Amazing experience
DIREKTE restaurant provided an exceptional dining experience with its ten amazing small dishes. Each dish was crafted with precision and bursting with flavor. From start to finish, the culinary journey was a delight. Highly recommended for those seeking an unforgettable dining adventure.
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant!
This is an exceptional restaurant. Very small, max 15 place settings, but good... very nice service, everything is prepared in front of you. Very special. And above all tasty!

As a starter, a clear soup of spaghetti squash, with pulp and roasted seeds, embraces me with an incredible density and umami. I feel very welcome in this moment, breathe out and lean back and relax. Fantastic! Chawanmushi with sea urchin and okra, delicate, perfect consistency complemented by the iodine freshness of the sea urchin, the thin slices of okra give a light bite. A revelation. Miso-cured scallop with beech mushrooms... simply magnificent. Wood mackerel with pine milk, freshly grated wasabi and orange, Japanese preparation technique with regional products, that's a joy. Every course is finished a la minute over charcoal in the extremely small location or is given a light smoky note, like the mini peas in the following vegetarian course, which was one of the best we have ever been served in such a restaurant. The kitchen staff work so harmoniously and with such perfection that it is a joy just to watch. Other dishes from the ten-course menu were escabeche with razor clams and pig's ear, tortelloni (made a la minute at the counter) with crab and cocoa, fish with pil pil sauce and roasted artichokes, grilled eel with Jerusalem artichokes and shiitake mushrooms, oysters opened a la minute, which were presented directly over the charcoal, perfectly cooked of course, with collagen-rich chorizo broth and peanuts. I just smiled with happiness, no matter what would have happened, it would have been okay, amazing! Two desserts to finish: a kind of mandarin zabaione with coriander and a croustillant made from the citrus fruit peels, followed by a perfectly creamy (I'm really running out of superlatives with this fireworks display) almost liquid, slightly smoked cheesecake with matcha... oh wow! The fact that the mini pancakes, which are part of the Petit Four trilogy, were also made a la minute in front of the guest, hopefully won't surprise anyone anymore. The sensational team even manages to make the evening so relaxed for the guests that there is never a feeling of time pressure, even though Direkte works with two seatings. Chapeau! For us, the menu at Direkte was the perfect culinary evening. We say a big thank you.
Be the first to ReplyIT'S ONLY A BAR BUT WHAT A BAR.
The first thing is to highlight the place where the Boqueria market is located, it is a small facility but attended by great professionals, we were specifically assisted by an Italian boy Stefano and his intern student assistant Paul who treated us magnificently with great professionalism and treatment. Close and friendly, we saw how they prepared the dishes of this different cuisine, fusion they call it and I think the name is very appropriate, (I think they will soon move to another larger location in the Eixample). We had their short menu of 7 dishes and 2 desserts for 68.-Euros each, highlighting that they have an extensive wine list. Magnificent treatment, excellent value for money, highly recommended.

I went with my partner and we were both surprised and loved. We ate outside, in front of the table where the dishes are served. We talked throughout dinner with the waiter while he served us and the other tables. Although the place is small, the preparation and existence of the dishes exceed expectations. The treatment of the waiters is exquisite.

Spectacular food in a bad environment, but they are changing locations. Tasting meal of several courses accompanied by little-known but delicious champagne.

