Fashionable Speakeasy
Had a fabulous New Yearās Eve early dinner. The exterior front entrance made a great setting for photos. The interior was bathed in rich red in all textures. Perfectly made drinks at the bar were served by expert bartenders. The dinner was delicious and half circle booths made for great people watching. The men wore jackets and the ladies spotted their finest. The cotton candy in the giant champagne glass was opulent and our strawberry cake was served with a giant fountain sparkler! Fun for special occasions. Definitely worth it for the 4 of us.

Drakes has a strict dress code of cocktail attire and goes out of its way to remind patrons through multiple text etc... and yet jeans and tennis shoes abound!!! The menu is limited and features pizza and wagyu steak by the ounce... really?? Disco music blaring so loud you cannot talk is not exactly an elevated dining experience. To be clear , I love disco music but it just doesnt go with the resturant at all. All in all, the food is just ok and there are so many great resturants in Dallas ... go to Georgie, Table 13 or St Martins for great food and ambiance.

Kudos to Drakeās for having a dress code that is actually enforced. I recall treating an old friend and his wife to a wonderful dinner celebrating their 50th at a classy Dallas steak house, only to have a quartet of slobs seated next to us dressed in shorts and Tāshirts. When I later complained to management via email, the response was basically they donāt turn away business. Well, they turned away mine - I havenāt been back since. Iām glad Drakeās has an expectation of their guests, just like their guests have an expectation of them. Since this was our first time at Drakeās, I was initially put off by some of the uber-negative comments here on Trip Advisor. Something tells me whoever wrote that drivel isnāt telling the full story. We found Drakeās to be a fantastic experience. The whole ambiance was cool, and the characters on the wall murals reminded me of the Palm when Al Biernait was manager. I didnāt feel the prices were overly high. Sure, $30 for a piece of cake is expensive, but itās a 24-layer cake, not something that is cheap to makeā¦and itās big enough to share. Everything seemed to be in line with the level of quality provided, and the service was top shelf. All in all, a great evening for my birthday, and we WILL be going again. I might Eve wear a tie next time!
Be the first to ReplyAbusive treatment
So it's taken me a few days to write this review because of the abuse we suffered at the hands of this staff. Saturday night, the 26th, 2 of my best friends and I were kicked out of DRAKEāS on Lovers Lane BEFORE we were seated, an hour AFTER our reservation time, waiting patiently at the bar sipping our first drink of the evening, for asking to be seated in the booth they promised us upon reserving over 3 weeks ago. They did not want to seat us in a booth even though there were at least 3 available. Iāll add that from the minute we walked in, the hostesses at the door said: we know you requested a booth and right now there arenāt any available, so please help yourself to the bar and weāll let you know when your booth is ready. That was the first red flag because we had an 8:15 reservation for dinner for a booth. It was a birthday dinner. We were so excited to be there. Of all the restaurants we could have graced, we picked this disaster. The hostess came over 45 minutes later to inform us we werenāt getting a booth, we were never getting a booth, talked over us and angrily gave us no option but to ask for the manager. Who never came until one of my friends then went to find a manager, herself. When she tried to talk to her, the manager TOOK HER DRINK AWAY FROM HER and made her MOVE OUTSIDE, and some bouncer dude blocked her from re-entering and threatened to call the police if she came back in. A lady, our friend, left in the parking lot with no purse or cell as she left it at the bar with us. I'm still shaking my head as I write this. The GM finally came to the bar where my other friend and I were waiting and told us she would have moved us but āour other guest was yelling at her and so rude to her!ā and went on and on o the rest of the bar could hear her. This friend (of 30+ years) is incapable of yelling or raising her voice. The chef appeared right behind her (with the bouncer guy right behind her) and ordered us to LEAVE. When my friend at the bar, the birthday girl, gently but incredulously asked, āhow did this escalate to this?" and lightly touched her arm, the chef yelled āDONāT TOUCH ME.ā We were treated like criminals. To say we are still in shock is an understatement. Not only did the management lie to us, they treated us with complete and utter contempt. AS THE CUSTOMERS. I am known in my city for being an influence in all things dining and have been moved to write a complaint only once that I can remember and it was nothing remotely close to this. Absolutely Horrible. What a completely unnecessary escalation and turn of events for 3 amazing women who do nothing but promote others. We were so excited to celebrate together. We still have no idea what on earth happened. But this is what abuse must feel like. After a few days of refection, we feel that the way 3 people lined up (GM, chef, bouncer) to threaten and get in the face of 3 women who were guilty of kindly asking to be seated after, then, almost an hour of waiting, in a booth that they reserved, with empty booths clearly in sight, felt like a scripted drama on their end, practiced probably many many times, as we have since heard other horror stories about this place. We went to a neighboring restaurant that thankfully was still open, treated us princesses and served us delicious food with stellar service. SHAME ON DRAKE'S and SHAME on their LEADERSHIP that allows this garage to exist.
Be the first to ReplySKIP it! They donāt deserve anymoreās business.
Unbelievably Pretentious and Rude If you like witnessing staff humiliate and discard patrons while paying top dollar for mediocre bites, this is the place for you. If you donāt, skip it you havenāt missed a thing!

Hard to get reservation here and the marketing event people are terrible . They donāt respond to your request at all. We end up booking reservation for 4 for a birthday party. We would prefer a bigger group but they never responded back to inform itās not available at least. But the waitress was great along with Drake the manager. There was also live music on Sunday night and he was magnificent and will sing any songs upon request . There was also a magician Diamond Jimmy Tyler he was excellent. We had a great night with great food. I would have given it a 5 stars if the event people respond back to my email request. My only disappointment was the people they hired to overlook the event emails. But everyone else made it a perfect night.

