It feels a bit redundant to write a review on a place that is so obviously a knockout, but if I can offer one piece of advice: trust your server to order for the table. There's usually one "meh" selection on the menu -not here. ALL BANGERS!! The food, the service, the ambience are so so good. No notes. And don't skip dessert!
Be the first to ReplyThis place was absolutely fantastic.
The food was beyond fresh cooked right there before you. The ambient is amazing and incredibly cool. This is by far a place you must put on your list when visiting Charleston the freshest fish in Charleston cooked absolutely amazingly, and you will definitely enjoy their drinks.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, great ambiance and spectacular food.
Chubby fish opens at 5PM, however there it typically a line forming around 4:30PM, for good reason. They do not take reservations. My boyfriend and I visited from out of town, and we were anticipating this restaurant and this well surpassed our expectations. Food: they have a variety of oysters you can choose from. The oysters were very fresh but a bit on the saltier side. But still good. Tuna crudo was also good but a bit salty as well. The blue crab pasta and bone marrow were my favorite. Super rich and flavorful. Plates are meant to be shared and the portions are on the smaller side. 10/10 would recommend! Come here if you are visiting Charleston.

Seafood is so fresh. James Beard finalist chef. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyWell worth the wait.
Food is absolutely the best in Charleston. The chef, himself, came over and helped me pick entree of choice. Very good service.

Came here on a Thursday evening at 8:30PM, 10min wait place was still bustling. Very friendly waitstaff. All of the food was perfectly cooked with some creative offerings. Flounder (3.5/5) - seemed like the most popular dish, fish was cooked perfectly, only 3.5 because of personal taste - didn't enjoy the brown butter sauce Grilled oysters (4/5) - Creative curry based sauce and corn flakes Wahoo ceviche (3/5) - Bottom hard to cut, flavor Thai inspo

This is my all time favorite restaurant in Charleston and I will proudly queue 45 minutes in the cold to get a good reservation. This is a pescatarians heaven with so many amazing dishes to pick from. And why pick one? We always order 5-7 small plates and raw dishes to get a sampling and are never disappointed. Service is always great and friendly, with the dining room a little snug, but still comfortable. Chefs table is super fun and they interact with you quite a bit too! Crudo, ceviche, the tempura are the three must have plates. Don't pass up a chance to eat here.
Be the first to ReplyBest restaurant I've ever eatin at in my entire life.
I'm 34. Thr food was DIVINE. everything I ate was incredible. I wish I lived above this spot. I will be visiting Charleston JUST to eat here. The caviar, lamb, wagyu, pasta and tuna were all delicious. Thank you ! The service was impeccable.

LOVE this place! 100% locally owned/operated (ie, no restaurant group masquerading as a local spot). The quirky, mismatched plates and glasses, the simple, cool lay out...just fantastic. Staff is cool and loved their product. Make no mistake, the food is the best part. It's terrific! When you want to get off King and get local, go to Chubby Fish but they don't take reservations so get their early and in person to get on the waitlist.

The best seafood, ever! The seasonings on each dish leaves you wondering, how did they do it, it's fantastic and unique. The whole fish, baked clams, spicy shrimp, root vegetables were all fantastic. All with great service
Be the first to ReplyOMG! Is all I can can say! Best meal of my life.
My husband does not stand in line for food-ever. (he didn't-I did) but he did say after the meal that he would stand in line for this anytime. Celery salad, cauliflower, caviar sammich, curry. All beyond amazing! The best service - more appropriately referred to as "experience advisors"-our advisor Mandy was phenomenal. Love, love

Now I understand why everyone was standing in line before this place opened. All of the food we tried was delicious. We had the best seat in the house, right in front of the chefs. What an experience! I am a very picky seafood person and never thought I would be eating oysters but let me just say you must try the grilled oysters with crab fat. Really you actually should try just about everything they make..
Be the first to ReplyStill the absolute BEST.
Went twice within a week and not sorry. Both times we were in line about 430 and got seated immediately, but if you were here by 5, I'm pretty sure you will still get to eat that night. All local SC oysters which were fabulous. Today, my favorite bite was the poached tilefish, but I will always love the smoked fish curry. Please, if you haven't been, just make a plan to come.

