Save your money and dine at other better vegan places!
$280 a head (food only) for little food that wasnโt anything special. So disappointed. It may have two Michelin stars but you can do much better in Tokyo!
Be the first to ReplyGo for the experience not only the food
I'm not vegetarian but a "vegetarian" friend invited me to Daigo. Stunning Japanese private dinning room with view on the garden. Unique food and service.
Be the first to ReplyContemplative Michelin** Buddhist Vegetarian Meal (Shojin Ryori)
This restaurant was suggested by hotel concierge as vegan meal with unique experience and indeed it was! Daigo serves Buddhist devotion/monk food in minimalist setting popular in Japan. The whole experience of savouring this food in extremely quiet setting overlooking Japanese stone garden was striking. Even the most raucous mind will be forced into contemplative thoughts in such a setting as course after course rolls in. The food was simplistic, great ingredients that bring out natural flavours without too many artificial ingredients added. Also, noticed that the food here doesnโt have any of the processed vegan options that otherwise abounds in Buddhist vegetarian cuisine in Taiwan or South East Asia. Hence undeniably healthy and light in the stomach. Sole crib is that I felt hungry 2 hours after the multi course meal. ๐ Lastly, Daigo offers unique opportunity to savor Michelin 2 star cuisine that caters to vegan interests. Not sure how much other vegan restaurants have such distinction.
Be the first to ReplyWe couldn't cancel
My husband became ill so I called 29 hours before our reservation time and the restaurant would not allow us to cancel without a fee.
They said it was their policy.
We had to pay 50%,10,900 yen for the privilege of not eating at the restaurant.
I understand cancellation on the same day but more than 24 hours in advance? For illness?
Unfair and rigid.
The high point of my visit
You dine in a room with a view of a Japanese garden served by two kimono clad waitresses that kneel next to you as they serve an explain each dish (you are seated in a low table). The food is entirely vegetarian, creative and delicious. The street in front of the restaurant was lined up with cherries in bloom and the restaurant was part of a temple complex. It was a very special experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat vegetarian experience
First of all, the food is not simple (as some reviewers wrote in their comments ), so much work is hidden behind every single dish, just to make it look simple. It is pure art ,complimented with fantastic interior and superb service. Shojin ryori is little different from your *medium rare steak with extra fries*. Highly recommended for unique experience!
Be the first to ReplyFood too simple for a 2-star Michelin restaurant
Nice atmosphere and friendly reception from the staff, with a private room and a nice view on a private garden.
We selected the 10-course menu and were disapointed by too many soups versus elaborated cuisine, in fact only 2 which were indeed very good.
Overall, we had much better vegetarian diner for cheaper.
Unique, exclusive experience in tradional Japan
This restaurant is one of the top and exclusive restaurants in Tokyo.
It is steeped in the deepest and most eclectic Japanse traditions.
You follow a set menu according to their strict protocols.
The food is amazlng and almost unrecognizable for Westerners.
Each dish is like a work of art.
You typically get 15 or 19 courses.
The prices of their set menus are just as exclusive but worth every yen.
We can obly be deeply humbled by the amazing craftmanship of the artist-cooks and their amazing staff.
This is one of the top things to do across the world.
A great landing experience
We had booked our table at Daigo shortly after landing in Japan from Europe.
The small private room like display surrounded by garden views in the center of Tokyo is a geat way to take a dive in traditional Japan.
So is the food, all vegetarian, with pure simple food associations, clean taste and unique flavours that only the country of the rising sun can propose.
Extremely intense and though surprisingly light on your stomach, the moment is absolutely devine and ideal for a meal after a 11 hour flight.
The table deserves its 2 Michelin stars, unusual if not exceptional for a veggie restaurant.
The rice and mushroom soup as well as the fried squash in a gelly broth are memorable, but you will get what the seasonal market dictates.
Michelin starred vegetarian!
I just got off a long flight across the Pacific Ocean and went here for a business dinner. The atmosphere and food was beautifully laid out, the only downside for me was that I left hungry when I finished!
There are many amazing dining experiences in Tokyo that I would prioritize over this place but if I had a vegetarian in my group and wanted to wow them, Iโd definitely be back.
