Death & Company New York Reviews from The Last Year
Strong drinks, friendly staff, and a great ambiance.
Would definitely come here again
Oh, a bucket list bar for sure.
Death and co was at the top of my list in terms of must visit spots for my trip. After all, I own all of their books because they are so amazing. In any case, Death and co was quite the spectacle. Dimly lit. Intimate. Lively. You step inside and take a time machine 100 years ago to a prohibitionist style bar. The vibes are insane. The interior is crafted beautifully. The bar? Ornate. I grabbed 2 drinks: moonshooters (house special) and a paper plane (had to get a modern classic). The moon shooters was great. It's a tiki-esque cocktail that is incredibly balanced. A little bit funky with the cachaca. I am on a tiki kick and I loved the creative approach to a tiki drink while maintaining the essence of a minimalist, classic approach and presentation. Obviously, the paper plane was great. A modern classic with some amazing, robust flavor. The bartender was awesome. He was dishing drinks on my half of the bar with ease. He was happy to chat with other guests and was giving out recommendations to myself and other travelers. A stunning, memorable experience I hope I can embark on again soon.
best cocktail places in New York known for their
best cocktail places in New York known for their high-quality service and exceptional products. Prices are high, with an average drink costing between $22 and $30, but the service is great. The ambiance is very dark and cool, creating a super chill atmosphere to enjoy a cocktail. It also feels very romantic

I've been to the Death & Co in Los Angeles so I was curious to try the NY location, the original! This place seems quite busy, there was a waiting list so we put our names in and got a text about an hour later. It's just as dark as the LA location haha. Drink menu is a book organized from light and fruity drinks to ones that are boozier. I ended up getting a cocktail that I didn't love and they replaced it for me which was nice. I believe I ended up with Foxglove which I enjoyed. I found the staff and the air of the place to be a tad pretentious, like they know they're the best cocktail bar. Cocktails are pricey. I feel like it's worth going to see what the hype is about but if I lived here, this wouldn't be my go to place.
Cozy cocktail lounge
It was a small and cozy spot. Very delicious cocktails. We got right in and the server was helpful with the menu. Would most certainly come back again.

I had had a friend rave about this place so one night my boyfriend and I were wandering around the city on a Sunday and thought we would see if we could get in. We ultimately waited about a half hour. However after we were seated there were a ton of seats so maybe Sunday evening is the time to go. There are a ton of different cocktails to try and you have to read your menu by candlelight. It was a beautiful ambiance; I didn't try any food and nothing really caught my eye from the menu. It was cool but I don't need to rush back.
This is the one and only Death & Co.
So come looking for the best cocktails in NY. I came without a reservation before meeting up with some friends elsewhere. I was lucky to get in and to get a seat at the bar. When the bartender came over and handed me their cocktail menu, I asked him to please make me a bourbon-based cocktail and surprise me. He suggested something that sounded great and it was. :) I wish I could recall the build but I can't. :) Overall this is a place to get to. Probably best to make a reservation too. Cool, tight, edgy, dark, excellent!
Unprofessional
Made a 6:00 reservation on Tock. At 4:00, I got a text making me confirm my reservation. When I arrived, I was told they were having a private party and that I was notified by phone they had cancelled me however NO ONE EVER CALLED.
Made a 6:00 reservation for today on Tock a few weeks ago.
At 4:00, I get a text to confirm my reservation. Show up (after spending $30 on a cab) and I'm told they have a private event and that they called me to cancel however NO ONE EVER CALLED. Completely unprofessional, screw this place.

