Epicurean Barangaroo Reviews
Best Buffet in Sydney
So far this is the best buffet i have ever been, the worst one was at the HArvest Buffet at the Start pls dont go there. I am a small eater and dont each much at buffet but since i like to try a lot of dishes we went here. The best buffet I had in Sydney and for the first time i ate a lot more than i can handle lol it was that good. Planning to go back this year for my birthday again. The best dish i can remember was the Moussaka it was the best one i ever had , the desserts were awesome all dishes were top notch taste Only complain i had was when i was paying at the counter they mixed up my invoice with another customer who justpaid before me so i had to wait a bit for them to fix it
Don't go if you have allergies
Make sure you book and request a seat neat the sushi bar. We were seated around the corner and it was a bit inconvenient. Food was good quality, but there were so many people! Despite the lines, I did enjoy the fresh Japanese and seafood. Desserts looked good, but I couldn't eat anything as unsure of the ingredients and noone to ask. Negative was the complete lack of care about allergies. Not one dish or dessert listed allergens or ingredients, making it difficult to safely chose food. And they don't care - see photo of the card given to me at the entry. So if you have allergies, I doubt you will be safe or get enough to eat. I am GF and stayed with fresh food without sauces, so am hoping I will be ok 🤞. It was also quite expensive- $336 for 2 people for lunch, no alcohol. No views to justify the steep price.
The EPICurean
Epicurean at the Crown Hotel Sydney is a truly exceptional all you can eat buffet that elevates the traditional concept into a luxurious dining experience. The buffet offers an extensive array of dishes from around the world, but a few standouts absolutely stole the show. The sushi station is a highlight for me featuring a variety of fresh, high-quality fish. From buttery tuna and rich salmon to creative rolls, each piece is meticulously prepared, with perfectly seasoned rice that balances the flavors beautifully. It’s a must for sushi enthusiasts. The carving station is another gem, with tender cuts of beef, lamb, and pork. The slow-roasted lamb was particularly memorable, with a crisp exterior and succulent, melt-in-your mouth meat. There’s also a variety of grilled meats, bursting with smoky flavors. Whether you’re a fan of red meat or more exotic meats like duck, there’s plenty to devour. When it comes to dessert, Epicurean takes indulgence to another level. The dessert station is a visual masterpiece, just looking at it makes your mouth water, with delicate pastries, fruit tarts, and rich chocolate mousse. The macaroons are perfectly crisp, while the creps strikes the perfect balance between soft and rich, especially when combined with the wide array of sauces, I went for the thick rich chocolate sauce and it was divine. Every dessert is a treat for both the eyes and the taste buds. With its sleek, modern design and incredibly fast service, Epicurean provides a truly indulgent experience that’s perfect for any occasion. Whether you're there for sushi, grilled meats, healthy fresh fruits or veg or even to indulge in a dessert spread unlike any other, this buffet is worth every bite. Highly recommended
What views?
Our booking request was made a month in advance for a family birthday celebration. We were seated beside the the cleaning station of dirty plates and rubbish with no views of the city skyline at all! Our views were of the dirty plates and the service staff. Even though we were so close to the service staff, seeking their attention for service requests was difficult at all times. Such a disappointment for price, value and ambience!!!
Birthday dinner
Came here from NZ and this place doesn’t disappoint. The food and selection is really top notch and very tasty. The atmosphere is buzzing hard core and it’s fascinating watching everyone. Some folks obviously haven’t seen food before as they pile up their plates. They do need a test at the start on manners and traffic flow as some (one particular demographic) have no personal boundaries or coordination control. Only downgraded one star as it is really hard getting a drink!
Dreadful
Absolute bedlam! Like a pigs pen! The seafood station was like no one had ever seen an oyster! Been wanting to visit this restaurant for so long. Never again. Service was not up to scratch and had to ask wait staff to serve our wine as apparently they were looking after our wine and would serve it without asking! Didn’t happen! Really over rated and not good value at all. I hope it improves
Terrible experience with booking request
Terrible experience with the booking request for our Family of 26 guests. We did not want to do Group booking as there is an extra 10% charge applied. We requested to just put all our 3 tables around the same area would do. However when arrived, we were Shocked to see our 3 tables were Miles away from one another, and behind each table, there is another big long table for other guests. It all feels like the table arrangements were purposely done to seat our Family members as far from each other as possible, simply because we refused to pay the 10% extra for a group booking. When my Sis in law asked about why this, the restaurant reply was 'You don't want to pay an extra 10% ...' Other than that the Food was OK.
