Stopped by for dinner after a ride down to Laguna for the weekend. I was really disappointed with the customer service here. I was treated poorly and felt extremely unwelcomed. I think this had a lot to do with my appearance. I did enter the restaurant with a helmet on while my bf parked his bike. I just ran in to put our names down and use the restroom while we waited. Upon entering I felt the hostess glaring at me. We were already off to a bad start! I am a young Hispanic woman, I was wearing a hoodie and yes I had a helmet on. But I was upkept and clean, this is the gear I have to wear to ride and once I got inside I planned to get myself together. The hostess explained restrooms were for customers only. He made the assumption I wasn't a customer purely off my appearance. Total disappointment, for a place of this caliber I was bummed they employed simple minded individuals like this. I let the hostess know I was in fact a customer and would like a table. I was seated shortly after and again I went to the hostess and asked where exactly the restroom was. He repeated that restrooms were for customers only. I reminded him once more that I was a customer and had a table. I asked if I had to place an order and pay before I was allowed to use their restrooms. He didn't like that response but I feel it was justified. The snooty attitude was totally unnecessary. I wasn't causing a disturbance, I didn't look like a hot mess and quite honestly he made me feel unwelcome because I wasn't "one of them." After finally being granted access to their miraculous restrooms that they seemed to guard tirelessly--we were finally able to order. We had a chicken pot pie, duck fried rice and mussels. The rice and mussels were phenomenal! Unfortunately, the pot pie was strike 3 for me. It was watery and the chicken seemed like they just shredded a Costco chicken and threw everything together--underwhelmed. Overall, I won't be back! This place single handedly killed my whole Laguna experience. If I could rate it no stars I would, the employees need a longggggg lesson in social skills.

About 2 years ago, I stopped eating at Harley after the owner and staff accused my dog of peeing on their patio, despite none of them being outside to witness it happen. Which it didn't. I wrote a review of the experience and shared some thoughts about the business, at which point, the owner replied, told blatant lies and hurled insults at me. I concluded my reply with the fact that the restaurant would soon be closing anyway because of things of this nature happening. And wouldn't ya know it ... I was spot on ... Congrats on driving that thing into the ground, Greg!

