Interesting twist on South Asian food.
Great spot for casual dining. Food is new and exciting, service good. The Kerala fried chicken and sesame crisp small plate is delicious.

We had a horrible experience today on Father's Day. We initially had reservations for two people at 1pm on Sunday, however our childcare plans changed and we called early on Saturday, spoke to a woman who stated there would be no issues and Ettan can accommodate us for 4 people at 530pm on Sunday but we would need to leave by 730pm. Great, we arrived at 515pm, dressed up, with with two kids in tow, on Father's Day, waited patiently for door open at 530 and once we reached check in, we were told there was no reservation. We spoke to the woman at the desk and she became quite defensive, look at us like were aliens and basically stated there was nothing to do. Then she said, oh "maybe if you wait for 15min she can look into maybe giving us a table if something becomes available." It was embarrassing, uncomfortable and totally unacceptable as I had wanted to treat my husband for being such a great dad on Father's Day. I recommend this restaurant look into better training, understanding how to take reservations and make changes to reservations and some consideration placed into being professional with some empathy.

We had such a great time here. Beautiful atmosphere. Delicious food. Wonderful, attentive service. We will definitely be returning!
Be the first to ReplyThis is next level Indian cuisine
Iโve eaten a lot of Indian food. This restaurant serves next level Indian. The menu is contemporary and interesting, yet they still pay homage to a few โcomfortโ dishes. We ordered several small plates and a few large plates. The server helped us with the quantities for 7 people and we ate family style. The cocktails were excellent. The desserts were incredible. The blending of spices from start to finish was sublime. This kitchen and front of house staff know what they are doing. I look forward to my next trip to the area so I can return to this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyAn Interesting Blend of East and West
We recently had a delightful dinner meeting here with two associates. The food was an interesting blend of traditional Indian dishes with a California (Western) flair. This is a small plate restaurant, but well worth the dining experience. My particular favorites were the Butter Chicken and the "Mamu Kabob". The latter was a cacophony of spicy, delectable flavors and something to definitely try when dining here. Ettan's Naan was light and added a perfect touch to a wonderful meal. Another interesting dish was the Sesame Leaf. Not inexpensive, this restaurant in nonetheless worth visiting for an excellent dining experience. I will add that we sat outside, a somewhat quieter venue than Ettan's nicely decorated interior dining room.
Be the first to ReplyScreaming toddler on a Saturday Night for 2 hours, parents thought it was cute and were videotaping it.
Food good but very noisy. There was a family with a toddler at the table next to us and she screamed for 2 hours straight. The restaurant said nothing. It was a Saturday night, screaming toddlers should be at home in bed. Will not return.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service! Tasty food!
First time dining in Palo Alto. Lots of options here. Glad we tried Ettan. The dishes were creative and very tasty. Our server Victor was super! Gave us great guidance and very friendly and efficient. Would love to come back here again
Be the first to ReplyGorgeous restaurant and unique, tasty food
The restaurant is beautiful and stylish- HUGE outdoor patio and gorgeous interior with two stories and an atrium. Food is unique and delicious. The fried chicken and the monkey bread were standouts. Service excellent as well. All around a great experience.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent
We visited this place few weeks back during our San Francisco trip. Its a really nice Indian restaurant with very good ambience. The staff was very helpful and suggested different combinations for us to try. Being vegetarian, and with limited choices, that really helped us a lot. Food quality was excellent and the portion size was adequate. It is a bit pricier but definitely worth every penny. I would definitely recommend this place to try if you are in Palo Alto area. You will not be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyOnline order - Got sttod up with a cancellation in the last minute
I ordered from this resturant on June 7th for a special ocassion. The resturant canceled my order 30 minute before pickup time. The excuse "They have a private party", the lkitchen is busy and can not deliver What a pathetic excuse and arrogance of telling a customer that another customer is preferred over you!. This is suppsed to be run by a Michelin star chef! Does Michelin star mean anything any more for customer satisfaction or it can also be bought like any other rating!
Be the first to ReplyNice Indian place
Went with the wife, booked a place 2 weeks prior. Seems that most of the seating is outside so bring a jacket. There's a few outdoor patio heaters so that was nice. Food was good, not amazing. We started with the Cast Iron โMonkey Bunsโ and the Ettan Salad, which was amazing, really good. Then we ordered the Chicken Biryani and the Sesame Leaf, which were also good dishes. Overall we've had a nice experience.
Be the first to Reply5 stars, left full and happy
This was my favorite meal during my 6 day vacation in California and I ate every few hours lol. When I read Michelin Star and Cal-Indian flavors I wasn't sure what to expect and I literally enjoyed every single bite.
COCKTAILS:
Green Hot Chili Pepper 16
Blanco Tequila, jalapeรฑo, lime, Ancho Reyes.
*spicy with citrus, you feel the warmth in the back of your throat and the drink was gorgeous
SMALL PLATES:
Sesame Leaf (v) 15
Chaat Flavors on Sesame Leaves with Mango, Sesame Brittle, Chickpea Crumble and Cilantro
*lots of textures and pops of flavor, I really enjoyed this dish and recommend trying this as one of your starters
LARGE PLATES:
Vellore Chicken Curry (g) 29
Coconut, Roasted Chilies, served with warm Kerala Paratha
*the coconut really rounds out this dish, chicken was so tender and I kept dipping the paratha in the curry
Tava Fried Copra Beef (g) 29
Black Pepper, Curry Leaves served with Kerala Paratha and Homemade Pickles
*the beef had texture of filet mignon, super tender and really great sauce that I also kept dipping the paratha in
We didn't have room for dessert but I hobbled out very full and happy.
ATMOSPHERE/SERVICE:
Our server was very attentive. The restaurant is two levels and absolutely gorgeous, resembles Restoration Hardware and they have a beautiful outdoor space as well but it was too cold for me to dine outside.
Unique cuisine
Cuisine is a word that is often misused. At Ethan it is more than appropriate. If you are looking for a typical Indian restaurant you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a unique dining experience in a relaxed atmosphere without the TV blasting away Indian music then you have found the right restaurant. Come with an open mind and an open wallet prepared to savour the unique delicious flavours of a relatively small but excellent choice of dishes. These days most restaurants impress with the presentation. Here the presentation is outstanding only to be out distanced by the amazing blend of flavours. Ethan offers a flavour of India with a style of its own. The service was attentive, relaxed and helpful in explains the dishes presented. The choice of wines, beers and cocktails are another area that would take me much more time and words to expand. This was an outstanding night out that I will want to repeat. I am not an expert on Indian food but I know when diligence and skill are combined to present an amazing dish. We ran wild and explored a wide range of dishes on the menu with awe and pleasure.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced + Terrible Service
Terrible service. Taking reservations 30 minutes prior to kitchen closing is an insult. Then they tell you to over order & they werenโt upfront about food that was sold out. The manager tried to do right by us but his staff ruined those chances. You could tell his efforts were non genuine. The food is redeeming this review from being lowerโฆ
Be the first to ReplyGreat Take on Indian with great service -thanks to Jose!
We adored our waiter, Jose, who went above and beyond to make this a great dinner. He recommended the best dishes and spent time after our meal chatting about the awesome Amaro menu (a highlight -I love the Italian connection - great to have an Amari offering after your meal at an Indian restaurant).
We ordered almost every small plate - loved the black cauliflower, all the nan/roti, and the One Mushroom Pot was amazing. The Black Cod was good but maybe a step down from Japanese style black cod but super interesting. The Paneer was excellent. I love this modern take on Indian food (Cal-Indian) - vegan and vegetarian options abound and drink menu was fun too. Thank Jose for being such a great friend and server.
One of the best Indian meals
One of the best Indian meals that I have had. Decor and food were outstanding. They have some teething problems with the service - that will hopefully be addressed soon
Be the first to ReplyVery good food, but some service issues and value for money improvements to be made
Our first meal in COVID times - seeing this new restaurant in early evening with only a couple of tables occupied , we decided to try it. (It did get a lot busier- and tables were closer than ideal). We had a fish dish and chicken dish plus starters. Food was excellent, but with a pretty high price, it needs to offer a little more - e.g add about 50% more of the side papadums used for the dips and paratha bread (and rice) to mop up the sauce -so that one does not have to wait 20 minutes when asking for some more. We are not big eaters and recognise this as an up market restaurant -but just want a bit better value. With annoying delays in the main waiter service (bus boys were very attentive), we raised these points to a senior senior staff member and she then introduced us to the co-owner/chef - and they were very good at recognising that our feedback was sincere and well intended and addressed our comments very fairly. So I wish the restaurant all the best and if they can address these growing pains, I think this will be a real go to restaurant if you want a more up market experience with very good food.

