We've been coming to Gladstone's for over 30 years; when the Palisades Fire happened, we looked on to see if they would be swept up in the firestorm. Luckily, most of the property survived but remained closed for almost six months. We ate there about 3 weeks after they reopened with a limited menu while their repairs continue. We ate on the beach side deck - the main dining room was still closed, but there isn't a bad seat anywhere. The food was top notch and delicious and many of the long time wait staff were attentive and happy to discuss the challenges and future. Please continue to support this piece of SoCal culinary history. We'll be back for sure!

Happy to see Gladstone's has returned, although not 100% yet ( outdoor patio seating only now ) ... not sure if new owners are in place but with changes comes a new limited menu (pictured)- had the clam chowder (A+ lots of clams and creamy), and crab/shrimp louie (comes with avocado and bacon)- also A+! Others in our party had the lobster roll (A), chicken sandwich (B)- average... and fish and chips (C)- tempura dipped fish ... while fish was great, the tempura coating just didn't work .. would not recommend... overall though great experience, view and service.

Today, 9-12-25, at about 1230pm I, a 57 year old Hispanic female, went in there with my elderly sister, 73 year old Hispanic female, and waited over 20 minutes before a man took our order. I am not sure why this happened as other guests arrived after us who were waited on and served food before us. There was also a waitress that kept walking by us without even offering to take our order. It has been many years, since I came here and don't recall having such poor service.

Gladstone's on PCH is all about the view, waves, sunshine, and that classic SoCal vibe. The seafood's fresh and the portions don't mess around. Loved the warm Sourdough, crispy fish tacos, golden fish and chips, and green beans that were so good I almost forgot they were vegetables. Friendly staff and plenty of parking seal the deal.
Loved the food and the service.
Excellent fish and chips and the clam chowder was amazing.

Due to their reopening since the LA fire, some things are still not available like the oysters and other items in the seafood tower but our server Maddy more than made up for it. She was attentive and friendly and even gave my daughter a complimentary dessert because of her important personal milestone. We're regulars here and we'll keep coming back for sure!

I made my return journey to Malibu albeit far to long into the future, but hey ... I made it. And I made it back to Gladstone's a second time as well. First time there was on a recommendation from a friend. I had just relocated from Michigan to San Diego. Still in San Diego 25 years later. And the Food, Service and Ambiance is just as good as it was back then. I had the Grilled Halibut, mashed potatoes and butter with a side of this delicious spicey yet flavorful oil based veggie condiment what it is escapes me yet again. Washed it down with the delightful Santa Monica IPA. I wish I went back in after charging my phone up more in the car. I actually should have just brought the cord in and charged phone in the shade, but I didn't have a wall outlet adapter with me. I might have been there long enough to possibly connect with someone I was waiting to meet. Ahhh ... another lost opportunity. Just have to make it out again down the road. Also should've gotten a printed receipt or opted for an email version. Could've had the name of my server to properly give attributable credit to for helping me choose the fabulous selection I made. Host was very friendly and made me feel right at home. The young man assisting them was very attentive as well and answered my questions promptly regarding Gladstone information. Plenty of parking. Attendants were very friendly as well. Will be back sooner than later next time.

Service has always been great ! Views are definitely something worth the wait and drive to eat here ! when it comes to the food it's OK tuna tartar AMAZING (not on the menu any more or at the moment unsure) everything after that was just ok i had the seafood plater the lobster roll and Clam chowder out of all of it the clam shower was great but again nothing to rave about.