Lovely experience all around! So sorry to hear they're shutting their doors at week's end, but glad we were able to try it, as it's been on my list for a while. Came here for my mom's 76th birthday and sat outside. Everyone from the hostess with the violet burst in her hair, to Aaron, our server, was kind and caring. Every dish we had felt similarly thoughtful and considered: little gem caesar, the octopus app, lamb burgers, and the lamb bolognese pasta, capped off with a chocolate sundae. There's a heartiness and simplicity here that's borne of centering really fresh ingredients and just good clean cooking. Wishing the entire Harley family a strong closing week, and hoping everyone lands on their feet.
Be the first to ReplyI have been here 2x.
First time, it was nice, people were nice, they were a new restaurant. 2nd time was last Saturday with my wife for Father's Day. It is a good thing this restaurant is closing, as the owner/chef (or at least who the staff said was the owner/chef) has no business in the restaurant business, and they fraudulently increased what I was charged (which I am now fighting with my CC to get removed). We ordered nice drinks, 3 apps, wife ordered another drink. She got the halibut, I got a Wagu Steak, medium rare - splurging bc it was first time we had been to a new place in a while. We were served, it looked good, and I took one bite...and it tasted off. This is the type of steak where the chef slices individual slices through the 12 oz steak, so I looked at all the slices to see what's what - and was greeted with what was a brown steak, with a very thin slice of pink in the middle - i.e. not medium rare, more like medium+ to medium well. I ate a few of the carrots waiting for my server - that were good - and thought about whether I should just eat the $60, way over cooked steak. I decided I couldn't pay and then eat something that was so over cooked. I told my server, who took one look at the steak, agreed it was over cooked, and who said she would take it back. She picked up the plate, and then within 3-4 minutes returned...with the same plate, same steak, now over-cooked and likely cold to boot. She informed me that she told the chef - who she said was also the owner - told her that "the steak was medium rare, take it back". Having worked in almost a dozen restaurants in the past I was floored - both because the "chef" doesn't know what medium rare is, and clearly doesn't give a hoot about his patrons. I told her I would not eat it, as it was not what I ordered, and to take it off the bill, after informing her that her chef/owner was nuts (in so many words). My wife finishes in the ensuing 10-15 minute wait for the bill (she later informed me that her halibut was also over cooked but I digress), only to have the aforementioned chef/owner come up and rudely slap a plate with a new steak in front of me. I looked up at him and told him I did not order it and would not eat it. I also pointed out that, unlike steak No. 1 this one was a red center, i.e. actually medium rare (although I never ate it). I did not tell him that the other reason I would not eat it is because who would trust a chef that does something like that not to mess with round 2? The guy had the balls to tell me "you will eat it". Literally. When I said no I won't and no I won't pay for it, he then said, loudly so that other tables could not hear "I don't care if you put it in a to go bag, you will pay for it". I said his last one was medium to medium well and he replied "it was medium rare when I temp'd it while plating it" (I cannot say this was untrue, but the steak was brown so I don't see how it could be). I then told him he would have to call the police, or bring me a check with every single thing we paid for - but not the steak - or we would just leave. He told me again "you will pay", I said no I will not, and then he stalked off. Finally, another person came up with the bill, minus the steak for $149.75. I said thank you, informed him it was good they were closing bc his owner/boss should not be in the business, put a 0 through the tip, and signed for $149.75 - then I called over my server who had done nothing wrong and gave her $50.00 cash, telling her it was not to be given to the owner/chef. Knowing this is a guy that is either a very bad cook who can't tell medium rare from medium well and has very poor manners with patrons who visit, or someone who just lies with impunity, I watched my CC account for when the charge hit, just to confirm that the chef/owner didn't try to increase it. Now, I don't know WHO illegally increased the bill, but low and behold when it cleared it was not for 149.75, it was for 169.75. I get it - 20 bucks - no biggie, but I could not believe that they would do what they did during the dinner, then have the idiotic balls to increase the receipt. My wife is wonderful and says maybe the chef/owner is sad because the place is closing. That may be...but this is a place of fine dining that can't cook a steak, yells at patrons, tell people what they will eat, and then illegally increases the invoice after signature. It is not surprising that the place is closing, and I hope anyone thinking of dining there before they do close will think twice as there are many good restaurants within one block that will treat you to what you ordered, not yell at you, and not report an increase in payment to your CC after you signed. Beware, be wise, and avoid.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing.
Food is overpriced and average. Staff made a lot of mistakes. The owner had a major attitude. Nobody in our party liked this place. We won't be back to this side street restaurant. There are many, far better choices in this area, which is full of great dining establishments.

My wife and I stumbled upon this place on our date night and loved it. The service was superb with our waiter - he knew all the wines like the back of his hand. Ambience was great with the live music. Food was amazing. Literally checks all the boxes: service, food, music, and tasty specialty drinks

Has anyone ever been fired by a server before? Well I can answer that for you now. We had a server who we were joking around with, you know, the way people act when they're out and feeling light. We're Laguna locals and were out with friends and I guess he was totally overwhelmed and stressed out and passed us off to another server who then basically flew by our table as a means of taking care of us throughout the evening's experience. Wouldn't stick around to receive a full request and would run off after a mere moment at our table. They brought the wrong things out to us, made us wait for a long period of time to receive drinks, and were incredibly dismissive and kind of rude to us. Needless to say, we will be bringing our local support elsewhere. Ps the food was salt heavy and absolutely nothing to write home about. Avoid the biscuits- they tasted horrid. We ordered butter to slather the awful in something better and then saw on our bill that we were charged for not one BUT two butters. Â Kinda funny how ridiculous this place is. It was definitely of those nights when you're like- la sirena for tacos would have been pleasant, tasty and commensurately priced for the experience.

