Dirty French New York Reviews from The Last Year
Rating is for the food.
I ordered the pork dish which arrived undercooked and the meat was pink in the middle. Also ordered the tarte au citron which was cold and tasted like the way a fridgerator smells. Bread service was decent, deviled eggs, pommes Louis and truffle mac and cheese were tasty. Service was attentive until the dinner rush arrived and once crowded, we were left hanging and dinner dragged. The maitre d's, servers, bussers, and front of staff work hard for sure, so I give them lots of credit. They stand to have 1 or 2 more servers on the floor. Would I come back? Probably not. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. Very middle of the road. Ambiance is fine, classic bistro look inside of the Ludlow Hotel. The music playlist was too loud and random. Paul Simon and Aerosmith? Pick the right vibe.
Magical night, exquisite food, and memorable service.
This spot was terrific for a party of 11, celebrating my cousin's art exhibit 3 blocks away. I emailed the manager who arranged for an incredible 3-course dinner served family style -- oysters, steak, frites, salmon, spinach, and ice cream and beignets with caramel sauce for dessert. Magical night with memorable service.
This remains one of my favorite restaurants in the city.
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, food is delicious and beautifully presented, and the cocktails are not watered down. My favorite drink is the Bellmondo. So good. It's hard to choose a favorite appetizer or entree from the menu, as everyone is so good. The best thing to do, is to go with a group and share plates. A few of my favorite starters are the lamb carpaccio and tuna tartare. It seems odd to rave about a salad, but both the kale and the endive salads are exceptional. There are several wonderful chicken dishes on the menu. A fun one is the chicken with crepes. The others are good too. The steak was one of the best I've had, but my favorite was probably the dover, so beautifully seasoned with Moroccan spices. One of the most unique vegetable dishes on the menu remains a personal favorite ~ the Miele feuille mushroom dish. So good! If you have room for dessert, there are some nice options ~ the creme brulee is a favorite, as is the sorbet. There is also a lovely cheese and guava jam plate. You won't be disappointed, regardless of what you order. Bon appetit!
Ambiance 4/5 Beautiful, but tables are small.
Food 3/5 It was good, just not spectacular, and definitely not worth the price. Drinks 3/5 Good, nothing special. 4 people $350.. yikes.. a bit crazy. It was a nice dinner but not worth the price
Down and dirty
The chicken was delicious, but I opted for a side salad instead of fries. The food was great, but it would have been even better with some music.
Everything at this place is incredible.
The food, drinks, and atmosphere is incredible - but more than anything - THE PEOPLE. I highly suggest everyone come here and ask for Pamela (with the braids). Authentic, engaging, weird, and brilliant. Makes for an experience unlike something you will get anywhere else. Will become a regular spot. Pamela is one of a f*cking kind. Give that girl an Oscar we love her. Love this place but love Pamela more.. ASK FOR HER
My friend and I came here for dinner the other night as she
My friend and I came here for dinner the other night as she mentioned she had been before, and always enjoyed the food. We made a reservation for 8:30pm, but we were able to be seated earlier, which was great. We ordered the little gem salad, the truffle Mac and Cheese and the Duck (which my friend was very excited about). They came by with this amazing fluffy bread and dip before our food came out, and I was contemplating ordering another one because it was that good. The restaurant itself is very dimly lit and has a sexy vibe, so great for catching up with a friend or two or for a date night. Would definitely come back here again!
Amazing service amazing food.
At first I was a bit turned off when we came in. We had 6:15 reservations we 15/20 min walk here (I am super pregnant) arrived at 6pm. Restaurant wasn't even full it was empty... they had us wait in the lounge. We were seated at 6;15 and our server PAMELA turned everything around!! Pamela is a phenomenal server!! She just made our dinner experience 10x better!! She went above and beyond everything.
Very good.
Staff is great. I was so lost and felt out of place but they made me feel welcomed and had suggestions for me. Will be returning.
5 star ALL ARIUND! Service was above and beyond.
Food was great and the ambiance was perfect.
I dream about the mushroom Meuille feuille here - it's that
I dream about the mushroom Meuille feuille here - it's that good! They rotate the sauces for it and I've tried the green curry which is amazing. The duck a l'orange is also *chefs kiss*. A smaller portion but perfect crispness to the skin and the sauce is wonderful.
We had their Christmas dinner and it was excellent.
All of the dishes are also on their normal menu: tuna tartare, oysters bourgignon, kale salad, filet mignon, and the two desserts, chocolate cake and lemon tart. The cocktails were also delicious and creative.
Delicious breakfast and cozy !
Loved breakfast here every morning - so cozy on the cold days while we were there and good service! Thank you
Great brunch!!
The best pancakes ever!! Very nice brunch and very good service! The restaurant is very cozy and charming
Good food good company
My wife loves to try new places to eat. I am a creature of habit ! Two words to stay married ( Yes Dear!) So we had reservations at a French Restaurant on Ludlow Street ( affiliated with the Ludlow Hotel) it had a nice ambiance. We were originally going to be seated “ outside” in an enclosed space but my wife felt it might be a bit cold. So we sat inside. I wanted to have french onion soup but surprisingly they don’t offer soup ( let alone french onion) We looked at the menu and then asked if there were any specials. Thankfully they had a scallop dish as one of the specials. I was sold! The others chose duck ala orange ( also one of the specials) . One of our Freinds had a fish dish ( from the regular menu) and another had a pork dish, one friend also ordered a polish sausage appetizer which disappeared almost as fast as it was served. I must say I am usually very critical of the food but this time everyone ( and I mean everyone) was extremely satisfied with their meals. The server was also quite attentive and our water glasses were kept filled! Overall a terrific evening!
Breakfasts weren't that great
I had salad in lounge area a couple of times and that was delicious. Unfortunately the breakfasts at Dirty French were overcooked and dry.
