Magnificent food and service, we were a large group and the service was excellent with the complexity of a gastronomic meal for a large group, thank you

Restaurants in this category must use excellent products and cook them exquisitely, neither one nor the other is given, in addition to abusing sauces and inappropriate mixtures and thus achieving the perfect disaster. It has a fame that it does not deserve we will not return
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing
We had high hopes for this experience, but we were disappointed in every way. - Menu: Flat and repetitive (up to 4 mushroom starters), in which no dish surprised or stood out. In the animal sequence, we only liked the ravioli. The fritter barely had any filling and the other two dishes (steak tartare and tomato, herring stock and wine) displeased us greatly. To comment on one last detail, the final dessert course has 3 preparations, all of them chocolate and then they serve the Petit Fours with brownie and chocolate tile, which we believe saturates the palate with this ingredient. Small details that are expected to be taken care of in establishments of this category. - Local: We started the visit on the first floor on a threadbare sofa. We continued at “the bar” to eat a frozen salad and a croquette, which was not a success for us. It gives the impression that you want to take a tour through a space not enabled for this, perhaps in the past, but not today since the characteristic elements of the time are not preserved and nothing is included that would make you enter into that environment. Finally, we went to the living room. An open-plan living room that, in our opinion, is not up to the standards of a two-Michelin star. Comment that the bathrooms also detract from a restaurant of this category. - Service: Being very friendly and attentive, the service lacks a little strength. We do not doubt that they will learn it over time, but it is true that in a restaurant like this more confidence is needed to imbue the diner with the experience. We were surprised that the place was empty. Only one couple accompanied us for a short period of time, our table was the only one in the place for almost the entire experience. Of course, this is not the restaurant's fault, but it does not live up to expectations.

The service was slow, the attention of the waiters… without further ado We expected more from a two star Nothing surprised us The bathrooms need renovation we will not return
Be the first to ReplyExcellent. Deserves its two stars. Hat.
Very beautiful restaurant The welcome is perfect The tasting menu is exceptional, and full of surprises. Original but still embellished with historical family references. I recommend without limits.
Be the first to ReplyA pleasure for the senses
We have enjoyed the tasting menu. The staff and Chef Francis very attentive and friendly. Thank you very much for everything, it has been a pleasure for the palate
Be the first to ReplyVery bad experience
We were two couples and ordered four starters, croquettes and blood sausage, which were not bad, peppers and stew, the peppers looked like they were from a jar and the stew was raw and very bad. For the dish, some trotters, which were not bad, but looked like a skewer, some terrible squid and lamb, which I have my doubt was not from the previous day, the desserts without more and the best was the wine, a great reserva, which would have only been missing That was bad costing 51 euros. The staff was attentive, polite and very nice, but the food left a lot to be desired for the price you had.

Excellent tasting menu with wine pairing. The menu, very well selected and combined from start to finish. Tasty, original and, in some cases, truly surprising dishes. The offal is very important and if you don't have any hobbies, the chef makes some wonderful recipes. The service, perfect. Kindness, friendliness and professionalism at all times. Summary: a great 3-hour experience that we enjoyed minute by minute.
Be the first to ReplyA great restaurant (although my expectations were higher than reality)
My wife and I visited this Rioja restaurant, which I had wanted to visit for years. I have to admit that my expectations were higher than the food, since unfortunately there are dishes that lacked flavor (for me, a dish being tasteless is unforgivable in a restaurant of this category) even my wife did not eat a dish , and that had never happened before. I give it 3 points for the service in the room, the wine selection and the beauty of the restaurant, but I would give the kitchen a rating. I want to think that these restaurants, so seasonal, summer is not their best time and there are other better times of the year. The feeling is that it has 2 Michelin stars, but it would be closer to 1 than 3.

The wonderful vegetables, the great wine selection, the croquettes, be sure to try them, the staff a 10, if you are in Ezcaray it's worth going to see it
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience with a touch of great service!
The restaurant is in a small beautiful town called Ezcaray. The family is from there. From the moment you get in, you are treated with smiles and excellent service. From the beginning, Tomas was very professional, then Jose Miguel y Eduardo made the evening very welcoming. CHEFE the sommelier recommended an excellent selection of white, rosė and Red wines to go with the meals (not pairing); the meals were a representation of the region, and you can tell their pride on preparing them, everything was so delicious and balanced. At the end of the meal, owner -chef, Francis Paniego came and greeted us and prepared the menu cards for us to take home. It was an amazing experience, in fact, we loved it so much, we reserved lunch at their other restaurant, Tradición, and it did not disappoint, another great experience.
Be the first to ReplyVery good experience high quality
A cuisine based on a high tradition, very elaborate dishes and of great intensity, defines this restaurant that surprises as soon as you have the first contact with its famous croquettes.
A pleasant experience that allows you to discover La Rioja and its cuisine at the highest level.
Very professional and friendly staff, excellent desserts and a strong wine list.
Totally recommended to those who want to experience innovation over the traditional
A different type of and thrilling value in Michelin Experiences
Several things stuck out in our experience here that elevated the evening above other restaurants of this ilk we have been to. One, the movement of the meal starting out casually in the garden on a beautiful night, through the restaurant and finally to our table for the main courses. This made the meal feel more interactive, more all encompassing, than other experiences where you simply sit down and start being fed course after course.
Service was incredibly one on one and a real joy. We especially enjoyed the artisanal drinks served with the first few courses of tapas/pintxos before we settled into the wine list. Every high end ingredient was in this meal, and because of the inexpensive local Spanish wine and reasonable prix fixe price tag we found it to be an exceptional value. El Portal easily slides into the top 10% on my list of Michelin starred restaurants.
Great food in a great location to enjoy the outdoors - what’s not to like?!
After a long bike ride from Echaurren’s equally high quality hotel, we were definitely ready for our meal at El Portal. We were not disappointed! Favourite courses included the oyster in a nettle purée and the “lapin au chocolat”. We enjoyed a wide range of wines, mostly local, through the meal. A shout out to our great waiter for the night from the next generation of the family, who was working his first night in El Portal.
