Folly by Nick & Scott Dubai Reviews from The Last Year
If I could give 6 stars I would!
Folly is always a personal favourite Dining spot in the Madinat. Every time I go for food or drinks the service is exceptional especially Mario who is the manager. I've been invited for many amazing tasting experiences and can't recommend the food or atmosphere enough.
Great Service and experience
Folly exceeds expectations on every level with an exceptional dining experience. Highly recommended for anyone seeking culinary perfection and service, Their manager Mario was super alert and went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Thanks alot!
Delicate and refined cooking by chef Bojan Cirjanic
Checking off another restaurant from my bucket list. Folly is located in the bustling Madinat Jumeirah which, to be honest, is a little too busy with visitors. Once you get into the venue, most of the noises dissipate and you’ll have the seatings areas of indoor, terrace, or rooftop bar. The view on rooftop bar is immaculate. Lovely terrace, and a rather simplistic but comfortable interior. Surprisingly small semi-open kitchen inside the restaurant. A very warm welcome by the hostess, something which is always appreciated. Obviously the degustation menu would be the first choice for me. Three canapés to start with: king crab tart with cucumber gel, pastry stuffed with veal tartare, pastry with truffle on top. All were very pleasant. First starter was seared scallop with pumpkin, sea asparagus, sea grape, and caviar. Beautiful sear and perfect doneness on the scallop, well balanced flavours. Second starter was what spiked my interest in the first place, as it was the cover photo of Folly on Michelin Guide. Zucchini, Tunworth cheese, watercress, black garlic. Gorgeous presentation, light, fresh, and delicious. I always love a beautiful plating. Fish main was halibut, fennel, green olive, Buddha’s hand. Rather less memorable compared to the other dishes, largely because of the inherent difficulty of finding high quality halibut from suppliers in Dubai in general. Everything else on the plate tasted great, though. Loved the banana shallot. Meat main was sirloin, leek, lentil, capsicum, beef fat custard, and brioche. Fabulous dish. Didn’t get a chance to take a photo before the sauce was poured but the circle of capsicum purée was a fantastic touch of aesthetic. Lovely tuile, rich and hearty brioche, wonderful seasoning in every component of the dish. This to me is one of those dishes that encapsulate the idea of Michelin Guide. Pre-dessert was a parfait with raspberry and lime. Not the most memorable pre-dessert ever, but it does the job. The lime gel was surprisingly light: I imagined it to be much more acidic. Very nice touch. Dessert was chocolate with tonka bean ice cream, almond brittle. Not my favourite. I guess chocolate-based desserts have never really been my preferred style. Nice mignardises as well. Although I found one thing slightly incongruous: the chocolate truffle was tiny. The tartelette with meringue was moderately sized. The mignardise in the middle was comically large compared to the chocolate truffle which was next to it. It just didn’t look very appealing. But as you can certainly tell, I’m a picky person when it comes to culinary aesthetics. Would recommend Folly to people in a heartbeat. Good value in terms of menu price against quality of food, lovely view on terrace, and the option of a kitchen-counter degustation menu with wine pairing. A very high spot on Dubai’s Michelin Guide in my opinion.
Unbelievably accommodating and amazing food!
The place is beautiful and the views are stunning, complimented by an outstanding dining experience and the staff including the management were faultless. I have lived in Dubai for 8 years and its the go to restaurant for all of my visitors.
Dinner with a view
A beautiful bar and restaurant in a great location with great views of the Burj Al Arab. Food was high quality and delicious, a wide range of dishes which suited everyone in our large group. The service was excellent throughout and the staff could not have been more welcoming. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic views from the rooftop bar
Called in for drinks one evening and sat on the rooftop bar (make your sat to the very top, don’t stop half way) Service very good and drinks reasonably priced (for location) - they also have a happy hour (5-7 I think) with cocktails at 30aed Would recommend
Huge disappointment
I had booked here for brunch on January 1st on their rooftop with extremely high expectations given that the owners worked for Gordon Ramsey and given that they put a lot of emphasis on the fact that their cuisine is creative, modern and informal... but it was a real disappointment. Brunch started at 3pm (already here, a slightly unusual time for a brunch); the courses were absolutely not a mix of breakfast and lunch (another anomaly) but the menu was one that could easily be served for a lunch or dinner...as if that wasn't enough, everything was served at the table (so no small buffet, another thing that's a bit anomalous for a brunch) but the most absurd thing was that the 3 courses were served an hour apart from each other, from 3pm to 6pm, one course every hour: I understand that they wanted to create an atmosphere relaxed and convivial, for a cheerful lunch with family or friends, but the service time was extended to truly ridiculous levels. Plus the portions were absolutely RIDICULOUS. I have eaten in starred restaurants again, I am perfectly aware that you pay for the quality, the imaginative combination, the explosion of flavours, but these were a taste, not a portion, even for a restaurant of this calibre. I wouldn't go back. Not even for the sight or the environment.
Spectacular View!
Nothing beats the romantic charm of Folly’s rooftop terrace! One of the best scenic views I have ever seen in Dubai. Whether it be for drinks, food or great company, Folly is a definite place to be. From the Manager, to the staff and the chef - everyone ensures you are taken care of at all times! Thank you so much Bianka Manihayme for bring us to Folly and giving us the best experience! A beautiful and professional young lady! See you again Folly!
Highly commendable
Everything just compliments. From the greetings when you arrive to the service team, to the view and the amazing food and best selection of drinks. Visited this place recently and I must say, we had an amazing time. I highly commend the service and culinary team. Thank you Bianka for the invite and making sure that all is well taken cared off specially your wine recommendations are the best!
Christmas eve brunch and greedy approach
Pros Fantastic food but that’s all about it. Hats off to their chefs their food is out of this world. Taste and presentation is top notch. They are the only reason why this restaurant carries their legacy. Cons Disaster service. They squeezed us into a table literally in the middle of their bar and service operation despite we booked our table 2 weeks in advance and paid a deposit to secure. When we shared our disappointment with the table allocation, the answer we heard was that’s how it is and we should have mentioned that we wanted a corner/sofa table even without the phone operator mentioning these specifics. No solutions whatsoever offered. Out of 11 tables, ours was the only one in the middle of their service and logistic route. We have been forced to stay on a table we didn’t feel comfortable at. Management of Gate Hospitality needed to understand that they do not need to squeeze a table by being greedy, instead, to ensure all their guests are comfortable. They are lucky to have such culinary delicacy to cover their service inefficiency. We had guests and so excited to take them to folly but we regret at the end. So called manager hiding behind the kitchen and 0 interactions with the guests to ensure their services are wel provided.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
