dipdipdip Tatsu-Ya Austin Reviews from The Last Year
It pains me to say that while my Baller omakase experience
It pains me to say that while my Baller omakase experience with dipdipdip was great, I would never go back and it was a one and done ordeal with us. Hubs and I had been teetering with whether or not we should've kept our reservations or just ditched, but we are rule followers and showed up excited to try out this next tatsuya venue. We have LOVED kemuri for valentines and our go to ramen and expected we'd be wowed for this as well. Sadly, while the staff were friendly, and sake pairing was well received, I felt like I didn't have that same warmth and service compared to some of the other tables next to us who had much more attentive explanations of dishes or cocktails, it was very go go, for us and we were wrapped up. All of our bites were lovely, the broths we chose were tasty and the keep Austin dipping was a hit to give it that Texas twist, but compared to other hot pot experiences I've had in atx, this just fell flat for the price point - the A5 waygu was stellar, I was looking forward to a certificate as well as I had friends previously go and talk about their experience. The interior and theming along with presentation were absolutely beautiful, I loved the lighting fixtures and wooden fixtures all throughout, but sad to say that while our meal was good, was not an amazing omakase to be had, and wish we'd skipped. Definitely one and done for us as there's other hot pot places we'd choose before coming back here.
Really arrogant servers.
Every question was answered with condescending tone. Stuff was set down without instruction or explanation. When one of the pots boiled over and ran pork broth down onto one of our party's legs and bag, the waiter tried to blame them and say it didn't spill. One of us didn't get something we ordered and the waitress said someone else at the table must've ate it. The place was 1/2 empty and they had plenty of staff, no need for the attitude, no one in our party gave them any reason to act that way.
We've had shabu shabu before, but this was our first visit
We've had shabu shabu before, but this was our first visit to DipDipDip and we loved it. Shannon was our server and she was very friendly and helpful as she explained the menu to us. We decided to do the house omakase and it was the perfect way to sample a bunch of different broths, dips, meats, and veggies. The shrimp meatballs were one of my favorite dishes of the night. It was an enjoyable meal in a cool space with great service. We'll definitely be returing.
Ahhhhmaaazing.
From the door to everything. The service is amazing. Had special drinks from the manager for my birthday! I thought I've had perfect hotpot and here is another level! Japanese Shabu shabu hotpot in town. I've been to Japan...everything in this restaurant has been thought of meticulously! Special mention to Bradley our server and manager Toni and the front desk person who was graceful to change to our preferred table! The room, the lighting, the design! The food especially the duck---candle wax made out of duck fat! The experience is so unique and so worth it! To die for!

Shabu shabu was one of our favorite experiences while
Shabu shabu was one of our favorite experiences while visiting Japan last year, so we were very excited to try this place. Happy to repot: it did not disappoint. Warning: if you think this is a ramen experience, research shabu shabu. Any review calling this experience 'bland' is from uncultured swine. It's not about a crazy rich broth - it's about the quality of the protein you dip. First, each staff member was incredibly warm and assisted with any questions, especially giving advice on cooking times in the broth. We appreciated our waiter, Bradley, and his absolutely sweet spirit. I loved that we got a free small bite to start and something sweet to finish (I could have eaten a bucket of that tea-infused dessert). For the food: each person has their own hot pot, which I actually appreciated. Less crowded that way. We ordered the tonkotsu broth, brussels, mushrooms, scallops, ny strip, pork belly, and the A5 wagyu. Each protein was beautifully tender and only needed mere moments in the broth. But I will say.. the dips made it for me. Those that come with the broth (ponzu and sesame) were dynamite. But we also opted for the bone marrow and truffle dips - HOLY COW. These were so rich and decadent and went especially well with the meats. Overall, yes, it is a pricey experience. But when you walk in, you're transported to a new a place and we felt like we were right back in Japan.

Absolutely terrible food, was super excited but failed to deliver. The meat wasn't great and the experience wasn't very pleasant
Very expensive, you can pay $100 and still left hungry.
If you want hotpot, there are AYCE options in Austin that only cost $40
4.5/5 stars I've been a Tatsu-Ya fan and DipDipDip is on
4.5/5 stars I've been a Tatsu-Ya fan and DipDipDip is on our rotation of local restaurants we have returned to over the past few years. Each time, the servers are attentive and offer great explanations of the dishes. I enjoy the environment cultivated by open dining area and music selection. We typically order a la carte and get 6-7 dishes per person which is pushing overeating for me. I usually stick with their tonkatsu, beef, pork belly, scallop, and gyoza. I generally cook rare to medium rare and it always taste fresh and tender. Don't forget to sip some of the broth before they take the pot away! Their citrus ponzu dip and yuzu granita are also highlights. We'd probably return more frequently if it was 10-15% less expensive but that is the only negative thing I can think of for this wonderful dining experience. Recommend!
I don't get the hype.
Bland food in a bland broth that you have to cook yourself. Way overpriced for what you get. $60+ per person and we left hungry. That should NOT happen if you pay over $120 for your two people. The music playlist was great, the atmosphere was warm, the service was friendly. That said, I won't be back. I feel like I've been ripped off for boring, simple food without much flavor. Quite disappointing compared to Tatsu-Ya's other Austin-area restaurants.

Hey Fluffy, thanks for all the questions :-) We do review every appointment or reservation and encourage customers to rate their seller after transacting to minimize issues like that. But nothing is perfect and should that ever happen you will be able to tab a button "Report a Problem" next to your reservation listing in your Portfolio and the AppointmentTrader Money Back Guarantee will kick in.
