A great experience. 6 course tasing menu with wine. Some divine flavours in the Spring Le Marché tasting menu, excellent service, and superb paired wine selection. The glazed pork loin and the spring lemon are standouts. Pascal, Francesca, and the rest of the team work seamlessly. The Sommelier is a god.

Not a Michelin experience by any means. When we first arrived we were ignored by the maître d. We were eventually acknowledged and sat down only to wait 30 minutes to be offered a drink. One of our party asked for slimline tonic to be told by the maître d they didn’t have any, the food was full fat and then proceeded to shrug. We asked if they served Diet Coke which they did so unsure how much sense that made. The food was underwhelming and the main course incredibly chewy (their signature dish - the duck). The best part about our meal was the bread. However, what lets this place down even more than the food is the service. The maître d was just pompous and so condescending. Overall so very disappointing.

The worse Michelin Star restaurant I’ve been too. Lovely area, beautiful interior but extremely disappointing food. Marmite Fois Gras for starter, terrible taste, then the main was stew, full of fat and a large bone. Desert was actually nice, mousse with ice cream. To be avoided!

This restaurant has only one Michelin star, it should be 2. We eat at a lot of 1 or 2 star places in London but this meal today was the best ever. We all had the same starter, a Faux Fois Gras made from nuts etc. Exquisite, totally veg but tasted like the real thing. 2 had fish and 2 had cassoulet, traditional dishes but with that something etc. The desserts were also masterpieces. The knowledgeable head waiter explained the dishes very well and helped us choose some modestly priced wine - she didn't try to make us spend lots more! This lovely intimate restaurant in a historic area of London, just near Smithfield, is off the main tourist trail. The award winning chef has been there 25 years. We ate a la carte (the lunch set menu doesn't start until next week) but for 4 of us and 2 bottles of wine it was less than the River Cafe set spring lunch. This is our first visit since before the pandemic and it is as good as ever, didn't take photos because they can't do it justice. Smart casual, hubby wore jeans and a shirt. If you like really good food that you couldn't possibly make your self then try it.

This used to be a good restaurant before the dreaded Michelin star. Now it’s a somber temple to “fine dining” but missing the essential element of “fine”. We had the 5 course menu, which was a dispiriting display of showing off but with no real substance. Turning langoustines into jelly might sound sexy but the resulting wobbly mess (stuffed with gritty cockles) was a salty and mostly tasteless waste of effort. The mushroom course was a teaspoon of puréed morel which was uninspiring. The partridge breast was ok, but coming in an inexplicable sauce and no veg. I will still hungry after three courses. The sweet courses were plain weird. My friends had the cheesy eclair which one of them refused to eat. I had some cheesy flower with berries in a pastry base which really doesn’t work in any universe. The final course was an over sweet sorbet / chocolate moose, which contained the only genuinely interesting thing all night - a spoon of fennel sorbet. There were three of us and with a couple of glasses of wine this whole experience cost just short of £400. I found the waiting staff arch and unfriendly - they seem to think they are church wardens rather than waiters. When I told our waiter I had coeliac disease she complained that they needed to be “told in advance”. My friend asked them to call a taxi when we were done (it was pouring outside) and was told that they didn’t do that type of thing. Finally, I really cannot bear restaurants that instruct their waiters to interrupt guests’ discussions when food arrives so they can portentously announce what we are about to eat. We know what it is because we looked at the menu and made the choice in the first place. That’s just plain irritating.

I went here with my daughter for the 4 course tasting menu in April, value wise it was good. The food was mixed with both of us enjoying some courses and not others. But one course the macaroon was absolutely amazing it was worth it just for that hence the 4 stars. I understand that’s down to personal taste. We booked for 9pm and the service was prompt with not much time between courses to the extent it felt rushed. I would say try the place as the menu changes and we might of just been unlucky on the night.

Absolutely fabulous experience. Food was great with the foie gras being the standout course by a million miles. Haven’t had better anywhere else. Sommelier and host were welcoming and warm with some good knowledge to share. Decided, against my better judgement, for a Yquem from my birth year and could not be happier I did. Depth and complexity that makes you realise that no matter how long you wait. You will scarcely find a sweet wine to match their magnificence Great dinner and gladly return.

Wonderful warm welcome. We had the four course tasting meal and it was wonderful. Extensive wine list too. We had a lovely time.

