From previous experiences I had higher expectations.
Service was awful. Saw our server one time. Food came out cold. Fries had been sitting. Nobody checked on us. Nobody asked about food until we were done. Reconsider coming here if you want a good meal with good service.
Be the first to ReplyA great place to grab a quick drink and enjoy the view.
The staff is always nice here too.

This was by far one of the worst food experiences I've had in Santa Monica. I'll give them two stars because the waiters were friendly, but goodness! The salmon tartare was so beyond fishy and almost rotten tasting. We also ordered the steak tartare and while it wasn't completely inedible, the presentation was awful. It looked so unappetizing...there just has to be a better way. We ended up sending both dishes back and they did take it off of our bill. Felt nauseous afterwards. Not worth the price or wait.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was very expensive and mediocre at best.
The cesar salad was very sour, the "fresh" juices were from a pre made bottled brand. Service was not too frienfdly The bigger issue was the stuffiness and the bathroom smell that engulfes you when you walk in. They need to improve their ventilation! It was gross. Overall very dusappointing

The 3-6 PM happy hour is where it's at! Glasses of wine and beer are half off plus $12 select cocktails and some heavily discounted bites. There are a few tvs and great ocean views from the bar. We wanted somewhere to watch the superbowl without crazy crowds and this checked off all of the boxes. The eats were all stellar. Burrata ( $12 on happy hour) was so delicious and came with salami and honey cooked pears. We also enjoyed the calamari, margherita pizza and chips with pico and guac. All bites under $12 - a steal! Service was on point and the bartenders were all so friendly and made good drinks. The Shutters hotel is swanky and in a great location. Whether you are a guest at the hotel or just looking for a great happy hour this is a solid spot. 11/10 recommend.
Be the first to ReplyHad a fantastic dinner at coast.
The prices are definitely on the high end but details and serving staff is top notch. I loved these cloth coasters too! Get the dessert. Great options so we chose a few to share with our group and delicious!!! Also they made a perfect dirty vodka martini. It was very quiet and chill which I don't think we expected, but it was an oddly rain Cali day so I think less people were out and about.
Be the first to ReplyLocated in Shutters, the food ranged from mediocre to good.
The restaurant was fairly empty on a Wednesday night. The seafood in the seafood pasta didn't taste the freshest. The carrot cake (local partner) is very good. Our server Jessie really rounded out the experience - he came by often but not over often. He made great recommendations and was genuinely friendly.

Located bang on the Santa Monica beach in Shutters by the Beach hotel, this restaurant has amazing views, great service and excellent food and beverages. We went for brunch on a Saturday. Party of 5 and we had an amazing time. They don't take reservations for brunch so it's first come, first served. We had no trouble getting a table. Everything we had was well prepared and presented. I had the lobster roll which was fresh and delicious. The others had the catch of the day, the Wagyu burger, Flat bread and French toast. We also got a Margherita flat bread, Burratta salad and Caesar salad to share. All great. For dessert we shared a butterscotch pudding and and ice cream Sundae. We would love to go back there soon.

I'm absolutely heartbroken about our lunch experience at Coast today because I was truly looking forward to it and expected something special. We're visiting from out of town, and the restaurant is a 45 minute drive from where we're staying. The location near the beach is fabulous, and the hotel property is beautiful; however, when we entered the restaurant, the hostess...without a greeting or smile and barely any eye contact...asked brusquely if we were 1. hotel guests and 2. how many [in our party]. I informed her that we had a reservation and requested patio seating. She indicated that she wasn't sure about the patio availability and that we would have to stand by until our reservation time, which was about 15min. We sat and waited awkwardly on the bench at the entrance of the restaurant directly across from the hostess podium, and the time I spent in that proximity caused me to wonder about the property's protocol on what is considered professional employee conduct/conversation in the presence of guests. A different hostess finally escorted us to our table. Our waitress did her obligatory duty in a timely manner, i.e. taking our orders, delivering drinks, offering dessert, processing the check. The waiter who brought the food to our table was the only member of the restaurant staff who was engaging, but that was a brief interaction. I had no issue with the price point or the food, but I did have expectations of a much, MUCH higher service standard at Shutters. Unfortunately, my visit was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Be the first to ReplyWell, that was a disappointment.
I have always heard how great Shutters on the Beach was. They must mean the hotel, versus the cafe.5 stars for ambiance. Whether seated on the boardwalk watching passerby, inside watching the waves, on the patio enjoying the breeze, or at the busy tables on the side, you can not go wrong with location. That $14 valet parking might get you for the experience, but eh...5 stars for the service. James was our server. With 10 girls, he took my particulars with smiling grace, delivered with competence, and checked on us despite the busy morn.2 stars for food. We indeed come to brunch fir the food. No one but she who got the lobster roll, liked their meal. Three of us got steaks. Mine was underdone, then overdone, but still an inferior cut. Two of us got over medium eggs, and ended up not eating them for the crustiness. The pancakes seemed to be a pleaser. The eggs Benedict seemed to be good also. The pizza was an unflavored mess. The salmon tartare was just tolerable. The coffee was too strong. Ugh! We will not return for the food.Well, now I've been here, and done this.

We really enjoyed brunch at coast while staying at a nearby hotel which was walking distance last weekend. I like that it's right on the walking path so you can get brunch and then enjoy a nice Oceanside walk! The food was good; hand the egg Benedict, hubby had the lemon ricotta pancakes and a Bloody Mary, all were great! We went on a Sunday morning and did not have reservations, but we're seated right away and the service was great. We will definitely be going back.