Definitely a must-taste restaurant for anyone looking for a seafood-focused meal. Firstly, Chubby Fish does not take reservations, so you will want to get there when they open to put your name in. If it's the weekend, expect to wait a couple of hours for a table- just have a nearby place in mind to grab drinks while you wait. There is no standing room in the restaurant, so don't expect to have drinks there while you wait unless you want to dodge waiters all night. The seafood is spectacular - caviar sandwiches for every person is a must. The romesco sauce on the lamb is also some of the best I've tried. I have eaten here at least 5 times and will continue eating here whenever I can. A little pricey but worth it.
Be the first to ReplyAMAZING!!! I'm so in love with this place!! We were a party
AMAZING!!! I'm so in love with this place!! We were a party of 2 and sat at the bar where we were afforded the luxury of seeing the crew in action!!! Lucky us!! We started with two of each of the various oysters they had and were both delighted with the variation of flavors. My favorite was the select from NS, but they all were great!! We each ordered a small plate to share! The Cauliflower was recommended by a friend, so that's what I ordered and wasn't disappointed. The cauliflower appears to be roasted with a Parmesan crust. Very delish, and more than enough to share for a party of 4 (we had leftovers). The sauce with the cauliflower has just a little kick to it, but not too bad (I'm a wimp to spicy food and handled it with no problem ). We also ordered the celery salad, that was full of flavor!! This too is enough to share. For the main course, we went for the Swordfish Schnitzel with caviar butter and the Snowy Grouper!! Both dishes were delicious and beautifully displayed. The Swordfish came with a side of potato purรฉe that was perfection!! The caviar butter on top of the swordfish was absolutely a fabulous combination!!! The fish was cooked to perfection with a lightly flavored coating. The grouper was the winner for me, but I LOVE a good grouper!! The green garlic sauce combined with the turnip vegetable mixture was AMAZINGLY delicious!! The grouper was cooked to perfection and the green garlic sauce with trout roe was a nice added flavor to the dish!! The wait was about an hour and the place was packed, so be patient, but it's worth the wait. The guys in the kitchen were great about making recommendations and giving us a little knowledge about the various dishes and oysters. The only negative was our server didn't seem to check on us much, but the guys behind the counter took great care of us. Still a 5 in my books and I plan to be back soon!!
Be the first to ReplyA unique dining experience.
Unbelievably good food, excellent friendly service. Enough said!!
Be the first to ReplyTrendy spot for the foodie in you.
They don't take reservations, so generally you need to start lining up 30 mins before 5pm to get that first seating. I went there for a friend's birthday and we went family style on the items. Each item is a bit tapas, some small and some little bigger. Their menu is always changing so these recommendations might be swapped out. We all like the chili garlic rice, smoked wahoo curry, and sheepshead tempura. I liked the blue fin crudo and cauliflower cacio pepe but not everyone did. Probably a great date spot, but is on the pricier side for portion size. They also serve raw oysters too. Cheers!
Be the first to ReplyWe came here for my friend's birthday.
We read online that they don't take reservations and that you better get there before they open. We got in-line at 4:30 and there were 5 people already ahead of us. The line is no joke. Once inside, the atmosphere is super laid back but cute. The staff was all very friendly and knowledgeable. We were told to order 6-7 plates for 4 people. Definitely not a cheap meal but so delicious! If I were to go back (which I'm sure I will!), I would order the chili garlic shrimp, smoked wahoo curry, and the sheepshead tempura! They were all amazing! I definitely recommend checking this place out.