I found this place while researching London. It’s one Michelin star and certainly deserves it. When we arrived, we were promptly greeted. The place was quiet for our 6:45 pm reservation, but filled up within an hour. We reserved the four course meal for 85.00 EURO each. It was terrific. The food is tasty and well presented. The tulip with quinoa is unusual and presented with thought and care. It’s neat. The other dishes we flavorful and subtle. The desert was flavorful, especially the cheese filled macaroon. The service is exceptional. The waiters and head waitress (a red haired woman who was awesome) are top notch! Overall bill: About 330.00 EURO which includes four glasses of champagne. Try it today!

Formal, but friendly, this is definitely my idea of a top level restaurant. Food is varied, interesting and extremely well prepared; wine list has something for (almost) everyone at sensible markups.

The 6 course taster menu was a birthday gift for my 60th. I was really looking forward to it. Sadly neither of us really enjoyed any of the courses. I think some of the taste combinations were to shock rather than satisfy. Eg a very sweet and strongly flavoured gingerbread macaroon filled with th extremely salty and strong Roquefort cheese. Both of which I would eat separately but not in combination. The onion soup was lovely and I expected to like my partners mushrooms in fondue - two of my favourite combinations - but I couldn’t eat it. Shredded beef in an edible tulip not only seemed pretentious, we also found it too heavily flavoured with star anise as to be pleasant. When I scraped off a very bitter sorbet palette cleanser to get to the nice lemon flavour beneath, the waiter asked if I was full or didn’t like it. When I said I didn’t like it he pulled a face at me. Very sneery! Even my English breakfast tea at the end I had to leave as it was like dishwater. Sadly sadly disappointed as it was an expensive and thoughtful gift.

In 2022 my girlfriend and I enjoyed accumulating 9 stars of restaurant visits. This year we’re aiming for 12 and the 3rd of the year was Club Gascon. The dining room itself is very nice. Well presented and laid out. Overall the food was very good. I won’t go into details of each course, but I would say it was clearly Michelin level food. What let the experience down was the service. Firstly, I found the sommelier a little condescending and difficult to understand. I am no expert in wine (that’s why they have sommeliers!) but I’m also no idiot. I’ve never had this difficulty elsewhere. Secondly, the wait staff weren’t attentive. I had to pour our water all night and request another bottle when it was finished (meaning they did not ask if I wanted a second bottle). Finally, the timing between courses was also too long. There was just no rhythm to the service. I’ve not experienced this in any other Michelin starred Resto. These may all sound whiny and 1st world problems (which they are), but when you’re shelling out this kind of money AND competitors offer far better service, it is expected.

There was something that I just didn’t appreciate about the food. Some courses were nice but others I felt were odd choices or combinations or just too experimental that they were just not nice! Too much ‘mousse’ or jelly in many of the courses. One course was called ‘sweet bread’ and I had no idea what it was. Having asked the waiter (see more below), he just said again ‘it’s sweet bread, it’s called sweet bread’. Clearly I didn’t know what sweet bread was and he made no effort to explain. I didn’t eat this course. Service was average - poor at best and got noticeably worse, the busier it got. Very rude older gentleman waiter who, when we asked to order some drinks, having said ‘can we order a drink please’ said to us, ‘not from me,no’! An odd man serving our drinks who was not proactive at all in suggesting or selling drinks. Underwhelmed! I wouldn’t go back here sadly and I’m unsure if it deserves its Michelin star.

We had the Christmas Taster Menu and Wine accompaniment. Good staff. Great location and ambiance. Some of the courses we nice. However some were not. Extremely rare stuffed Quail was not pleasant. Maybe its down to our taste but for a bill of £750 it did not live up to the billing.

The menu is so interesting, I had forgotten how sophisticated food could be after COVID. The foies gras flan was the most interesting treatment, the creamy richness of the liver was paired perfectly with thin slices of peeled cranberries. The sorbet was served on a block of Himalayan salt which added the perfect counterpoint to the sweet dessert. The cassoulet had all the rich complex flavors of the dish in a tiny artistic package. The wine pairings were outstanding, but the service puts this place at the top. Francesca was just so lovely and introduced us to the unbelievably talented and gracious chef Pascal Aussignac. Club Gascon made celebrating our 20th anniversary unforgettable in the best way, they are awesome!

I attended a dinner at this restaurant organised by a wine and food society that I belong to. We were a party of 12. The whole menu was a little ‘too clever’ for me. An amuse bouche that consisted of squid ink and white chocolate, and a starter of raw eggs and vermicelli. The only choice was for the main course which was skate or duck, I was only one of two who had ordered the skate and it was quite good. The duck was tough and most diners left it. The dessert was equally too clever. All a little too pretentious and £125 a head I won’t be going back!

We enjoyed the experience overall, but the food was a bit disappointing given the price. For me, the dishes lacked the wow factor. Service was really good.