I don't usually give bad reviews of restaurants. When I like someone I tell it; If it doesn't convince me, I'll just keep quiet, but what happened last night at Direkte touched my soul. Even today I am still outraged. I made my reservation a month in advance and specified a bar inside. When I arrive they tell me no, my table is on the terrace. I insist that there must be some mistake, because I booked inside; They attribute the mistake to me and maintain that my table is outside, on the terrace. I look for proof that my reservation is well made and that's when they tell me that there is a group of eight diners inside that completely fills the bar and that they are friends of the chef. I am not. The so-called friends may live in Barcelona and have more opportunities to enjoy that experience, but I took a three-hour flight to have dinner at that restaurant that marked me so much for the better on a first visit and I was left looking forward to it. Honestly, I can't say if the food was the same or worse than the first time, because my anger didn't let me enjoy the experience. To make matters worse, I had given up staying at the Michelin Star gala dinner where renowned stars were cooking and I wouldn't have paid. I had to respect my reservation with Direkte but they did not respect their commitment. This restaurant was one of the most pleasant surprises with which I started 2023 and one of the biggest disappointments with which I ended the year. What a shame to keep this image. And this despite the fact that the person who assisted us did everything possible to make our disappointment more bearable, but there is no way to correct such a serious breach with good manners. I have recommended it to the top. Now I don't think I'll come back.
Be the first to ReplyAn evening to remember! Go if you can get in!
Wow is all I can say. This whole experience was phenomenal from the service to the food to the wine. You cannot look up the menu because it it basically an Omakase menu / chef’s choice and apparently the menu changes almost daily, depending on what is fresh. We had the 10 course and glad we did. We would have hated to miss anything! The waiters are all chefs themselves and help out in the kitchen and are supremely knowledgeable about the food and are happy to talk about ingredients and techniques. The Sommelier, Adrian, was engaging and had super obscure wines he was excited to share. We loved the way they did the matching wines as they just give you a new wine whenever you want it or are ready for it and charge you accordingly..no need to commit to another glass of wine per course, thankfully. Wines are all reasonably prices as well. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate and you get to engage with the chefs if you care to. We would suggest only coming to the restaurant if you love seafood and shellfish, love vegetables and are willing to try new things. It really has a Japanese bent to the Spanish food, which is amazing, but you must be willing to go with it. I have a nut allergy and they happily accommodated that. A seafood or shellfish allergy would be problematic. Apparently they are moving locations in a few month but we will seek out Direkte wherever they happen to be next time we are in Barcelona.
Be the first to ReplyJust awesome food and wine
What an amazing experience - food as a performing art and no less delicious for that. The food was absolutely amazing and the wine pairings, wow, just totally awesome . Blown away by everything! Keep on keeping on. 5 well deserved stars 😘
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
This was a serie of disappointments: A) This place is reknown for being a small restaurant with only very limited seats and proximity to the kitchen, so we booked well in advance. Nevertheless, on a hot humid night we were place outside (in not that tasty surroundings, primarily because of the pigeon stools around us) and not inside B) The menu is unknown, which is basically fine, however for a restaurant not defining itself as a seafood restaurant it came as quite a surprise that 8 out of 10 dishes were fish/seafood based. After round 6 we asked the waiter whether there would be more fish as we now were a bit veary of all those dead sea inhabitants and his reply was that there would not be more of that - whereafter the next two servings contained mussels and fish ... C) the food in itself was not bad, however compared to several other medium-high priced restaurants in Barcelona the food seemed less well executed and with less precision in both tastes and especially serving/apperance. Especially dishes containing acidic elements were completely unbalanced The service was fine and professionel, however it could not make up for the fact that the main attraction, the food, was the biggest disappointment we experience durig 10 restaurant visits in Barcelona.

We had dinner Dirkte Boqueria. Intimate space. You could watch the staff work their magic. We consider ourselves well traveled foodies, but Wow, Dirkte Boqueria put our taste buds to the test. Amazing experience! Trust them and eat whatever they put in front of you. The Sea Anemone was delicious!

A friend of a friend told me about this restaurant gem. He fell short. Me and my girl aren't used to going to expensive Michelin-starred restaurants with creative dishes, but for one day, we dared with Direkte Boqueria, and we're truly fascinated. We're not just talking about sitting down and eating, but about opening our minds to new flavors, listening to how they've cooked the dish, where they've sourced the product, and why they've created the blend and cooked in front of you the way they do. They do have an outdoor seating terrace but, If you can, choose easting indoors, you will feel part of the entire process, the joy of gastronomy, and the love for cooking. An explosion of flavors will lead you to feel things you hadn't felt before. Highly recommended and at a very reasonable price. Cannot thank you more!