First time visit to Drake's last night. Took us forever to get a reservation and it was packed when we dined. Our server, Barbara was good. She was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful with the menu, and attentive. The food was very good. No table bread offered, which was a positive as we are cutting carbs. We enjoyed the Pasta ZaZa, Honey Truffle Chicken, Filet Scarlet, garlic spinach, and strawberry cake. The Burrata Caprese was exceptional and the best tasting tomatoes I can recall at a restaurant. The dƩcor was great and we enjoyed the music. A fun atmosphere, but know that it is pretty loud between people talking and music. I truly support their strict dress code - jackets, no sandals or shorts, etc. Violate the dress code and you will not be allowed in. I respect that. Nice to see people not dressing like slobs when you go our for fine dining. Those were the highlights.
I have been to many fine dining restaurants around the globe, but my visit to Drake's Hollywood ranks at the top of the list of feeling significantly overcharged for what I received. The first example of this being they charged me a $1 for the large cube of ice for bourbon on the rocks. A $1 for an ice cube. In the words of John McEnroe, You cannot be serious! Who can't afford a $1, but I thought that was insulting and greedy. Next on the too costly list was dessert. I don't recall there being prices on the dessert menu, but honestly could have missed them. We had the strawberry cake. It was delicious. When the bill came out, the cake was $30! Granted a large slice of cake, but not much larger than at a fine steakhouse and $30? Ridiculous. Perhaps just me, but $29 for a fried chicken breast and $28 for rigatoni in vodka sauce seemed a bit much. I considered the NY Strip, but at $88 and no sides, it seemed like a crazy price I thought and probably too much steak, so I went to the filet. The steak I chose was good, but at $65 for a 6 oz filet with two shrimp and nothing accompanying it, even if perfectly cooked and flavorful, is way too high. So when you add spinach to go with the steak so you are not just eating meat, your 6 oz steak was effectively $77. Great wine by the glass list, but expect all the reds to be $20+. Cocktails were higher than most places by a few dollars, but not terribly higher.
I don't blame them for charging what they can get. For now, it is a money machine for them. It takes forever to get a reservation (so plan a few weeks out if you are interested) and when you dine, expect it to be full; even on a non-weekend night.
So in summary, pretty good food, outrageous pricing, so one and done for us.
Delicious food, fun weekend entertainment, great service
This place is a destination! So much to write about where should I start? General Tsao's Cauliflower is TO DIE FOR as one would NEVER know it is cauliflower. The steaks, pizza, fish all of it has been wonderful. Their espresso martini's are DEEE-licious and their basil gimlet is wonderful too. Can be difficult to get reservations as onine always shows SOLD OUT. There is a hostess who can be very rude, but the wait staff, bartenders and valet are all wonderful. This is one of our fave places especially on a Sunday for the live Jazz musician.
Be the first to ReplyTERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
DO NOT GO HERE. TERRIBLE SERVICE. These people don't know the first thing about customer service. Would give zero stars if I could. Had family flying in from California to visit us here in Dallas and was very excited to finally get to try this restaurant out after being new to the area. Made a reservation for a Monday (a slow day for most restaurants) and was told that our family's flight was cancelled the same day of the reservation. First off, it took FOREVER to get someone on the phone because they'll answer and then immediately put you on hold with no warning and then continue talking in the background. Extremely unprofessional. When I FINALLY got them on the phone, they told me I wouldn't be charged any cancellation fee. Next day I woke up to a $75 fee on my bank account!!!!!!!! $75????!!!! Sad thing is, I would've spent hundreds more than $75 on the meals I would've paid for in the future had they handled this properly. Now they'll never get another dime out of me, or any of the people I would have sent their way. Disgusting. Not even restaurant credit was offered.
Be the first to ReplyBest Hideaway in Dallas! What a Gem!
Wow absolutely unexpected dining experience. Honestly didnāt know what to expect but this was a great surprise. Old school decor, everything is wrapped in a thick burgundy leather. Thereās old school murals on the wall. Not your typical steak house. You could wear a suit or jeans and a t shirt. There is a sign in the lobby that states there is a dress code but as long as you donāt look like a slob you should be ok.
The Kung Pao Cauliflower is a great appetizer, and Iām not a vegan. The pizza is a real delight and I think a go to for a lot of diners. Hands down though is the Filet. What a great steak. 10 oz of sheer delight. Pair it with the truffle mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The atmosphere on a Friday or Saturday is what really makes the entire experience. The entire staff really enjoy their jobs and it shows as the music plays and they sing and dance along with the diners. What a vibe. Iāve eaten at countless steak houses across the country and not once did I enjoy it as much as I did at Drakes. Everyone is happy and in a great mood. I have nothing negative to say. The staff knows the menu and will make recommendations. They have an in house sommelier should you need help with the wine. Different DJs set the mood through the night. The centerpiece is a horseshoe bar right in the middle. You can dine there or just drink. There is on street parking or complimentary valet. You definitely should consider making reservations or you might not make it in. Best place is Dallas for a date night!!
Amazing Escape!
Wow, step inside and be ready to enter a world where your worries seem to disappear. Amazing over the top friendliness and service. A drink called the Basal Gimlet is a must try. General Tso's Cauliflower, what!? Even those at the table that before ordering said they didn't eat cauliflower devoured this tasty treat. Entire menu looks great, but can certainly recommend the steak and the salmon. Look forward to returning. Outstanding live music also.