Fun place, bathrooms really need some TLC but the restaurant has its charm. The food I had was more of a 3.5 star since the fish was so bland and covered in peas. The sauce was good but only had about a table spoon worth which was a disservice since it was so tasty. I think the corn could have really livened up the dish if it had a nice char on it. The whole peas and corn thing felt like grandmas frozen bagged veggies. I'm sure some other items are better since my spouse had the elk and said it was amazing. I'm looking forward to trying other items and hoping for more seafood options since I don't eat meat. The live music makes it a great environment. They picked a really complimentary duo that gave an enjoyable vibe to the place. Loved the floor to ceiling windows, it was nice to sit looking out and not feel cramped against a wall.Overall I think it's a great spot and the cookies they make are incredible. Like, take a box home with you incredible.
Be the first to ReplyDon't bother to go here.
My friend and I went there and she ordered a hamburger. When she got her bill, they charged 50 cents for lettuce, 50cents for tomato and so forth. What a joke! They use craft ice so when they get an order, the pour is less!
Be the first to ReplyHad dinner with the wife at Harley's last night.
The Elk was delicious, thick cubes of lean meat in a sweet sauce.  The service was great, Maddy was attentive and friendly.  We had cocktails to start - she a Hibiscus Martini, I a variation of a Brooklyn first, then followed up with one (among several) of bartender Greg's original concoctions he calls Xanadu - very light, with a nice lemon finish.  Owner, also named Greg, couldn't have been nicer.  The place looks great.  We ate upstairs where it's a little quieter.  Great meal, great time.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband took me here for my birthday with other friends
My husband took me here for my birthday with other friends on a Friday night the service was horrible the drinks were ridiculously priced we were actually charged for tonic water in a drink, I have never seen that except when I was in Europe! The food was mediocre at best, very little flavor basically bland. And they actually charged us for the" complementary" birthday dessert. I say complementary because every other restaurant you go to if a reservation was made for a birthday dinner a complimentary dessert of some sort is usually brought over, The best part about it is we didn't even order it it just came with a candle in it. I've been to that restaurant a few years ago when is fabulous don't know what happened to it but I will never go back.

.. This restaurant has potential, but it needs a reset. Â They are combining"American Classics with Asian Flavors" and it just kinda messes up everything. Â The surprise mint and trumpet mushrooms that pop up everywhere on dishes throws off flavors and textures. They had wagyu steak at the lowest prices ever that we were very skeptical to order and the waiter could not explain the cuts or quality. Â So we passed on trying...I have been here a few times and everyone recommends the duck appetizer. Â But, its so salty! Â And, hard to eat more then 2 bites. The Chicken Pot Pie is pretty, but the crust is not flaky like you would expect and is filled with mushrooms. It's prettier then it tastes. The highlight was the warm beet salad, that everyone enjoyed!! Â Very Nice!!The gem salad is boring and non memorable.Everyone enjoyed the brussel sprouts... YayThe Upside Down Pineapple Cake needed an Ice Cream or Whip Cream to brighten this dense, heavy and greasy blob.I recommend the management take off the 3% Biden Inflation charge.... and just put prices accordingly to cover costs and create the best experience to match pricing. The service was very sweet and attentive!BUT it a VERY Expensive night... Party of 4 - $460.00 including tip.

I was always a fan but a much bigger one recently. Other places around Laguna should follow suit and mix up the menu with some new dishes along with their classics.

Great restaurant!!! Only the bread sucks! They have a decently sized menu and the food was spectacular (minus the bread that was $10). The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the service was great. Will definitely be coming back!!!

The hostess, waitress, food, service and owner were horrible. Still shocked! I guess they just had a bad night? I've heard other people really like this place but I can never return sadly. I was really looking forward to a comfortable and tasty experience too!
Be the first to ReplyDinner was a few notches below the aforementioned brunch.
The 3% service charge - I would Prefer they build this into the prices rather than add it. The biscuits were the real issue however. Four large biscuits for $10 topped with honey butter. The most bitter biscuits you'll ever bite into. Tasted like baking powder overload. Nothing could save them.  The rest of the food was fine - nothing insanely tasty. Nice service however.

EXTREMELY POORLY RAN!! OWNER AND CHEF IS HORRIBLE, DON'T GO!!!!! As you can see from the other bad reviews here the owner is the chef and he is the most unprofessional business owner I have ever encountered. If there are any problems with the food at all he takes it very personal and argues with the customer about it.I never write bad reviews because I am a business owner myself but the way we were treated was just horrific. We had reservations for dinner, we thought we would try this place because of the biscuits on the menu. I love biscuits. Â THESE WERE THE WORST EVER! They came out hard and not warm with clumps of un-melted butter on them. Â They were just awful so we asked for them to be warmed up in the hopes that would help. Nope, they brought the same HORRIBLE ones back but this time they were even harder. We didn't eat them and gave them back because they were so horrific. When we got our bill they were still on it. I thought it was just an oversight so I told our waiter (who was fabulous) that they needed to be taken off. The owner then comes over and says he isn't comfortable taking them off and we had to pay for them. I explained the problem and he began to argue with me. I finally said, "Sir I am not going to argue with you bring me the bill and I will pay for the $10 horrible hard biscuits but I will never be back." They were bad and we didn't them but he was still charging us. I looked around at the entire restaurant and noticed nobody was eating their biscuits. I can't believe the owner is so clueless that he would rather argue with customers and nickel and dime them instead of taking responsibility and apologizing in the attempts of salvaging the situation. If it were my business I would have profusely apologized because $10 biscuits is not worth your customer being unhappy. THIS OWNER NEEDS TO GO TO BUSINESS SCHOOL 101! I gave the waiter a $40 tip for a $60 bill because the waiter was so embarrassed by the owner's outrageous behavior. It was never about the money ... it was the principle of the matter. Don't serve bad biscuits and then force people to pay for them even if they don't eat them. The owner actually had the nerve to tell me I should pay for the bad biscuits because small businesses were hit hard by Covid. Guess what?? ... ALL service businesses were hit hard including mine however that doesn't give you the right to force crap food on customers. If you keep up with this bad behavior I guarantee you that you will lose your business not from Covid but from your own stupidity!! AVOID THIS PLACE! If anyone wants yummy delicious biscuits then go get them at Gulfstream in Newport they are fantastic there. And to the owner ... I encourage you to try them at Gulfstream too so you know what a good biscuit should actually taste like!

