Fantastic hole in the wall restaurant serving delicious traditional cuisine
Fantastic hole in the wall restaurant serving delicious traditional cuisine. This is truly a mom and pop shop ran but literal mom and pop. The space is small but quaint and cute. They donโt have outdoor seating but they offer take out. The food was delicious. Definitely one of our best Peruvian experiences this far in OC. It was only two of us for lunch but weโre both excited to bring family here so we can order a bunch of stuff to try.
Highly recommend the Papa Rellena and the Tallarines Verdes con Pollo. The Tellena was seasoned very well. The chicken in the Tallarines was perfectly cooked and seasoned.
Service was also great. The gentleman who helped us was really nice. He didnโt have a lot of seated guests but he was busy with a lot of Togo orders.
Excellent intro to Peruvian food
Because Orange County offers so many options for Peruvian food, there are actually two tiers of Peruvian restaurants. The first has the "well-known" places that offer just traditional dishes, sometimes modified for Americans, are generally overpriced and offer some ambiance and occasionally live music. Most Peruvians avoid these places. The second tier holds the very authentic dishes, strictly mom-and-pop small places that thrive on take-out and offer just a few tables, but also highly value their customers. Chicama is one of the very best example of the second category. My Peruvian wife and I just discovered Chicama and will now go out of our way each time we are in the area. I had some of the best, incredibly fresh, fried fish (battered with flour, not icky bread crumbs) and my wife had the traditional fish ceviche. The owner and his wife do a wonderful job, so please bring your business to these smaller places that try so hard and succeed at a very reasonable price.

Definitely have to try to stop in here whenever you have a free moment all of their options are amazing although the green sauce that can go on the bread that they provide is a little bit spicy also be sure to take home a dozen of their specialty dolce de leche cookies