It's really worth it, the combination of flavors is very fun. The raw material is of the highest quality. Attentive service. In our case, we chose the long menu, we liked it a lot. The cheesecake for dessert, delicious. As only aspects to improve, the table on the terrace, if the day is hot, is a little uncomfortable

Perfectly balanced tasting menu, amazing dishes. The service was outstanding. The mochi...omg. It’s gonna be in my mind for a while.
Be the first to ReplyNot blown away by any of the dishes
This was my second visit of the week to a Michelin star restaurant in Barcelona, and I have to be honest, I wasn’t blown away by either of them. I was disappointed considering they were meant to be Michelin star restaurants. I’d eaten at two other Michelin star restaurants in two other countries previously and was blown away by the food, but these two in Barcelona just didn’t match up. There was nothing wrong with the food, it was ok, just not outstanding. To be honest, I had far better food at another place - Cal Pep - that afternoon. Direkte Boqueria was even more of a disappointment to me after Cal Pep. The dishes weren’t varied enough for me. I like more meat and sauce, and this was more seafood and broth with wasabi - they like their wasabi and similar tastes there, which just isn’t for me at all. On the plus side, I liked the atmosphere. It’s very small, so there aren’t many people there at all, which makes it nice and intimate. You’re sat right in front of the chef preparing the food, which is interesting to see. The wine was really good. I had good wine all week last week wherever I went in Barcelona actually. The staff were really friendly. It’s just a shame that the menu was disappointing. It would have been nice if it was more varied. The best dish on the menu was the matcha tea cheesecake. I wasn’t too sure about it at first, but the more I dug into it, the nicer it tasted. One other thing - I found it very hard to find this place. I used google maps to get there from my hotel, then it told me I was there, but the restaurant was just nowhere to be seen. It actually told me I was there when I was at a different restaurant. I had a look round, couldn’t find it, so went back to that restaurant to ask, and they told me where it was. A sign pointing to the restaurant would be a great help.

We attended Direkte in March. Based on other reviews we went for the 10 course two desert tasting menu and it did not disappoint. The mackerel, oyster soup dumpling, and the crab ravioli were standouts but I can’t fault anything on the menu. I will be thinking about that matcha cheesecake for a long time. The wine pairings and general attention and explanation from Chef Alex made the night truly special. I have seen other reviewers say their outdoor experience was unpleasant but we were not bothered by the noise or surroundings. Overall a wonderful and good value menu!
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere, OK food...
Direkte is a restaurant on the outskirts of La Boqueria market. They serve a prefix menu that I believe changes seasonally.
I thought the atmosphere and service were top-notch. It's great to be seated at the kitchen counter and see the food being prepared. We did the wine pairing which was pretty good.
I have to be honest and say that I thought the food was OK. As I'm writing this review a few weeks after the trip, I can't remember a single dish that I had. Nothing was memorable and no flavor really stood out. Everything was beautifully presented but I just can't say I enjoyed the food. My wife felt the same.
I have to write a HUGE CAVEAT here: We went to Cocina Hermanos Torres and Disfructar and came away with the same opinion. We did not enjoy the food at either of those Michelin-star restaurants. Maybe we just don't have the right palette for this type of cuisine.
So, take this review with a grain of salt. Taste can be subjective. Clearly, others enjoy this restaurant and it's on many "Best Of" lists.
Adding to the accolades
What an amazing meal. We had the 7 courses at lunch. The food was unusual, delicious and among the most interesting we've ever had. Something unique. Must make a reservation as it is very small.

In a small location adjoining the Boqueria, Direkte is making culinary magic! My family loved every bit of our 10 course tasting menu! Since we were sitting at the counter, we were able to watch as the chef staff created beautiful visual dishes with surprisingly delicious flavor combinations. I’m still thinking about the matcha tea cheesecake! The service was warm and friendly. I highly recommend Direkte for its world class food!