Don't miss! We had a great time this is not your typical fish shop. Food was fabulous and unique. We asked the server what to get and were not disappointed. This was the special that month. Chefs kiss
Be the first to ReplyBe prepared to wait.
This place is small and busy . We waited for 1 1/2 hours only because it's close by our VRBO and we just arrived from the airport. Total time became 2 hours since at first, they wanted to seat us facing a wall right next to the bathroom in high chairs. ย We ended up waiting another 30 min for better table. Getting drinks was interesting. My husband ordered beer and they just gave him the can - waitress didn't bother asking whether he needed a glass. She just placed it on the table and off she went. ย Food was great but my order came first and was told that my husband's will be coming right up. Well, his food did not come until 20 minutes later and we had to ask when is it going to be ready - I was almost done eating! And to top it all, waitress seemed miffed and had the gall to say that they will serve it once it's ready. Really??? I would have given this place a higher score because I love the food but customer service was subpar. Will not come back here again.
Be the first to ReplyThis was our last supper on our Charleston trip.
And it did not disappoint! We waited around 40 minutes since they do not take reservations. The food was worth the wait, the ginger scallion sauce on the whole fish was delightful, we also had the bone marrow with shrimp. Not sure how the shrimp and marrow compliments each other but they were both good on their own. This is a must try in Charleston!
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is as good as it gets.
Inventive, fresh and full of flavor. We had a hard time choosing between so many great sounding dishes and were not disappointed by any of them (but the desserts. They are High Tide and A-Ok but not worthy of precious tummy space). I would highly recommend you go very hungry and order a lot. You won't regret it.The one star retraction is due to the lack of hospitality shown upon entry. Good Lord, were they rude to the whole line. Dear Ladies at the Front, If people choose your restaurant, over ALL other restaurants in Charleston be grateful. If people are willing to wait outside, for 30 minutes, be gracious. Be as excited as we were when you opened those doors. Don't deflate eager customers ย by acting like you are doing ย a favor by seating them. You are not the reason anyone is waiting in that line and your hasty treatment takes away from the hard work of the line cooks and chefs, who are much more gracious, engaging and considerate.
Be the first to ReplyWe dined here on the Saturday of Charleston Food and Wine
We dined here on the Saturday of Charleston Food and Wine with a party of 6.They do not take reservations for parties of any size, so we decided to go early to get here prior to open and good thing we did! We got there at 4:30 pm (doors opened at 5pm) and right after our arrival the line was down the sidewalk. ย We were able to get in and sit with our party of 6 at the community table. Our server's name was Hailey and she absolutely made our experience. ย I informed her of my gluten allergy and she took it from there .The best advice I would give anyone is to trust the servers ... I told her a few items that sounded "good" to us , but really looked to her to make recommendations. She picked the perfect number of plates and everything from start to finish was outstanding. Each dish (to me) was best described as "umami" On the Raw bar we shared the crudo and tile fish ceviche - both outstanding, delicate, fresh and perfectly flavored without "overwhelming" the fish From the smaller plates we had the charred cabbage, celery salad and lamb ribs. All were so unique in there own way (and nothing I could prepare at home). We then shared the wahoo curry, garlic jalapeรฑo shrimp and grouper. The curry was our favorite (so much flavor and very unique ... the crunch of the peanuts added a nice texture), followed by the shrimp and then the grouperWe had the BEST wine - the sparkling rose and a Malbec blend (their wine selection is outstanding) We also shared one of each desert - everyone enjoyed the not fried chicken and waffles (they ordered 3rds!!). This was the best experience I have had dining in Charleston to date. Hats off to the entire staff.
Be the first to ReplyBased on multiple recommendations, we showed up around 4:45
Based on multiple recommendations, we showed up around 4:45 to wait in line for opening. We were seated by 5:15. Again, we understand places being under staffed, but our dinner took over 2 hours as we waited extended times to be greeted, get drinks, food, etc. That's why few people can get in there! And we did not appreciate that every dish (only 4 entrees) all came out at different times. Good thing we were sharing. But the food... really good flavor. Really good. But where was the fish?! There were a few bites cut up in each of our dishes, but hardly any protein. Between all our dishes, we don't think we got one full serving of fish. But if you like rice, this is the place for you. They just need to change the name of the restaurant.
