Best to go with a group
Best baked clams I ever had, so that’s definitely a dish to get here! The portions are large and they dont do samplers so you better bring a huge apetite or a bunch of ppl Service was very good and so was the experience. Poor for 2024 not accepting credit card. Thats super backwards.

This is by far and away my all-time favorite restaurant. I have been dining at this establishment for over 50 years and have celebrated my birthday here on at least 25 times. Not to mention the celebrating of many other special occasions and no occasions at all:) My wife makes fun of me because it's the only place I ever want to go when I am given the option to select. I have brought many first-timers here and most have kept coming back as it never disappoints. The must haves are as follows: don peppe salad with salami and cheese, baked clams, linguine white clam sauce and the veal don peppe. I also really love the linguine prosciutto and chinese chicken so when we have a large group, we usually get both pastas and that chicken. All staff/waiters are very solid but our personal favorite is Harry so you should try to get into his serving section. Be prepared to smell like garlic the next day...and maybe the day after that too!! But well worth it!!!

I worked nearby for years but never got a chance to check out the hype…..9 of us from Brooklyn Prep met here for a mini reunion for lunch….we all had a great time ……note that only cash is accepted and only house wine is available and the menu is on a blackboard……the wine and fare were both topnotch…. I enjoyed the baked clams and stuffed mushrooms the most ……I didn’t try the pasta with red sauce but the linguini with clam sauce was delicious…..we had another chicken dish which was also very good……this is a family style restaurant so be prepared for very large portions

Went to Don Peppe’s with the wife and had a great meal. We had the Shrimp Luciano; Baked Clams; Spaghetti Marinara and end the meal with the Veal Don Peppe. It was worth the 45 minute wait. This is an old school classic Italian restaurant.

Love Don Peppe! The baked clams are a must have! Everything is delicious! Linguine with clam sauce has beautiful chunks of roasted garlic and fresh olive oil. The lemon chicken and chicken parm. are both made with tender pieces of chicken. The fried eggplant is tender and sweet. Everything at this restaurant is off the charts delicious. Service has good days and not so good days. 1 word of warning though, they handwrite the bills and use a handheld calculator--check their math--I found a $100 mistake!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best Italian places I have ever eaten in. Tightly run by a loyal staff and open from 12-9 most days. Cash onl
Fabulous food family style large portions guaranteed. Leftovers but fabulous preparations. They have only homemade red or white wines in their own bottles. The servers are all very experienced . Snd are quite observant which is quite comforting. . The chicken scarpsrelli was outstanding served with sausages , roasted potatoes and onions. So was the veal and the mixed seafood salad. They have a variety of desserts if you can finish Your meals. Remember cash only but it is worth it,

Three day MLK weekend lends itself to overindulging. Ordered 5 dishes total at Don Pepe, 2 appetizers, Baked Clams and Calamari Marinara (which was absolutely delicious) & 3 entrees, chicken Scarapiello with sausages and potatoes (my least favorite dish), Shrimp Luciano with pasta and Veal Scaloppine Lemon and Butter (an outstanding dish, maybe my favorite today). Everything is family style. Lots of left overs. Shared a cannoli and tiramisu for dessert. Will go back.

We stayed overnight at a hotel near JFK airport prior to our departure the next day. Don Peppe’s was one of the recommended restaurants. It was like stepping into a time warp. Old fashioned family style dining, like eating at grandma’s. Baked clams out of this world. Thinly breaded beal topped with bruschetta. Great service. Overall a surprisingly wonderful dining experience. Note that no credit cards accepted for payment.

Quirky old school Italian good food As many minuses as plusses Large portions, pricy Do it their way or not at all Wine list is 2 items, red or white, cheap but passable Entrees come with nothing, side orders don’t exist If you want a little pasta you need to place another full order No American caffee Desserts are limited factory made mostly ices and ice cream No reservations, no credit cards, no parking, no decorations One and done for me

Don PEPPE was the first Italian Restaurant I tried when I immigrated to the US in 1971 to New York . We used to live on the street around the corner, I would walk to King Kullen supermarket and pass by the restaurant on a daily basis, there was always a line to get in. I remember smelling the garlic in the summer when our windows were opened! It was so good to go there once in a while and enjoy the best Italian food, the white clam sauce with linguine, the baked clams ! The stuffed artichoke, the chicken scarpariello , chicken Chinese, Steak Pizzaiola, seafood salad and many more… I always try to visit when visiting New York, but it’s been a while ! I always judge the food by your standards and taste but NOBODY has even come close! We now live in Florida and they don’t have a clue how to make clam sauce ! I am happy to have had many years to eat there and tell people about it. It has been 52 years !! Keep on going and do what you do best ! Many generations appreciate your food ! God bless !

For our annual Christmas luncheon Don PEPPE was chosen …..the baked clams and stuffed mushrooms were amazing..just like mom and grandma made…….the linguine with white clam sauce was also a big hit….the service was exceptional and we were warmly greeted…all nine of us were very pleased….I can’t wait to take my wife here for lunch next week

Have been going there for almost 30 years . Used to go with my family for celebrations at least 4-5 times a year . Now I go once a quarter with my coworker who also used to go with his family 20-30 years ago . Food is amazing and the service is great . Very large portions . I have the Don Pepe veal every time and am able to eat the whole serving as it is delicious . Great salad , amazing red wine and the linguini in olive and garlic is amazing as well . Whole staff including the owners are great but we always ask to be served by Benny as he treats us like family . Already counting down to our next trip there beginning of March . Place is a gem and I hope it stays open for another 60 years . Love love love this place !!

If you like real home cooked style Italian food, this is THE place. It has character, the old Country 1960' style. Only cash is accepted. Like the Sopranos, this IS for you !!!

As good as it was back in the 70s. Loved the baked classic and the linguini with white clam sauce were wonderful. Everything is served family-style, so be prepared for a lot of food. Loved the good old Italian feel from the waiters.

Best Baked Clams ever! over
Best Baked Clams ever! over the years I have tried everything on the menu. Every dish is good but some are fantastic. Linguini with clam sauce, Veal Don Pepe, Burnt Broccoli and Chicken Scarpariello. Just to name a few. family style, don't order a dish for yourself, share.

Yes, thats right. DP's is THE place for baked clam's. The shrimp Don Pepe is also to die for. So is the Chicken Don Pepe. The only alcohol is homemade red and white wine, and quite frankly, its VERY good! Not costly, won't get drunk, but elevates your dinner mood. No traditional Coffee, but yes, espresso and cappuccino's. Bring cash - there is a cash machine outside next to the supermarket if you forget cash. Parking is a challenge. Also, the kitchen basically stops, and the workers gather around the center round table and start playing Casino (an Italian card game) around 10PM. That means enjoy whats left in front of you! Great place, great food.!!!!

People playing poker and smoking at their table. Everyone seemed to be talking about horses and horse racing. Food was pretty good. Unique experience
Be the first to ReplyThe food and service did not disappoint
I was looking for dinner before my flight out of JFK. Being a foodie, I’m always looking for something a little off the beaten path. The “cash only” requirement piqued my curiosity, so i took a chance on what I hoped would be a solid locals hang with down home yummy goodness. They delivered, for sure! Wish I had had more time to peruse the menu. But my braciole and stuffed shells were wonderful. My server was very helpful. The decor is not much to write home about, unless you’re a fan of the Belmont horse races! But it’s pleasant. Go for the food. Stay for the food. Cash only, no tank tops, or hats.
And bring a friend, as the portions are not small.