Weekday Lunch
Came here on a weekday lunch to celebrate mums birthday. There was a queue to get in but it moved very quickly. We were seated, and at the buffet in no time. Weird sort of set up where you can approach a section from either end causing a bit of confusion in the middle, but that was a small issue only. The food was good, plentiful and super fresh. We knew there wouldn’t be lobsters at lunch so we weren’t disappointed with the prawns, crab, pipis, mussels and an amazing sashimi bar. The rest of the food was also of good quality. I did mention on booking that we were celebrating a birthday but there was no mention of it. Still, service was pretty good. For $98 each maybe a little steep. Nevertheless a good experience.
Overpriced for average food
Epicurean at the Crown is a smorgasbord restaurant. It’s bedlam. Overcrowded, expensive, food is very average, and most of the staff look like they’d rather be anywhere else. Our couples date night was saved right at the end by Jerome the dessert chef. He made us fresh crepes and went to the main kitchen to get brown sugar and lemon. They were perfection. So after thinking we were having a very one star event we felt a tiny sprinkle of magic.
Watch for the one hot drink rule at pricey breakfast
Not sure who comes with this ideas! As a guest of Crown Sydney my breakfast was included in the price of hotel room. However normally the privilege would cost you $57.50. I can’t really complain about the quality of the food at the buffet- at this price you expect a decent quality. But… Upon arrival at our table we were asked if we wanted a hot drink. I chose to have a black tea to start with. It took about 15 min to get it and it came on a leaking pot - half the tea ended up on the table. My husband’s omlet order came after another 10min - wrong omlet. Didn’t complain about that - sometimes orders get confused is such a busy restaurant bit at the end of our me asked for a coffee just to be told that we would have to pay for it - $6 - because only one hot drink is included with our breakfast. I really don’t understand the logic. I could eat half a cow drink 5 litres of juice have a kilo of salmon, chocolate fountain, ice cram and more but my teabag in hot water costed me 6 dollars! Where is the logic? I rarely complain and find it frustrating that customers are treated so badly. Apparently the one drink rule came in about 6 months ago. In my case it really wasn’t that much about the 6 dollars - it is just about the logic and arrogance of Crown management. So petty!
The Epicurean
Dined at the Epicurean on Friday night at 5.30pm with my husband. Service from wait staff was great, bringing clean cutlery and plates as needed. Oysters were Sydney Rock and a little small but fresh. There was some lobsters cut in half and various shellfish. Plenty of variety in cuisines. Wine and beers are expensive. Room filled pretty quickly so booking is essential. We will venture back again.
Excellent seafood
Extraordinary experience, we came with my family and we all really liked the food, and the service was very good. We will be back
Quite nice - spoilt by bizarre wine service
The buffet was quite copious and varied .Quality was generally good - I particularly enjoyed the Japanese section. Seafood was OK - prawns, oysters & swimmer crab all fresh. Ordered a bottle of Rose' and asked them to leave the bottle on the table. Not allowed it's against the rules!! Later on ordered a glass of red. Told they couldn't bring it until I'd drunk the drop of Rose left in my glass as nobody is allowed to have two glasses with wine in front of them!!! Bizarre infantile rules - no adult likes to be treated like a three year old. I've travelled the world and never come across anything like this. Oh dear!!
Good variety , inconsistent quality
Buffet Dining Experience: A Mixed Bag Upon entering the Epicurean , the first impression was one of ample space and a bustling atmosphere, indicative of a popular dining spot. The restaurant boasts a wide variety of dishes, ranging from seafood , roast meats, Asian , curries , sushi bar , fruits and dessert classics, ensuring that there's something for everyone. The food was mostly fresh and well-stocked, with a decent selection. The sushi section had a modest assortment, but the freshness was hit-or-miss. The Italian and roast meats featured the usual of: pizza, pasta, and a carving station. The pizza pockets had a satisfactory taste, though it lacked the crispness of a freshly baked pocket , The pasta was adequate but would benefit from a bit more seasoning. The Asian section with dumplings and various dishes and curries was also hit and miss with freshness or quality. Some dumplings have dried out , while curries and noodle dishes didn’t look too appetising. The dessert station was the highlight, with an array of cakes, pastries, and a chocolate fountain that was particularly popular among the younger guests. However, the sorbets and iced cream was a mess from teenagers not paying attention and/or butchering their scoops , which was a disappointment. Service was polite and attentive. Plates were cleared with promptness, but getting a server's attention for drink refills took some effort. In terms of value, the price point is fair for the quantity of food, but the quality leaves room for improvement. It's a suitable option for large groups or family outings where variety trumps culinary excellence. Overall, Epicurean offers a buffet experience with City views but with no major flaws but also no standout features. It's a solid choice for those seeking quantity and variety, but food connoisseurs might find it lacking.
Go somewhere else…. Anywhere
Barrangaroo is a great spot, but this would be the worst choice you could make to eat. The seafood buffet is impressive, but like most buffets is overcooked. The service was appalling. There are so many places in the city, take my advice, give this one a wide berth.
