow Pot Pie. Our medium rare steak was grilled to perfection and tasted marvelous. I like how they grill their steaks as it provides the char taste that all steaks deserve. The Beef and Bone Marrow Pot Pie was soft (with a crunch on the outside), buttery, and filled with fatty bone marrow and beef. It is such a hefty pie. This dish is a must try. The actual bone (filled with bone marrow) is centered in the pie which adds the "cherry on top." Chi Spacca is a must try restaurant in LA!
Chi Spacca is an absolute gem.
They have of my favorite burgers that are served at the counter top Mondays only! Must try. Chi Spacca is known for its incredible selection of meats, and they definitely deliver on flavor. From the succulent ribeye steak to the mouthwatering tomahawk chop, Korean short ribs, every bite is a carnivore's dream come true. The meats are cooked to perfection, juicy and tender, and the seasoning is on point. But it's not just about the meats at Chi Spacca. They also offer a variety of delicious sides and appetizers. And don't even get me started on their homemade bread, it's heavenly! For dessert you have to order the butterscotch pudding, one of the best desserts ever! The service at Chi Spacca is top-notch. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and always ready to provide recommendations or answer any questions you may have.
Went here for our an anniversary dinner.
The experience was top notch from beginning to start. We were kindly greeted by the host who congratulated us. And quickly seated at a great table for two. The lighting was perfectly dim but not too dark which is a pet peeve. My knowledge of wine is very limited so our server helped guide us in a great direction (basically just asked him how he might pair our order with wine). He was very knowledgeable about all of the wine options but wasn't really trying upsell us at all. He was simply passionate about good food and wine. The steak came out a perfect medium rare but the sleeper hit was the onion dip that came with the wonderful grilled veggies. The grilled octopus was also definitely unique in freshness and cook. The meal is pricey but you get what you pay for here. Definitely will be back for a special occasion.
Sadly, Chi Spacca has slipped a lot in the last few months.
My wife and I have been eating there for years and like the chicken entree with either the caesar salad, the octopus or the lamb sausage (used to be on the menu). We went a couple months ago and the chicken seemed anorexic. It was scrawny without much meat. When we went again this weekend we tried branzino and found it be okay but we've had much better elsewhere. For several years now the Caesar Salad comes with a very heavy dose of anchovies and is quite creamy. Not this weekend. They scrimped on the anchovies and the dressing wasn't up to snuff. We are swearing off the place for a while. Too bad, we live close and have enjoyed many meals there over the years.
Took my wife here for our 5 year anniversary.
We ordered the 50oz Florentine, Focaccia, Octopus, and Carsar Salad. I had no idea what to expect from this place, and I honestly only chose to go here because I saw a few videos about Florentine steaks. Every single item we ordered exceeded our expectations and more. Starting with the Focaccia. I was reluctant to order this because I knew how massive the steak was going to be. Told myself I would only eat a few bites and ended up eating the whole thing after my wife at her two pieces. It was perfectly salted, had great texture, and wasn't too filling even with all the cheese. The Caesar salad was the best I ever had. It was simple, and the flavor from the anchovies were great. If that fishy smell bothers you, I wouldn't recommend ordering it. But it's a must have for me when I come back. The Octopus was interesting. It came grilled on a bed of Pinto beans with this green sauce and finely diced celery. I didn't think much looking at it, but the flavor was incredible. I'm not much of a bean guy, but we finished this dish and scrapped the bottom of that bowl clean. The octopus was perfectly charred and seasoned, the beans with that green sauce and celary were savory with the perfect amount of acidity to compliment it. As for the steak... that 50oz Florentine was the most incredible steak I have eaten in my life. It put Mastro's, Ruth Chris', and Morton's to shame for me. It wasn't the most marbled piece of meat I've seen, but it was so tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. It couldn't be more different than Japanese A5 wagyu, but somehow I like it just as much, if not more. The little bed of olive oil it was one with that flaky salt and pepper was amazing. Not to overpowering and highlights the flavor of that steak perfectly. I don't think I'm ever going to another steak house
Took a buddy to Chi spacca pronounced ki spacca last night
Took a buddy to Chi spacca pronounced ki spacca last night and it was so much more than a dinner. We went for the 36 ounce bone in New York but once we saw it's size and the options on the menu, we decided to go a different direction and save that for a bigger group visit. We sat at the bar which is in front of the open kitchen where you can see the masterful chefs preparing the array of items prepared perfectly for their guests. We started off with the salted dates. Two types of dates that were salted and roasted and delicious. I ate a couple and saved the rest to have with our meat. Next was the Veal tongue. It was served cold and was comparable to a refined mortadella. This was a great taste before my meal. The Ceasars salad was well sauced, the croutons were small and crunchy, and we got the anchovies on the side as the are very potent. Next we had porcini rubbed short rib which was the best thing I ate all night. We followed that up with a flat iron wagyu which was cooked to perfection, the creamiest mash potatoes, and charred brocolini. We had the burnt top cheesecake for desert. Can't wait to come with a bigger party so we can try more items on the menu including the steak, cheese foccacia bread, and bone marrow pot pie.
