Guru is a unique downtown dining experience.
I have eaten here multiple times and they always service amazing food and cocktails. My go-to dish is the street food chaat that includes 3 items: golgappe, jackfruit bhel, and samosas. I also love the smokey chipotle paneer tikka. As for cocktails, I would call this a hidden gem. They serve some of the best drinks in the city but I rarely hear them in those conversations. The restaurant itself is modern and spacious. No matter what day of the week I've been here, they always seem to have some kind of private party on the go so it's clearly a great place for groups.
Be the first to ReplyCame here with Tony before the Kiss concert.
Had mango chicken and beef vidaloo with some rice and Naan. All decent, but food lacked a slight bit. Tony said the mango chicken was not very mangoy and beef vindaloo was pretty standard. But really only minor issues. Would have liked to give 4.5 stars but we can't. And it was just a bit off 5 stars. Server was excellent, and I really liked my old fashioned made with their house spicy liquor. Olf fashioned was good enough to get me to want to go back so I may check it out again.

If you like Indian food and are downtown this is a great spot, especially if you're headed out to a game. I've been to the west end location a bunch of times and it's always good, this spot offers up the same level of tasty On game days they have a streamlined menu which has all my favourites at very reasonable prices. This also works well for getting people in and out and on their way to Rogers in a quick manner. One of my favourite things at Guru is their samosas...they are perfect. Crispy on the outside, perfectly savoury and spicy in the middle. The ginger beef seems like an odd addition to the menu but it's was as tasty as ginger beef gets. The GF had the classic butter chicken which was great. Creamy and spicy. I went with beef vindaloo and requested a spice level of 10 outta 10. Let me warn you, the heat these chefs can pack into a dish is no joke. I was in eye watering, nose running, mouth a blaze heaven. The beef was tender and the broth was fantastic!! You obviously get to pick how hot you want it which is a nice touch I think. Beer and wine prices are really fair especially for downtown. Our server was awesome, funny and very prompt with service. My only issue with this place is there is no warm place to sit. As soon as anyone walks in the entire place drops like 15 degrees. For some reason there was a double door exit directly behind our table. I was frozen like 15-20 times during dinner. That aside I love this place, the bar and room are super cool and modern. I'll definitely be back, might have wait till spring time but that's fine Cheers Andy
Be the first to ReplyGuru downtown is a fancier and upscale Indian restaurant.
Food was tasty and full of flavour. It is however on the pricier side. Guru Butter Chicken $21.75- My coworker had this and she liked it. It came with fresh oven baked naan and rice. I tasted a bit of it and I found it on the creamier side. Beef Vindaloo $19.75-This is a spicy but tasty dish. The server gave me a spicy level range from 1 to 10. I choose 6 but I wish I chose 4 instead. It got more spicy the more I ate but still enjoyable! Cauliflower 65 $16.75- This was really yummy! Seasoned well, crispy and tasted like meat! Mango Lassi $5- This was like a yogurty mango drink! Pretty good and the yogurt was strong. My coworker got the strawberry lassi and said that one was too sour. This wouldn't be my go to for Indian food since there are cheaper options out there. A good place to go if you want a fancier experience. Their dinner is more expensive and I heard their cocktails are pretty good.

One of the best meals we have had in very long time! Ambiance was great, staff was fantastic, and the food was amazing. Highly, highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyCame here on Thursday night for their special date night
Came here on Thursday night for their special date night menu. The date night menu is $59 for two people (doesn't include drinks). This price includes two appetizers, 2 mains, saffron rice, naan and dessert. I am a big fan of Indian food and this was a nice to try something a little bit more refined. To start we tried the Cauliflower 65 and Chicken Tikka. For the main, we tried their onion naan, butter chicken and mango chicken. Dessert was a set menu. Overall this was a great value and a nice change from the many Indian restaurants in yeg. My favorite part of the meal was the two appetizers and onion naan! I do wish that the dessert was an Indian dessert (instead of a basic cake). Also if you're coming here, Guru is well known for their cocktails! Worth trying - happy hour is all day on Thursdays.
Be the first to ReplyGreat to have a new location downtown.
Menu is a little different but just as good. Will be back for sure.

Food was excellent - better even than west end location - as was service. Unfortunately, each bill in our group of 6 had a gratuity added - which no one noted until after paying since our server neglected to mention it, and we ended up tipping twice. We decided it was not worth bringing up to our server since she had already left by the time we looked over our bills, and she had done a very good job. However, it's not typical to add a gratuity to a group of 6, and I would suggest ensuring the groups know in the future. It meant we left on a sour note after an otherwise wonderful experience.
Be the first to ReplySo glad this restaurant has opened up downtown.
The west end location was always a favorite. Not only is this location better (for me), but its a beautiful room, with killer(and VERY reasonable) wine list, a really nice bar for single diners or after work cocktails, and is steps to Rogers Place. Also a couple really nice private rooms for families or business functions. I will be using those for sure. Food is excellent, creative and beautiful, just like their west location. Service too, is just like the west location. Friendly, efficient, professional. Gurjeet is such a warm host, thanks for the tour. Just dropped in for lunch at the bar, and had a great experience along with a perfectly spiced Vindaloo with the most addictive naan, paired with a rum and mango cocktail. Perfect. Next time I'm bringing a group so that I can try more than one dish...
Be the first to ReplyWe wandered in for lunch on Saturday in the ICE district.
Located in Edmonton Tower across the street from Rogers Place. It's decorated in a modern Indian style with orange undertones and rich dark wood. We sat at the majestic white and orange marble bar. The wine list is impressive and numerous by the glass options. The chef came out to meet us and we decided to leave the ordering to him. What an experience! The plates are as beautiful as they taste. It's not your typical Indian restaurant. Its a dining experience.