My friend managed to snag a 6pm reservation for 4 people so with a reservation you're seated first before walk-ins. A walk-in line was forming outside right around 5:50p; parties were small so they were guaranteed seating. The staff here is very friendly and the cocktails are innovative and interesting. The ambiance of the restaurant is dark and romantic so probably a good spot to grab drinks before dinner.
I had really high hopes for the drinks and they were good
I had really high hopes for the drinks and they were good but not great. I was expecting really unique flavors but I felt like due to how large the menu was, it sacrificed artistry in the drinks. I also don't think the food was worth it. The service was decent. We asked the waiter questions and he was able to provide recommendations. Overall, it's a cool place (the environment is dark and very much so speakeasy vibes) but I don't think it lived up to the hype.
Visited an old favorite recently.
We went in on a Friday night, earlyish around 9pm, we got lucky, the wait was only about 20 mins. I love so many of the cocktails here, but also really love their classic martini! It's one of the best. Highly recommend the death & co. book as a gift for the cocktail lover in your life.
I wish there was a 4.
5 star option, but service was great so I'll round up. My only hesitancy is the price - most cocktails are just shy of $25 and there are a handful of cocktails in the $35-$40 range. And while I can totally appreciate high quality ingredients and the creativity and care in the cocktails...that makes it pretty damn hard to justify more than 1 before dipping out. That said, the cocktails were fantastic. The cocktails came just as described, there were tons of creative options and little unique twists on classics. Also, while our service was as simple as it gets (we ordered one drink, then left), our server was incredibly patient with some picky woman to our left who sent stuff back and kept pestering about what was in her drink and damn near sent a second one back. All while the table to our right was being difficult too. I don't know our server's name, but hopefully he got a cocktail too after those headaches.
Great atmosphere, awesome service.
Bartenders are on point and very friendly. Come check it out!!!

Cool and cozy speakeasy-style, make sure you get on the waitlist ahead of time as we had to wait about 1.5 hours on a Sunday night. Wide range of delicious cocktails and some bite sized shareables as well.
Great spot for groups upto 6 people.
They do take reservations for 8 but that gets too cozy!! Randy is a great server and can help improvise. Even finger food is very good. Highly recommend.
Incredible high quality cocktails.
A table of 7, that ordered 2 rounds and every single drink was a winner. We also vibed with the dark, cozy yet edgy ambiance.
This place will kill you.
... And then send you to heaven. The drinks, food, atmosphere, and service are great. This place is a true cocktail bar. Tiffany is an angel behind the bar, but makes killer cocktails that will send you into the nether realm . I got the Buffalo Stance cocktail. It resembles an old fashion in appearance, but with a nice maple flare. I would highly recommend this to all my bourbon and whisky drinkers out there. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to gain a true understanding between a bar that serves cocktails, and a cocktail bar. Overall rating: A Cocktails: A+ Bartenders: A++ (next level) Atmosphere: elegant Noise level: loud due to everyone trying to talk over each other. Not recommended for those who are hard of hearing. Chance of recommending this to others: 100%
I rarely say this but this place is really worth the wait.
They have the best cocktails in the city. I had a lovely eggnog here around Christmas 2022 and I can't forget it. They also have great desserts, if you have room for one! But do know that you'll have to wait at least an hour, so put your name down and go have drinks at another East Village spot before coming back here.
We a party of 6.
We went to your restaurant because our NYC friends had been there and recommended us. The host told us for 45 min. Wait and no problem at all! We understand then we had put our name and phone number in. But one of our friend really want to use the restroom. Host not let her go inside and told her to go use dive bar next block! The host he told us that restroom only for customer. I told him that we are your customers too. He said not yet...in 45 min. Omg! This is unbelievable. I worked in restaurants business for 10 years in US and what kind of this hospitality? This is not only what he spoke to us. But yes we decided to cancel our waitlist because he so rude and unprofessional. We walk outside and standing nearby sidewalk and we discussed about we might need to inform their manager. The host, he heard and go to us and said he is the manager. If he is the manager. How come you handled your customer this way. This is so rude. We won't go back there for sure.
Very cool spot
Great spot. Very intimate with low lighting and a cool ambience. We had to wait a little for a space but it was worth the wait. The cocktails pack a punch!

Questions around how AppointmentTrader works for Restaurant Reservations

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
