Cúrate Biltmore Avenue Asheville Reviews
Worth the hype
Cannot say enough positive things about Cúrate. The variety of drinks (and unique cocktails) help quick the evening off right, and our waiter was able to explain and recommend where we had questions. Every food item we ordered was phenomenal (jamon, patatas bravas, croquettas, mac & cheese, fried eggplant). We also appreciated that even though it was packed, they space their tables well enough that we didn’t feel crowded or cramped. Highly highly recommend for a special occasion, it’s worth the hype!
Always a must!
When we visit Asheville we try to make time for a visit to Cúrate. Amazing food and great service. The pork steak was our favorite and the small plates give us such a great combination of dishes to taste. Always a winner.
Mouth Watering Food
I had the most amazing food of the past years. Everything was unique and delicious!! The waitress was very knowledgeable and supper friendly!!!
nice for group
we had a group of 10 and the waiter suggested he pick the dishes and bring them out in succession. it was all very nice and easy. it cost about $65 without tip per person.
Cool Vibe, Great Staff, Good food - Hits & Misses
James Beard nominated Curate has a nice vibe, excellent waitstaff and great to only ok dishes. This large, popular, tapas place with its high-ceiling, warehouse look and butcher-shop artwork has a cool, upscale-bar/deli vibe. Though it is handicap accessible, it lacks a one-stall handicap/family restroom. Its great waitstaff expertly guides you through the menu and paces your dishes. Curate’s food overall is quite good, with a couple dishes rivalling Spanish tapas meccas like DC’s Jaleo by Jose Andre and Massachusetts’ Bacado. Below in Greatest to “ok” order is our ranking of the dishes we tried: Great: • Lamb Skewers (pincho moruno) – The two tender, grilled, lamb kebobs are delicious. Chef Katie Button uses her Spicewalla Moorish spice-blend in its marinade. • Fried potatoes (patatas bravas) – The freshly fried, slightly crispy, potato cubes are topped with a white (mayo’ish) and red (similar to sriracha) sauces. The sauces provide the perfect amount of creaminess and spiciness to the dish. Good: • Mac & Cheese (macarrones) – This very good dish contains al dente pasta and chorizo, covered in an amazing cheese sauce and topped with panko breadcrumbs. • Basque Cheesecake (tarta de questo) – The cheesecake’s burnt, splotched exterior hides its tasty, super creamy interior. Sadly, the dish’s quality is hindered by some of its macerated strawberries being crunchy and unripe. • Charcuterie Board (tablo du curate) – The pricey, artfully plated, two-person appetizer has a capricho di cabra (whimsical goat) cheese smear with honey and cured-chorizo slices that are good. The heavily nutmeg spiced salchichon salami and too coarse “spreadable” sobrasada are only ok. OK: • Grilled Ramps (calcot con romesco) – This dish is overly simplistic. The lightly grilled ramps (similar to scallions) and a very good romesco sauce does not combine to elevate the dish.
Average tapas meal for us
We booked here for dinner as had heard great things from people we met from Asheville and also the online reviews were great. The restaurant was packed for a Wednesday night but it is big. The waiter was attentive at first but then seemed to lose interest. Find it odd to charge for some aoili sauce as well to go with the super dry croquettes. The food was pretty average in my opinion and we have far better tapas restaurants in London.
a taste of Catalonia in the Blue Ridge!
Our 2nd trip to AVL and 2nd trip to Curate. As before, amazingly impressed with both the service and the dining experience. We enjoyed the chacuterie, calamari, octopus and especially the mushrooms -- all prepared with interesting sauces and garnishes. Service was attentive and not rushed -- we enjoyed a leisurely two hour dinner, totally consistent with the vibe.
Great spot for tapas
Great spot for tapas and full meal choices. Fun decor and the seats at the bar are entertaining as you can watch the food preparation. The trout is fabulous. Be a little cautious as our server recommended way more food than we could eat and it costs too much and tastes too good to be wasted.
Best Tapas I have been to in a long time.
Every tapas small plate we ordered was delivered at the right temperature, was a great ‘share’ for two people and tasted very good. The vibe here screamed tapas and our waiter - Kate - was delightful. A great experience as our first stop in Asheville.
Delicious!
Absolutely delicious but the best was the Ponche Segoviano dessert! I wish we were local so I could frequent this restaurant more. Highly recommend!