So happy Gladstones is back open! I had such a phenomenal experience here, the ocean views were absolutely stunning. Right now, only the patio is open and they're working with a limited menu since they're still renovating and recovering from the tragic fires, but it's heartwarming to see this iconic spot healing and the community showing up to support them. Our server was super friendly and attentive, we were never left waiting. We started off with their Pina Coladas, which were so refreshing and honestly tasted like a smoothie (in the best way). The calamari was AMAZING-- I couldn't stop eating it even though I was trying to save room for my entree I got the Grilled Chicken Sandwich for my entree which was good, I wouldn't say it was anything special but was totally worth it with the breathtaking ocean views. Such a great place to come for a sunset dinner. I'm so happy to see this beloved restaurant standing strong and thriving again!
There were no clams in our $20 bowl of clam chowder.
Beautiful view for a $15 parking fee. In 2025, nothing justifies visiting or patronizing this long standing establishment, not even for a glass of water. Gladstones overpriced menu is not worth eating there anymore. There are a few restaurants that offer coastal views while serving clams in their chowder-checkout The Albright on the Santa Monica pier(although there is a double tax on the pier)-Gladstones has lost its luster...
No me gustรณ
Gladstones has a great ocean view, but thatโs about it. The food is overpriced and underwhelming, with bland flavors and mediocre quality. Service is hit or miss, often slow and inattentive. Youโre mostly paying for the location, not the experience. Definitely not worth the hype.

Came here on March 3 2024 aka the prophesized tragedy by Twitter User @2dollarbeer for an anniversary date. The biggest tragedy was that everything in the world to me smelled like mucus and heartbreak and love so that I wasn't even hungry by the time I arrived. This was another bone chillingly whippingly windy Southern California winters day .... Enough sun for my nose to burn but wind chill so high I need my floor length wool trench coat so as to not freeze. And freeze I did not! The dining area with the view unfortunately had a bit of a draft so it was chilly at our seat despite being indoors. Service was not too frequent yet not too infrequent .. they got that balance Order split between two: - sourdough loaf. Best of it all -crispy calamari. Lowkey not crispy enough for my taste - ahi tuna sandwich. Wasn't my first pick to eat, but love is compromise. Only had a few bites it was decent - fish and chips. Perfect! - Diet Coke. Can't go wrong. Despise a restaurant who only serves Pepsi .. what kind of business model is that? This is my second time at Gladstone's, and while yummy and a beautiful experience, for this price point I would rather make the mob north to SB to a place like hendry's on the boathouse for a restaurant vibe that feels as luxurious as the food does. This is like my one and only critique of gladstones. Great for a weekend lunch, but maybe not my first choice for a celebratory location. As it so happens I did not take a single photo because I was preoccupied. My sincerest apologies "the Za got me thinking about tragedies that havent even happened yet .. March 3rd 2024.. damn...." -"$2, @2dollarbeer via Twitter 13 November 2022
Love the view of the ocean.

It's gone now, but I'll tell you that sourdough bread and that seafood tower is unbelievable. Love it.
The view of the sunset was awesome.
The food was great and the customer service was on point. I'm most definitely going back.
This place is a morgue.
Clearly all attention to customer service and standards have been abandoned. Eat and drink here at your peril!
Beautiful view.
The smell of the beach is amazing! Sitting on the deck I believe is the best place to be. The deck is huge, so there are plenty of opportunities. Last time I was here was many years ago(35+)- when first moved to this city...today it was slow, but the food was still fresh and GOOD! The service is a bit slow, but take your time with a friend... enjoy each others company and soak in the view and you will leave refreshed, relax and feelibg satisfied that you had a yummy meal.
Worst service EVER.
the ladywaitress goes to tables sits at customers tables chit chat with them ignoring all customers.takes 30 min for them to even say hello.def no and waitress acts like a wacko

I've been to Gladstones before, but this is the first time today when I went to Gladstone with a friend and I had the lobster roll. It was delicious and I would recommend it to anyone.. we also shared a loaf of sourdough bread. What's not to like about hot warm sourdough bread with plenty of butter. And for dessert, we shared the big slice of chocolate cake. We each ate some and brought some home. The slice of cake was huge and could feed at least eight people was very good.. the weather was beautiful and sunny. Our waiter was amazing. I'm sorry I can't remember his name. I'm severely deaf but I would highly recommend anyone who loves seafood and loves to look at the ocean. Definitely go to Gladstone can't ask for anything better food great atmosphere win-win
Great atmosphere, view and drinks.
Service very friendly and approachable. Don't miss out

My parents have been coming here for years! I am home visiting Cali and my dad decided to take us up here to watch the storm and enjoy some food and drinks. Not one person was there... we had the entire restaurant to ourselves for a good amount of time. We probably spent a few hours here just catching up, watching the ocean and rain, and enjoying some good food and drinks! The ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful. The views are beautiful. Such a great experience! We also met a friend, who I hear is a local! His name is either Jerry or Gary but he was a cool bird. Thank you, Gladestones!