Coast Beach Café and bar is located at Shutters on the Beach. This place is so aesthetically pleasing with gorgeous views of the ocean. Coast is where you want to spend the afternoon, any day of the year. We stayed from afternoon until sunset. We sat at the bar where the amazing John the bartender served us. We ordered a few glasses of champagne, salmon tartar and mascarpone polenta. One of the bartenders made me a delightful coconut and pomegranate cocktail with rum to try. Can't wait to return and try some more food items and cocktails.

We keep coming back! The food is always a treat and the service continues to make us feel welcome. Nothing is ever a problem and we enjoy being served by Gio and his team who were kind and attentive. You can't go wrong with one of their salads and the perfectly seasoned Rosemary's chicken is always a hit topped off by a nice slice of red velvet cake. And let's not forget the view!!! We will definitely be back. Enjoy!

This place is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff is also really friendly. They know what they're doing and what they're talking about, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. Food is excellent & sea bass, shrimp & truffle fries are exceptional. The views are second to none & outside and inside is friendly if you are paralyzed like me and are wheelchair bound. They also make exceptional martinis. Noise volume allows for intimate or business conversations A must try!
Be the first to ReplyI thought it had Amazing food, hospitality and view.
Very professional with personality. The food made my tummy happy! Located in an area that's not as busy like the promenade, but still with the gorgeous views. I will be back!

If you are looking for a nice place to sit on the patio and people watch, this is the spot! It's just far enough from the pier hustle and bustle but just close enough to the walking/bike path to feel like you're still in the mix of Santa Monica. We had fish and chips which was good, and a salmon caesar salad topped with anchovies (pictured). Very friendly staff. Restaurant is adjunct to the hotel.

Went for brunch on a Saturday for my bday with my wife and friends. Great location on the beach just south of the pier. The staff here is great, very attentive and responsive. The manager Rafael was extremely welcoming and made us feel like family. Great guy, very professional and friendly. The eggs Benedict and lemon ricotta pancakes were recommended so we had to try them. Also got the 2 eggs combo. We split a lot of the food to share and everything was delicious. I'm a potatoe guy so I really enjoyed their roasted potatoes. Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Pancakes were soft and moist. I'm not really a lemon guy and the ricotta is very subtle but still enjoyed them with the berry compote that it comes with. Would probably try the buttermilk pancakes with Nutella and/or french toast next time. They have valet parking for the hotel right by there but if you don't mind walking I'm sure you can park closer to the promenade and take a nice stroll down there. Might be other public parking areas closer but it's santa monica so you'll likely have to pay wherever you park. Overall a good experience and would go back to try some of their other menu items. Hope you enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent location, more or less great service but average
Excellent location, more or less great service but average food-option selection (for vegetarians). We came here on a Saturday evening during sunset; the weather was great and we were able to catch the sunset, too. The hosts were wonderful and friendly and - almost - everyone was in sync with each other. We ordered some fries which was average and their margarita pizza which was good. Unfortunately, though, their salad was quite disappointing. We ordered a Cesar Salad but requested a different dressing. Our waiter said he could add micro greens, too and we said sure. However, when the salad came, it was literally a pile of micro greens and nothing else. We let our waiter know that wasn't what we were expecting but he seemed to justify it and requested us to order bread. We said no and continued eating. It's really unfortunate because our waiter seemed nice and friendly but after seeing how he wasn't accommodating on a simple salad, it spoiled our moods. Honestly, to think a pile of micro greens for $22, and he couldn't take it back and add to it? Disappointing. I should say though, maybe our waiter was an outliner, because the other waiters did seem genuinely kind and accommodating; one another waiter came to our table and asked if he would clear our table and bring new ones before our pizza came. All in all this place is fine. The location is by far the best part, and the service - outside our waiter - was great. Yes, there food options could be more creative or better presented and yes they could have more unique vegetarian options, but given our personal experience (with our waiter) I would give it a 3.5/5
Be the first to ReplySo far so good however.
..Louise the waiter should never embellish on the drinks someone has had when 2 were plain lemonade !!! So incredibly rude infront of my dad and crazy step mom that I never get to see ... less said is better .. bring me another and don't talk about it ...!

The food here was really goodBut what really impressed me was how busy it was and yet the staff was so attentive. All our food came out really fast, they kept asking if we wanted another drink and came by frequently and filled up our water glasses. No matter how good food is, it can be completely ruined by bad staff. This place was great! I would definitely eat here again. They even nicely packed up our dessert to take back to our room

Santa Monica, CAThe aesthetic here is beautiful with gorgeous ocean views and a clean and crisp white decor like a New England beach house. Shutters hotel is beautiful and this is their casual beach fare restaurant.Unfortunately the food is overpriced and average tasting. Some of our items were sitting under the heat lamp and came out barely even hot.Service is average. This location served our purpose as a good meet up place to watch a game, but there is much better food out there for the price.Valet or street parking. I would come back for a light bite or snack since the view is spectacular, but not for dinner...and I am in no rush to return but would return if the consensus was to meet here again.

Great beachfront restaurant! It's the casual restaurant for Shutters on the Beach, and the restaurant leads right out to the Santa Monica Boardwalk. My cheeseburger was fantastic and my friend's lobster roll also looked delicious. Good service and nice casual beachside food. Higher prices, as you would expect from Shutters.
