🤢 2/5 - Why weren't the mai tais better?

I had been told that drinks (mai tais in particular) at sunset at Duke's were a "must" when on Oahu. I like a good mai tai and have mixed my own at home. The mai tai I got at Duke's was poor. There was a bit of a fruit flavor, but the predominant flavor was neither rum nor fruit but kerosene. Perhaps they've switched to a very cheap rum? I went back there another night with some friends. I gave the mai tai another try. I had a different bartender than the first night and had high hopes for a better drink. Nope. Kerosene again. A friend who tried a sip of my mai tai characterized it as "undrinkable." If this is your claim to fame, Duke's, you really need to do it a little better. We got food and it was decent. One disappointment (beyond the bizarrely bad mai tais) was the fact that the barrier surrounding the patio seating means that, even though you managed to get a table at the front of the patio at sunset, you can't actually see the sunset as you drink your expensive, kerosene-flavored drink at sunset.
