Driftwood Surf Cafe St Finians Bay
Cannot recommend the Driftwood Surf Cafe highly enough and if you are lucky to arrive and place yourself in Carl and Molly's capably hands you will have an exceptional time.

Be the first to ReplyThe most amazing ocean cove I've ever been to
The whistling wind blowing by the razor-sharp rocks, the creek flowing into the ocean, and the cliffs encompassing the sandy beach... Absolutely magical....

We stopped for lunch here, very lucky to have a sunny day and sat outside. The service was excellent and our dog was also well looked after. Both of us thought the food was very very good and in such a beautiful spot too.

Ample beach-side parking, easy & safe entrance, rocks only on each side of bay, smooth break on the waves, lots of company from Germany and Switzerland.

Definitely the best scallops dish I’ve ever experienced. Food here is incredible. Great service with very friendly staff and a lovely, cosy homely feel to the place. Love the Danish inspired furnishings- complements the surroundings perfectly. Too many good things to say! Materiality of the building is beautiful and the Marketing and presentation of the website is also excellent! Cannot recommend the experience of eating here enough.

A hidden gem in one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. Now that the dreaded C - 19 is somewhat, under control, the great team at Driftwood are back with a bang! Superb, no nonsense food, a lot of ingredients, where possible, locally sourced. No expense has been spared in constructing this beautiful building which sits perfectly into the stunning backdrop of the Skelligs The restaurant is beautifully furnished and very in tune with nature. This is a destination restaurant and we would highly recommend including a trip to Driftwood if you are anywhere in the vicinity and if not make a plan to go there. You will not be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyBit of a rip-off.
While very pleasant location and interesting contemporary design we were not impressed with the food nor the manager’s attitude when we gave him polite feedback. Menu was attractive. They seemed unprepared; steak was off to others’ surprise; the goat’s cheese start was disappointing, the chowder lacked fish and a bit salty. Had to request bread. We each had fish a gratin which was too salty and didn’t have scallops as on menu if I remember. The chips were like McDonalds and I make better myself. Three desserts, poor choice so we had none. Manageress kept tossing her hair which looked unhygienic. The place was opened for Easter and seemed ill-prepared.

Driftwood Surf Cafe was much more than we expected. Attentive staff, great food and amazing views. The food is modern, inventive and tasty. We were a group of 4 and 2 of us decided to pass on starters in favour of dessert but when we saw the other people's starters we were sorry we had. The beef croquettes were amazing. Main courses were well sized, just the perfect amount of food. The desserts sadly were not as exceptional as the other courses, they were tasty but a bit of a let down after the other courses.
The location is amazing and we were lucky to be there on a lovely September evening. If you are in the general area you have to include a trop to this restaurant.
Such friendly service !
Such friendly service. We couldn’t have asked for more from the last serving us. Priceless and effortless! We will be back. Thank you.

Had the most delicious lunch at Driftwood yesterday - such a fabulous setting for a restaurant overlooking St Finians Bay with views straight out to the Skelligs. Great warm welcome, good service and just can’t wait to go back. Such a fab addition to the area Jill

This on trend restaurant had a location second to none on the Wild Atlantic Way. The design is totally in keeping with magnificent scenery and surroundings. The interior is beautiful with simple clean lines, tasteful furnishings and quirky little touches throughout. At the moment, due to the unmentionable, dining is outside and the menu has been adapted for this; It is short but perfectly formed and has something for everybody. We had a chicken burger with a lovely piquant red cabbage coleslaw and really nice skinny fries, chunky chips loaded with monkfish and crab meat. It was lovely eating alfresco and looking over the beautiful blue sea below us and the endless sky above. There were lovely patio heaters to keep us warm until we drank enough wine that it didn't matter!!
As is the norm in Kerry everybody who is part of the Driftwood family looked after us to perfection and we look forward to returning. Karl and his team have put a super new menu together for full indoor dining next month. Will it happen on time? Who knows? But it will happen at some stage. When it does and you are anywhere nearby don't pass this special and unique restaurant.

Beautiful Scenery, fresh air and fantastic people. It’s peaceful yet there is soo much to enjoy - A chocolate factory (Skellig Chocolates) not open for visitors yet but chocolates sold locally and they taste amazing. Boat trips around Skelligs Rocks on the Skellig Falcon - a fabulous fast and modern boat and we ate in the Driftwood Cafe where the food was excellent and nothing is too much trouble. What a day out !!

Be the first to ReplyAnother nice beach along the Ring of Kerry Route
This is another nice beach along the Ring of Kerry Route, after the Derrynane and Ballinskelligs Beaches. Nice place to stop for a break while driving the Ring.