Terrible terrible food! Drinks only with ocean view. Tasteless lobster roll, old hard fries, Watered downโฆundrinkable Arnold Palmer drink. (25 years ago had good food)

Sadstones. Not what it was 20 years ago
Went back after 20 years but did not like it at all. Sorry. .... Place.is filthy rusted and not clean. Wife kept spiting put shell shards and fragments from linguini and clams. Sauce kooked grey, over salted dish dangerous and inedible. My fish stew awful my ahi was cold. Table was gross place was dirty and nasty. Service horrible better service at chick filet. Homeless and beggars in the parking ares. Graffitied and nasty.Fixtures and furnishing need to be replaced. So sad. I can't imagine why anyone enjoys this at 50 $ pp. 11$ parking no valet. Go to maestros or moon or dukes. This one u need to avoid. Not worth it for us. So sad a need to improve. Worst food we had in years.
Disappointed
Back in 1999, this place had ambience and there was always a wait to get seated. We sat inside, little to no decor, tight booth seating, calamari was quite tough and the lobster was impossible to crack into. Everything else was good but this is not the Gladstones I remember. Unfortunately next time weโll try Moonshadows or Dukes. I miss my โoldโ Gladstones!
The worst fish and chips I've ever had
Gladstones looks great on it's website, so when we were in Malibu recently thought we'd try it out. Sincerely wish I hadn't, thinking about it, it was a Friday night and it was empty, a few people scattered about- obviously not a popular place. We started with the chowder and my wife had the crabcakes, neither were very good - the chowder was very thick and lumpy, my wife ate the crabcakes and said they were ok ( the appetizers should of waved a red flag, and not order mains). I ordered the fish and chips and my wife ordered the shrimp tacos. When the food arrived the waiters put the food down and made a swift exit, not asking if we wanted any condiments or anything, didn't come back to ask if everything was ok, only saw them again when I asked for the bill. My fish seriously looked like a battered sausage (3 of them), and tasted awful. My wife's shrimp tacos looked ok but again she didn't like them and pushed her plate away, after a few attempts to eat it. The drinks were ok and there are views (on a positive) and the place itself is looking very run down, the window frame next to us, had a loose pane of glass, the glass had sunk into the lower part of the frame leaving a gap at the top between glass and frame. Could help but notice as I was gazing out to beach/ocean. My advice would be go somewhere else (Dukes is a very good restaurant-only a few miles further up the coastline) and give this place a miss
Cocktails and Ocean Views - is there anything better?
We drove by here on our way to an event and made a note to visit another day and are we glad we did. It was only for cocktails on the deck but it was enjoyable and delicious. We came via Topanga Canyon Road and what an experience that was!! Breathtaking beauty.
Clam Chowder is my favorite.
Rich with cream is my guess. On the beach.

One of the best restaurants in Malibu great service and drinks! Surf and turf a favorite do your self a favor and go to Gladstone's while in Malibu ask for a ocean front table to see the sunset
Gladstone's is more about the location and ambiance for me.
It's a cool, iconic restaurant, with amazing sunset views. It's a fun stop heading back from a day in Malibu. The menu is pretty basic. I had a salad and clams - both good, but.. basic.

Gladstones is still fun, still has an amazing view, and still serves killer clam chowder and fish & chips. But it's not what it used to be decades ago when there were crowds and long waits and you felt like you were at the center of the world. Back then I would have said, order anything and have some peanuts from the front barrel too. Now, it's more like an expensive dowager. Other plates we had were a bit too salty. Don't take any of this to say skip it. It's still a blast and totally worth a trip. But get the clam chowder, and get a window by the ocean and watch the sun go down!
Excellent food, atmosphere, and service! We went for lunch
Excellent food, atmosphere, and service! We went for lunch on a Sunday and ordered cocktails, clam chowder, calamari, Ahi tuna, and lobster mac and cheese. I love clam chowder and I order it at any restaurant that has it, but Gladstones makes it the best! It was rich and very creamy, a lot of flavor! Calamari had a good flavor too, very crunchy. Ahi tuna was cooked to perfection, seared outside and rare inside. The sauce was flavorful, the mashed potato was lightly seasoned to enhance the flavor of tuna. If you haven't tried this location, I would highly recommend it.
A must go- to restaurant!
Outstanding food, great oceanfront setting and excellent service! Our trips to L.A. are never without lunch at Gladstones!