I lost all the text I had written this app sucks. Doesnโt save drafts. Spell check needs improvement and recommended dishes should get populated for reviewers to select
Be the first to ReplyPalo Alto's Best!!!
Indian cuisine in the Bay Area has finally come of age. There have been many attempts at internationalizing Indian fare while maintaining core flavors and textures, but no one does it like Ettan. This is a true labor of love by Chef Srijith who brings ingredients, flavors and passion from his home state of Kerala in South India spinning fabulous dishes with true Michelin star panache. And the decor ..... enough said!!! So happy to have Ettan reopen after a short opening tenure followed by SiP. My one and only go-to for world class Indian cuisine in the Bay Area.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding!!
By far the best restaurant we have eaten at in Palo Alto!! It just opened and the food and service is fantastic!! Creative and delicious food in an beautiful setting!! I canโt recommend enough!!!
Be the first to ReplyGreat service & ambiance. Creative menu. Vegetarian friendly
Michelin Chef Srijith continues his creative food designs with the opening of Ettan. He joins businesswoman Ayesha in a unique, aesthetically designed restaurant with a creative, exciting, and vegetarian & vegan-friendly menu. Bringing the quality & service of Taj Campton Place in San Francisco, this restaurant is a welcome addition to Silicon Valley where traditional Indian dining abounds, but Cal-Indian fusion food with ambiance & great service is limited. They have an incredible list of alcoholic concoctions, mocktails & deserts as well. My wife & I dined here this week & will be back again this weekend.
