Loved it! What a great evening.
Yes it is a lot of money, but, as long as that is relative to the quality of food and service then you are very happy to pay, and I was! Valmir and the serving team were all brilliant, attentive, informative and very helpful. The food was delicious, creative and at times surprising (in a good way :) ). Thank you Hakkasan, and thank you Valmir for a great evening.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and atmosphere
Very unique, dark, almost pitch black atmosphere. Several menus of fusion Cantonese, we tried a 3-course for GBP 39, the cheapest option, and were very happy. Especially the crispy duck salad. Good size and impeccable preparation. Staff was perfect.
Be the first to ReplyTasty food, but wat to little, a d too expensive
Good, but little food. We had high expectations, but sadly, this was not met. Three course for 39£ isn't too bad, but the portions were small so we had to buy more food at a convenient store when we left. The place is not very nice. Had to walk really dirty street which look like dumpster, and the entrance look like a cheap nightclub. Inside the decor feels 20 years old, and it's way to dark and uncomfortable chairs. The bathroom is in desperate need of refurbishing. The food tasted good, but was way to little and too simple. So what seems like a good deal on paper was not. I'm from Oslo and in Oslo we have dinner, which is maybe the best Chinese restaurant in Europe. They have a lot of the same concept as Hakkasan, except they have way more modern design, better food, a lot bigger portions, and are cheaper. The staff at Hakkasan should go there to study.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful Crispy Duck Salad
Hakkasan is my go to trendy quick bite but high quality restaurant. I was craving for my favourite Crispy Duck Salad and Spring Onion and Egg fried rice. That’s all I need. Took a friend visiting London and we were in Soho and wanting an Asian food. If you like a chopped birdseye chillies in soy sauce as your condiments for your friend rice, ask for it as mine was delivered promptly upon request. Service was top notch and food was delicious. Thank you.
Be the first to ReplyNope, not great.
Frankly, I was very underwhelmed. The restaurant was beautiful and service attentive. But, restrictive menu. You can only have this and maybe substitute one item. Why couldn’t I just choose four dim sum that I’d like and not be allergic to. My main came so late everyone else had finished eating. It was only salt and pepper squid! And - it was very expensive for what we had. Would I go again? No. Would I recommend it? No, not really.
Be the first to ReplyDeposit not taken off bill!
Yet again, another tale of the restaurant not discounting the £50 deposit per person from the final bill. I queried this and understand the deposit has now been returned, but without neither an apology nor explaination. Future customers beware of this as, based on the restaurant reviews, it appears to happen quite often. If it's standard practice to take a deposit it should also be standard practise to return it!
Be the first to ReplyUsed to be great, but service isn't there anymore and food was very saucey.
I came here years ago and it was fabulous, but now, since they lost their Michelin star, it was quite a different experience. The service was really off for me, some staff were great, some didn't seem too bothered. I liked the wine. But the dishes were drenched in sauce - for example, there was a tofu veg side that was more like a melody of gravy mush. The supreme dim sum was mediocre. I really wanted to love this again like I did when I first went, but I was quite disappointed. This is not the worst Chinese restaurant I've ever been to - I like the atmosphere. But honestly, there are much better offerings in a city like London. I'd maybe come back for a drink in future.
Be the first to ReplyBest Chinese dinner
Last night dinner with mum 90! We were so well taken care of including a surprise birthday dessert. Delicious dinner excellent paired with good wines. We were very happy and it was fun to see the original Hakkasan
Be the first to ReplyAMAZING EXPERIENCE
Food was succulent , the service was great starting from the security to reception and the floor members. It was the first time for my family to try Cantonese cuisine and they absolute love it. We are looking forward to be back.
Be the first to ReplyHighly ambivalent
I don’t know what to think of this place. It’s certainly London cool. Location is a bit out of the way but the restaurant is interesting and has a good vibe. The food….i think you need to know what to order in this place. It was kind of hit or miss with us. Some dishes were very imaginative, like the raman noodle lobster pasta (see photo); that was totally unique, I have never seen something like this before. They pour some soupy liquid over the “animal” (?), and it all melts into a pasta. You can see I was highly impressed! :) The staff were excellent and helpful. One big issue is the noise level, which makes dinner with friends less enjoyable.