Don't waste your money ($13 for parking) or your money and calories. Our waiter was charming, over-worked and most likely underpaid. The food was terrible at best. The clam chowder had no clams in it, and tasted as though they used an artificial thickener in it. You could stand a fork upright in it. The sourdough bread was ok. I ordered fish and chips for $30 (!!!). The fish was ample but the breading was soggy and fell off the fish. They were greasy beyond belief. The chips were nothing special. Maybe I ordered badly, but I love fish and chips. The decor was stark like an old locker room. The place was 1/3 full at best, dirty, and completely lacking in charm. If it weren't right on the beach it wouldn't have customers at all. The hallway to the restrooms was covered in bits of trash. I can see this being a place for drunk 20 year olds in bikinis and surf gear coming to get something in their stomachs so they don't die from alcohol poisoning and sunburn. The ONLY thing Gladstones has going for it is the real estate. Still, the view isn't worth the terrible food.

Was having a bad day so i took myself and my mother to the beach to clear our heads. after walking back and forth a few times we were tired and hungry. we walk in and we see there were many empty tables so we thought "oh service will be quick" we ordered the clam chowder and the chicken sandwich with fries. me and my mother loved every bite. we definitely will come back for future visits.

Service was nice although felt a little rushed to get order in before kitchen closes! But food was great! Nice chowder to keep you warm! Oysters by the sea with a view can't beat it! Shrimp louie as you can see Jumbo shrimp! Delicious and fresh! And you can't go wrong with Fish & Chips!!

I needed to share with you the amazing experience we had in your restaurant on Friday evening, January 13, 2023.It was my husband's birthday, and we chose Gladstone's in Long Beach to celebrate. My stepmother was here visiting from Pennsylvania. We wanted the crab special. I saw it online. It didn't exist. We were so disappointed. We decided on something else. It wasn't available. We were bummed.Evelyn, our amazing waitress "fixed it". She visited our table with Chef T. They came out to speak to us. Chef T apologized for the shortage of our desired item. They MORE than made up for the unavailable product. It was incredible. We had the most wonderful time.Chef Dani was also in on it.I would like to also laud James Merchant. I believe he is responsible for having and training such an amazing staff. Please pat your staff on the back for us. I've never experienced that kind of marvelous customer service. You staff could do training seminars on great service!Again, please thank them on our behalf. They were super!Warmest regards,Susan Catanio-Agins
Classic Malibu Staple
This restaurant is such an old malibu classic that can't be beat from the service to the wine, it is a must if you're in LA
Just the best sunset in the WORLD
Loved this place and shame to hear that itโs being developed in 2023 so get yourselves there soon, I first visited in 1992 and 30 years later it looked just the same. Friendly staff, well priced and the sunset WOW!
Great views, food & service.
We had a really nice dinner. Enjoyed the scenery. We had great service and the fox was really good. I would recommend sitting outside if the weather is nice well worth it.
Old, tired and rundown. Food was good. View amazing at sunset.
Donโt go to this outdated landmark. I used to love going there. Two times ago I noticed it was going down hill. This last Friday I was convinced. Itโs WAY past itโs prime. Yes, this amazing view restaurant is on the water. So are others. The problem is the place is run down, sparsely attended and is nothing more than a tourist trap. Service was ok. Seating was unfriendly for an empty restaurant. Surprisingly, the food was good. BUT IT IS WAY RUN DOWN. Overpaint on the very old glass panels. Bathroom doors that stick from too much paint. This place needs to go out of business and cone back after a serious overhaul.