NO
Quality of seafood was poor….i think it was fresh but low grade. We go to Glebe fish markets all the time, the fish & oysters are much better there. Hot food-pizza tasted like cardboard-dried out & flavourless, duck-tasteless, chicken wings-dry,flavours really lacking in hot food. I make a beautiful roast duck…it’s not hard! How can you screw that up? View was nice. Not worth the money & would definitely NOT go back!
Extremely pleased with my dining experience!!
I visited the Epicurean on October 28th for the first seating of their mega buffet. It was amazing and the service was also top notch!!! There was so much food to choose from. There is a time limit because there is a second seating that happens right after, therefore you have about 1.5 hours. Everything was incredible but come really hungry because it’s too much food that you will miss out on.
UNBELIEVABLE BUFFET
This was my first visit but you may realise I go to lots of good places. This is truely outstanding. The buffet is visually spectacular and everything I tried was outstanding. Great oysters and lobster tails and sushi and sashimi plus chinese and Indian offerings. Simply outstanding. Do yourself a favour. I can’t wait to go back.
Yeah Nah!!
Sunday price of $135 per head for a pretty ordinary buffet AND THEN they apply a 10% Sunday surcharge to everything so end result 2 people, pre dinner drinks (1 beer, 1 cocktail) plus wine = $473.00!! Seriously, my local leagues club that has fabulous water views do a buffet for $26 per head which features fresh seafood which is more than can be said for this venue where the seafood was very ordinary with some of it clearly frozen (this from a venue about a kilometre away from the biggest fresh seafood market in the Southern Hemisphere). On the plus side, wait staff are very good hence 2 stars but we will not be rushing back.
Food was ok
Had dinner here for our 20 yr anniversary and it was very much overrated for the cost you pay. We are not seafood people, so other options for us were minimal. Drinks we wanted weren't available which was a let down. They knew it was our anniversary and didn't give us anything special besides the crowns chocolate bar. Very unimpressive if you ask me. Not only did the hotel let us down with a promised cake they never provided, but the buffet also didn't do anything special for us. Only enjoyable part of the buffet was the dessert
Amazing buffet, outstanding views
Oh where to start, from arrival to outstanding table service,Hayley and Chelsea looked after us all afternoon. The food, an all you can imagine buffet, towering oyster bar, fresh crabs, then a sushi bar, roast/carvery section, Chinese, Indian oh and the best last, the dessert and chocolate fountain. Something for everyone here, don’t miss out
Okay but not for couples on a date night!
Whilst it is probably the best buffet in Sydney, it was extremely crowded and not the best place for couples. It felt rushed and loud. The seafood lacked in flavour which was disappointing. The rest of the buffet was fine with plenty of selections to choose from. I enjoyed the breakfast far more as it was much calmer. The staff were wonderful and attentive so to that end, could not fault them. A table of 10 departed and four staff promptly cleaned, all assured in their specific task to prepare for their next guests. It was like clockwork and no one talked, just got in and did what they needed to do. Training of their staff is obviously very good.
Nice Buffet
It may be a bit more expensive than other buffets but overall good variety of good quality food at a great location.
A surprisingly enjoyable dining experience, with a great view
Profoundly sceptical about the supposed charms of an all you can eat buffet. The experience turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. Two hours to over indulge so you have to pace yourselves. The biggest draw card h is s the seafood - oysters, bugs and lobster tails aplenty. The sashimi / sushi bar was excellent too. Charcuterie and cheeses were well represented too. As for the hot food, there was a good selection of Asian / Indian and Australian / European options too. The spacious room makes for a more relaxed atmosphere than I’d expected and it’s 5th Floor location provides a nice vantage point for Bridge views and sunset.
Being part of the Burswood building which is massive since
Being part of the Burswood building which is massive since the addition and renovations we and not being regular clients to this establishment we found the entire place poorly signed with easy see directions, as there are just so many restaurant choices here. The food was impeccable without doubt one of the best smorgasbord up market experiences I've had in Perth. The choice of seafood local and imported was fresh well prepared, surprisingly the oysters (2) types where well presented very fresh and tasty prawns firm fresh well balanced in cooked styles with a subtle taste. Meats: beef pork chicken lamb roasted to a juicy perfection gravy on the side. I would have liked to see some game meats like crocodile. Well done to the chefs a job very well done but please sort out your curry's all where good bar the curried lamb, I would suggest using lamb not mutton for the western taste buds. Deserts: a massive choice and I only tried about 8 choices again well done. Fruit platter: fresh crispy watermelon rockmelon and many more choices. I would suggest several visits to this hard to locate dinner experience if you can afford the $230. For the 2 of us...finally our table was cared for and served extremely well by a young lady who was just brilliant in her approach to serving our party... congratulations to all staff and chefs... the reason you failed to get 6 stars is the mutton curry.