Be the first to ReplyAdequate food, terrible restaurant.
Visited last week and had the Taste of Hakkasan menu. The food, when it eventually arrived, was adequate but not memorable. The restaurant itself is awful though - very dark, full of wannabes and poseurs and noisy enough to render normal conversation impossible.
They even had a DJ, although what he was actually supposed to be doing was a mystery as you could hear all evening was a load of computer generated sounds on a ten minute loop.
It's a great place to be if you're a D list celebrity, but that's about it, there are better, more refined places to eat within ten minutes of this restaurant.
Underwhelmed/.Overpriced
I’ve heard great things about this restaurant. Having just visited I have worked out why. Hakasan is a decent restaurant. The food is decent. The service is good. The problem is then? The price. Serving only decent food and charging galactic prices leaves a nasty hole in the wallet. Nothing they do is criminally bad. Nothing they do is galactically good to justify their prices. I really wanted this to be great. We left feeling a bit confused. Worried about what we had spent (£440) and questioning some of our friends who said it was great. Hakasan isn’t bad, but it certainly isn’t great. I think maybe people are embarrassed about what they have spent and the story continues. We weren’t poisoned but we were stung.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed, a poor experience
I expected a lot more for the money went for the Pearl menu.
The service was slow, waiting 40 minutes between courses and the food was good but no where near what you would expect from a 1 star restaurant and presentation was surprisingly sloppy.
The toilets were are mess and far too noisy in the restaurant for my taste, everyone was shouting meaning you have to shout to hear anything people are saying.
I read the review and thought would take the risk, however the majority of the 2 star / 3 star ratings are them are spot.
There’s no way this place can maintain its Mitchelin rating and I would not come here again. Had countless more enjoyable experience in London for half the price.
Over the price.
Still good food and good service but way too overpriced for Londons Competition. Had the Ruby Menu and was just expecting more. There are just so many choices around, that hakkasan doesnt look attractive anymore.
Be the first to ReplyRides on the back of it’s name rather than on real quality
As a real foodie and fan of fine dining, Hakksan has always been on my list of ‘must try’ places. However I was left disappointed and underwhelmed by the whole experience. The service was poor. The staff seemed to have certain tables, probably with instagram influencers or minor celebrities, that they lavished all the attention on and the rest of us mostly got ignored. It took almost 45 mins before anyone even took our drinks order, let alone the food and when we did order food it took well over an hour to arrive. No apologies, no updates and nobody to ask if we wanted anymore drinks whilst we were waiting.
The food was distinctly average. Nothing special at all. The dim sum was nice but the main dishes were mostly tasteless and lukewarm. The best thing about the whole meal was a pak choi veggie dish that my friend ordered which I tried some of.
Given the reputation Hakkasan has, and the cost, which includes a hefty service charge, my experience is that it is not worth the money we paid and I am in no hurry to return.
A disappointing experience
We were gifted a Plum Blossum for 2 experience for Christmas.
The service was good but food was very average. I do wonder how this is worth a Michelin star as I think China Town food is equally as nice probably even better in flavour for a fraction of the price.
The dim sum was average, the black pepper sweet potato dumpling was not nice.
The crispy beef tasted a bit like twiglets. I did not enjoy this at all.
All the food was well cooked but again the flavours disappoint and didn't really remind me of Chinese food. The prawn dish tasted thai and the satay sauce tasted like curry. The asparagus dish was slightly pathetic looking (I could have fried that at home). The fish was okay. Dessert was beautifully presented. Taste - average.
All in all, a disappointing meal for the eye- watering price.
I definitely won't be rushing to go back!
Shadow of its former self
What has happened to this place ?
It’s a stunning venue but the food ??
Stodgy poorly delineated dishes
Eye-wateringly expensive but average wine list
Service is good but I wouldn’t return under any circumstances
How the mighty have fallen
Slowly degrading
Been there last Sunday night after a few years. The food was ok but could have been better. Egg fried rice was utterly tasteless, the beef was tiny as a portion and the rest of the dishes were fine while the prices are sky high. Judging by the extreme thirst experience post dinner, they must be using MSG as an additive. Definitely not the same experience I have had may times before and comes close to China Town servings at a multiple of the price. No wonder it was almost empty. Michellin standard? sadly nope
Be the first to ReplyA heavy heart !
