Great hidden gem in the Old Town of Montreal. Wonderful fresh seafood with great atmosphere. Odd by not a sign.
Incredible fresh seafood food and excellent side dishes. Pleasant, happy staff made the atmosphere delightful and an excellent bartender made me a delicious Manhattan without all the typical USA ingredients. The chef selection 5 course meal is wonderful with many small plates built around an impressive cold seafood (shellfish) platter. One strange but interesting feature. This restaurant is like a speakeasy in that there is no sign in front. On a small street in the old town port area, there is a number and a door. Inside, a lively happy small restaurant filled with very happy customers. And a fun staff. Totally unique experience yet I am so very happy that our hotel concierge knew about it. Great evening, great food, great atmosphere Make sure you reserve well ahead. It can be quite difficult to get seating as it is small. Bon appetite
Great food…great service!!
Went for our anniversary dinner. Booked online and all they had available was bar seating, I left a msg saying it was a special occasion and would appreciate a table if possible which they accommodated us with! Our server Taylor was wonderful. We went with the tasting menu which was fantastic! From beginning to end a truly wonderful experience! Would highly recommend.
What was isn’t anymore
I had high expectations for this restaurant which features the “famous” chef Chuck Hughes. Unfortunately it didn’t deliver on any account, most importantly the food. The 45 minute wait for the $58 plate of “fresh” coho salmon from BC with fava beans and caviar butter was served lukewarm and worse, was tough and didn’t taste fresh at all. I should know as I am from BC and can cook a tender melt in your mouth salmon every time. This was a huge disappointment- upon returning the dish I received alot of apologies but really shame on this kitchen for not getting this right. The Chinese style grilled octopus also failed to deliver- tough and rubbery $38 My friend had the Hanger steak and found it to be “ok” a second appetizer: cauliflower mushrooms was actually pretty decent but by the time it arrived as a replacement for the salmon, I had lost my appetite All in all the service was on the friendly side of ok, but I would have preferred a more mature and professional service. The whole experience really didn’t justify the $250 tab for two and the reaction to my feedback was defensive and unsatisfying- this place had its glory days and I would say they are definitely over - food wise Ambience is nice for a date but there are plenty places in Old Montreal I would choose next time
My mouth was SO happy!
We enjoyed the Chefs Table (an experience that has been on my bucket list for years). It was amazing! We ended up sampling 18 different items! Everything was super fresh and delicious. The staff was amazing. We appreciated all the small touches too.
Excellent food and great service!
It was 5 of us, we went there for dinner. Food is so good. It is expensive..but it excellent. we all order "Chef Menus". Prices are from 125 -275 you get 4-7 course meal.. we ordered 175 /person and each food was excellent test!!.. We all enjoy our food. As for drink it was just okkkkk,
Unprofessional staff
We were at an event nearby and then looked for a place to eat and decide to go to the garde manger We walked in and stood in foyer waiting for someone to great us We stood there for 10 minutes the staff saw us and NO ONE came The restaurant was only half full We left of course and went to spend our money where we we welcome In these harsh economic times you would think a restaurants would be happy to have more customers It might be a well known establishment but that is no way to treat potential customers This restaurant might feel entitled and above the rest because of its famous chef but arrogance and rudeness will be its downfall if they continue There are many restaurants in Montreal that treats potential customers with professional service and attitude
Awesome meal & Awesome service
Hands down our favorite restaurant for dinner in MTL ! Menu always kicks ass, presentation and food always on point, as is the incredible playlist! Seafood tower doesn't get better than this, oysters and the sturgeon spread is so damn tasty. Loved the beef cheek agnolotti, swordfish, radicchio salad Can't go wrong with any of the desserts. Homemade Focaccia has me craving. Shout out to Nico & Taylor for a great memorable evening, we shall see you next year , thank you !
Salty food and hard to find
we couldn’t find the place no lights or signs. had to pay for bread. razor clams were minced with onions. artic char was raw

Simply amazing. From start to finish, just a wonderful evening. Service was attentive and thorough. We shared the lamb, octopus and sea bream to start. I had the swordfish as my main. Everything was delicious. Even the sourdough bread was mouth watering. The sommelier chose a fantastic wine to complement. This is one of my favorite meals in one of my favorite cities!
Great seafood, great atmosphere, great music and really friendly staff
We couldn’t have had a better evening. All the seafood was great and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was relaxed and the retro playlist was really cool. A great place only a 3 minute walk from the Basillica.
Delicious seafood, exceptional staff
One of our best meals when in Montréal! The staff really made the experience extra special. We love seafood and this was the best of the best. Also had the dessert and veggie side-everything was top notch!
Incredibly Creatively Prepared Seafood Feast
This is a MUST VISIT seafood restaurant! Chef Whalen is a genius as every dish of the Chef’s Menu was so unique and flavorful. Never had we enjoyed mussels, clams, snow crab and oysters with signature touches making each morsel unique. The smoked sturgeon pater and the albacore tuna were heavenly. The Chef’s Menu is a prix fixe multi-course extravaganza. We almost didn’t order it because we were concerned it would be too much food for both of us…..and there were good size servings of each menu item! After gorging on the raw fish platter (for 2) we were served with plates of Arctic Char, Black Cod and Monkfish. OMG each was a freaking masterpiece of taste, presentation and uniqueness. We enjoyed the Sauvignon Blanc house wine very much. The waitstaff was friendly and couldn’t have been more helpful with explaining each and every course - the seasonings and preparation methods. There is an open kitchen which we stood at and watched their food preparations, It was amazing to watch. In Montreal there are a number of 4-5 star options, let Garde Manger be one on yours too. A memorable dining experience in an almost hidden 18th C. Building on a small side street in the Old Port area. A wonderful area to walk around working up an appetite. Bon Appetit.
Delicious memorable meal
Recommended by friends. Excellent artic char and black cod. Sauces were sublime, apple pie was great, still not sure about velvets ice cream!
Montreal gem
It’s as good as the hype. The atmosphere is cozy and authentic. All the staff is passionate about the food and drink . The food was perfect from the octopus appetizer to the fish entree to the dessert. We ate at the bar and enjoyed talking to the bartender. The music was Ali’s wonderful.

* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* DistinguishedTree58, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* DistinguishedTree58 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to DistinguishedTree58 for any questions Peter may have as DistinguishedTree58 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* DistinguishedTree58 now uses their connections at Garde Manger Montréal to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If DistinguishedTree58 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, DistinguishedTree58 receives the $200 reward which is credited to DistinguishedTree58's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Garde Manger Montréal!
