I sadly thought they had closed when I came back
I sadly thought they had closed when I came back post-pandemic in 2022 but am so glad to report that Guan Kee is back! The son might have taken over the cooking but I still appreciate this plate of carrot cake. Not the typical crispy squared cakes I like but even despite the tiny chopped bits, you get great charred crispy flavor and texture that makes this a satisfying plate. Oh and always white version of course. Welcome back! You were missed.

The black carrot cake here has a very good and well balanced flavor. While they don't make their own carrot cake like fu ming does, it taste way better flavor wise. The size of the carrot cake itself is cut too small but I'll overlook that in light of the flavors.

I was told carrot cake is a delicious local dish that I must try in Singapore so I did. A few times in fact. Meh, totally didn't get the hype...until I tried it at this location! I get it now! For the locals, "carrot" seems to refer to radish or daikon and not the orange carrot I would normally think of.This version was super tasty and I did try both the black and white version at this place as well as previously at other locaitons so had good comparison. This one definitely has the perfect ratio of carrot cake, egg and preserved vegetables. No idea what type of seasoning goes into it but the texture was perfect. Love that it's not too broken up so that there's still decent sized chunks of egg to pick at.Black version is a bit sweeter so my personal preference is the slightly more savoury white one. However, every time I've been here the queue is almost 30 minutes so by the time I get to order, I often just get one of each...heck for $2.50, why not?

When folks ask what local food I miss the most, I unequivocally reply, "carrot cake." Even mediocre carrot cake makes me happy especially when it's been a while since I've had it. Thankfully, Guan Kee Fried Carrot Cake is more than mediocre which make me even happier. "Bugis market carrot cake" is how I remember this place and being one of the better spots to eat this local hawker staple. The line can be long but totally worth it. The carrot cake is really fragrant with the sesame oil and fish sauce. For the record, I think carrot cake should be white... and Guan Kee does white well! Generous use off egg and preserved radish and the radish cake is soft and supple. Ok, so they don't make their own radish cake but they're not hiding that fact either. You can see the pre-made radish cake from Bedok out in the open. What makes their carrot cake good is the uncle with his skill and years of experience manning the flames. Guan Kee Fried Carrot Cake is pretty much the only thing I eat at Albert Center Market so if you're there... or in the general Bugis area for that matter.

Thumbs up !Came here for lunch on Thursday (12om) and to my surprise, there wasn't a line. I got myself a plate of white carrot cake ($2). Portion is just right for one person. Like other yelpers have mentioned, there are some crispy bits and I love love love the generous amount of egg.If there is a line, it can be a long wait because the uncle is running a one-man show. The only complaint I have is that he serves the food on a plastic plate with plastic fork. Not very environmentally friendly. I am a happy camper today, yummmmmmm. I would definitely recommend it to YOU!

$2.50 for the most fabulously awesome delicious black carrot cake ever!! SUCH a huge portion, especially for that amount. I told myself I should not finish it. Alas, to no avail. I gobbled down every single last crumb of carrot cake/egg/chai poh there was.I've had lackadaisical ones far too often, so this was heaven on earth. Good sweet soy sauce to carrot cake size ratio, generous amount of egg (sweet egg! Yum!!), nice crisp bits, steaming hot from the wok, chilli, everything was great! There were a few chunks of carrot cake that were a little big, but who's complaining.. Need some bigger pieces to offset the sweetness of the soy sauce, anyhow.I would have this way more often, just that I fear for my health given the great alacrity with which I devoured the entire plate.Go across to Bugis Village to grab $1 fruit juice after!

The thing that impress me a lot in this black version, is the way he does the swaying and mixing of the eggs into the black carrot cake. Which is mixed almost perfectly, the carrot cake had some nice crispy edge to the bite. And you could taste the fried egg and chai po in almost every bite. Which was done in a way that differs from any other stall I have visited. Prices from $2.50.The white version is quite okay if you like it stir fried all together. I prefer the white version which is done crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Price from $2.00. You can really taste the garlic and eggs in every mouth. If you do not mind the fact that their carrot cake is from the factory (and they do not try to hide it too), it would be a good choice to try this stall. This is my current favourite carrot cake stall.