When I visit London I have been going to Hakkasan since it opened in 2001. It was a special place with a unique atmosphere and the best Chinese food in London. I’d say I have eaten there on 50+ occasions and to be honest it was one of the highlights of our trips to London. Unfortunately on my last 3 visits I have noticed a huge difference. Firstly the prices have gone up and the portion sizes have gone down. The quality of the food is not what it used to be . The whole experience from arrival to service is just not what it was and it feels like a place living off its reputation. Even the toilet was badly maintained with no hand towels and the bin over flowing onto the floor. I write this review with a very heavy heart as I genuinely loved Hakkasan over all this time. Sadly it now seems to have run its course and at this rate can’t last !
Be the first to ReplyHuge disappointment
When I booked the lady asked me if it was a special event, I replied “sort of, it’s my 100th Michelin star” she got quite excited and said “ we must make it special for you” it is very rare I revisit a restaurant and frankly I am sad we did.
Whilst the food was ok, nowhere near as good as last time,I had hoped that having the Pearl menu (the best) would give the four of us an exceptional experience.
Throughout the experience seriously long waits before ordering and very staccato service, dishes coming out in a very slap dash manner.
No continuity. The second dish on the menu arrived before the first which was very bizarre. My £9 cocktail was nice but it had ice top to bottom and the drink just filled the gaps so minimal volume.
Zero information about the dessert on the menu so no choices if it’s something we don’t eat.
The food as I say was passable, the service well below what I would have expected on my 100th star! None of the promised special occasion treatment. A massive disappointment overall.
Toilets ok but sineage confusing female walked in whilst I was at the urinal!
Great but dents the wallet
It’s been around 18 years since last at Hakkasan, the decor and vibe is the same and the place was packed out even at 5pm on a Saturday evening! Anyway the food was a very high standard and our server Francesco really looked after me and my 12 y/o son (his first time in a Michelin star restaurant) so was overall we had a great time. The only reason I say 4 star as a review is the price, central London yes but it is all overpriced at Hakkasan
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful Place, awful food!!!
The restaurant is a beautifully designed space creating a wonderful environment with lovely staff which is unfortunately totally ruined by the worst food I have been served in any restaurant from a builders cafe to 6 star Dubai Hotel.
I can only compare the taste and quality of the food served a tesco over done microwave meal. I normally would not complain but when charged £40 odd for a plate of noodles I cannot keep quite...
Maybe an off night..maybe not....
Week-end brunch
3 of us had the weekend brunch at £80 per head. It includes a cocktail and champagne. Nice selection of food. Lovely crispy duck salad, dim sum and a selection of 3 main courses. Really nice for a treat.
Be the first to Replyabsolutely shocking
Visited for a romantic pre valentines dinner.
Service was rushed, chairs and tables were very crammed in and afforded no privacy.
Food was truely disgusting. For starters we ordered crispy chilli beef which was so overdone almost inedible, chilli squid which we sent back twice! (Absolutely rank) and soft shell crab which wasn’t offensive but had no flavour and really needed a sauce to compliment it. The prawn toast was the best thing we had in the whole meal.
I wanted to cancel the mains at this point but my partner wanted to give them a chance to redeem themselves and was looking forward to the mains. Safe to say they were also disappointing.
The wagyu beef was chewy and bland would rate it a 5/10. Times he crab on golden noodles was gross. Crab tasted like it was from a tin. Did not taste fresh. Was extremely bland and flavourless.
The restaurant did take the noodles and squid off the bill as we did not eat them after the initial taste.
I’m not sure how this restaurant has held onto their Michelin star. Save your money and disappointment and go to your local Chinese where you will actually feel full and satisfied after leaving.
Taste of Hakkasan
I have not been to Hakkasan Hanway Place for many years and decided it's time to pay them a visit again.
I ordered the Taste of Hakkasan which included the baked dim sum stater and the merlot beef with jasmine rice and a side of stir fry asparagus.
It also included the hakka cocktail which was refreshing with its lychee taste and thee jivari bomb dessert.
Service was attentive and considerate throughout my meal.
At the end of it, I asked for the bill but it didn't arrive so had to remind the staff again for the bill.