Such an awful place, in 30 years in London I have never had such a terrible restaurant experience. We only manage 3 of the 5 courses as we cancelled the others, it took 2 hours to deliver those 3 courses, 2 of which were inedible. We ordered drinks which were so poor we returned them, which was disappointing as we had to wait an hour for those drinks to arrive. In the second hour they were able to manage just one more beverage, service was so slow. I am not sure I have ever spent so much to leave a restaurant so hungry and unfulfilled. I was one of 12 diners and we all left feeling the same. Even the layout is questionable, the bathroom is in the private dining area and on leaving the bathroom I had to point out the disposable gloves that had been dropped on the floor, only for the waiter to look irritated. Poor service, poor food, awful experience.
Be the first to ReplyLovely tasting menu experience
The restaurant has a really elegant feel to it and whilst not full when we visited it had a nice atmosphere. We chose the tasting menu and each course was of the highest quality with fresh ingredients and a thoroughly enjoyable experience and would visit again.

Living in France, I'm spoilt for choice. But I'm not sure if I would be able to easily find such sublime flavours as I was served last night, with Club Gascon's tasting menu. The cuisine of the south west of France is wonderful, but here the chef takes the flavours to new heights, with flavour combinations that you would never think of, but explode in the mouth, taking you to food heaven! Both me and my companion have eaten in many fine (and Michelin star) restaurants around the world, but we both agreed that the meal was perhaps the best ever. I can't understand why it only has one star. I have been here a couple of times maybe 20 years ago when I used to live nearby. Tucked away beside Smithfield Market, it's very calm and even though every table was taken, the service was superb. Next door, Cellar Gascon was buzzing. I used to often call by on my way home from work. Here they have a super wine list and serve little plates of food. It's a meal that I will remember for a very long time.

This was a dining experience. Professional and efficient hosts and staff and an incredible menu paired with fine wines. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening. I can’t fault it.
Be the first to ReplyAwful experience due to obnoxious service.
Extremely uncomfortable visit due to the obnoxious behaviour of the sommelier and the waiter. There is no reason for service staff to talk down to clients! This was a table which comprised a professor of finance at a eminent london university and two successful business owners and a medical consultant and hence a complete embarrassment for me as I booked the location.
Arrived and had a frost welcome. Although the restaurant was empty bar one table, we were put next to that table- would have suggested spacing clients out to improve dining experience- but from the rest of the experience, I don’t think they care!
Sat down, ordered a bottle of white- was given a sample to try I remarked that it could be a cooler at which point the sommelier talk down that it was 6’C.i don’t mind being corrected or being told that it was the right temperature- it’s important, how it’s done and certainly the mannerism It’s done needs to be addressed .
That immediately soured the atmosphere!
Then we had the waiter talk down to us like we could not understand the simple three course menu. What he should have done is spent more time explaining that there was no selection for desert and the cheese course was an option between the main and dessert rather than the option of desert with the supplement for cheese.
Unfortunately as the mood soured with the service. The food which was good and as irremediably unenjoyable.
The starters look playful and was good. The lamb cooked well. We were not taken by the desert which presented itself as a winter dish and look like it was invented for christmas only to be served at the end of March!
Very unhappy experience. All in the table concurred that it was the worse service experience and Will not be returning ever!
Outdated, underwhelming, uncomfortable.
Visited with my partner for my birthday this weekend. We are lucky enough to eat in some really wonderful places, Michelin stars included. This place, we feel, is rather lucky to have one.
The bread, with flavours of burnt pine needles, was incredible. That's where the compliments end. The food felt old fashioned, outdated, bland and one-dimensional. Of the seven courses that made up the tasting menu - the only option for that night - a fair bit of food was left unfinished or untouched and not once were we asked if everything was ok.
The wine pairing came with a poor attitude from the sommelier and at odd times - sometimes ten minutes before the "accompanying" dish, others five minutes into eating.
Perhaps all of this wouldn't have felt quite so bad if we had been made to feel more welcome. From the moment of arrival, the team were distant, superior and, occasionally, rude.
A very expensive experience, not one we ever intend on repeating.
Birthday meal
We had the 7course tasting menu with matching wines which both ticked all the boxes. Specifically the wine sommelier Francisca made this a memorable experience. Highly recommend this place. Also, Chef Pascal left my boyfriend a signed birthday card which was a nice touch.

What an amazing experience and an unforgettable evening.
The place is beautiful, the staff are so friendly and helpful and the food is just divine. Thank you for an amazing experience. We will be back.
We’ve done a few taster menus in various parts of the country. This is our favourite. So much thought and attention to detail. Every element was faultless.