I have to say - the first time we ever dined here we were blown away. Second time, realized it wasn't consistent with the first and after dining there the other night, 6 months later, I'm afraid to say we won't be back. For a $200+ dinner for two people , food quality / taste was unflavorful, we sat at the counter to have a fun dining experience and it almost felt like we were a slight inconvenience. Our server was extremely sweet but didn't know the menu. I give 3 stars bc I want to have hope that Harley's can turn it around and I hope this review provides impetus to do so.
Be the first to ReplyHello Fellow Dinners, My neighbor's acquaintance
Hello Fellow Dinners, My neighbor's acquaintance recommended this place. Â After our dining experience that acquaintance is now banned from making any further recommendations. We decided to have a drink at the bar while waiting for our full party to arrive. Â The staff seemed nice enough, we ordered a couple of tequilas on the rocks, it was a 1 ounce pour. Â Fine with that. Â The rest of our party showed up, wanted to close out our tab at the bar for the two drinks so the bartender would get their gratuity. Â Take a look at our bill. Â If you work hard for your money like I do, you will understand why I am posting my review. Â We were up charged $8 for two blocks of ice in our one ounce pour of tequila..I have never been charged for ice ever in my life, even at more upscale restaurants. This had already set a bad precedent on how this business is run. And the kitchen fee? I am also a server and agree with the kitchen staff being paid equally. Â However, passing that fee off to the customer that only orders drinks and no food is not acceptable. Â We had two tequila shots no food at the bar, so the kitchen fee made no sense to me. Â It was sneaky and I felt robbed. Not cool. Â We stayed and had dinner because we didn't want to make things awkward with the rest of our party. Â The food was mediocre at best. Â Risotto was under cooked and lukewarm. Â This place is very forgettable. Â It's not the mediocre food that's the issue, it's the unknown and unreasonable up charges that leave a bad taste in our mouth. The fact that they up charged for a block of ice in your drink is the reason I will NEVER go back. Â Side note, the bartender put our blocks of ice in our drink glass with her bare hands. Â WOW!Trust these most recent low star reviews, those reviews are accurate. Â There are far better restaurants in Laguna Beach that don't try and nickel and dime you, with way better food.Happy Dining!
Be the first to ReplyThe dinner started well with brussel sprouts and
The dinner started well with brussel sprouts and cauliflower appetizers....both very good. Â My Old Fashioned cocktail was enjoyable. Â My wife's dirty martini came in a doll size glass but with a regular cocktail price plus a secret "gotcha fee" because it wasn't listed on the menu. Â The owner said because the word "martini" is entered into the system an automatic up charge appears on the bill.Things took a turn south with our entrees. Â My chicken pot pie was riddled with thyme stems....felt like chewing on rope. Â My wife's burger (ordered medium-well) was raw...still moving. Â See the picture of her face upon discovering the grotesque bloody mess. Â The owner begrudgingly offered to give her a Caesar salad. The owner is so clueless to customer service while he comped the burger, he actually charged us for the salad. Â Dessert was awful. Â The chocolate chip cookies were okay if you like cold cookies. Â The cobbler had very little crumble, the fruit was half cooked with a strange flavor and room temperature. Â The larger problem, outside of the food, is their customer service. Â You'll get a taste of what I'm talking about when the owner responds to this review. Â The owner, Greg, needs some basic 101 customer service training. Â When we voiced our problems to him, his response was "maybe you should eat at home".
