Delicious shared plates, highly recommended
I loved the shared plates. All very interesting and delicious! The mushrooms and eggplant and miso yakitori are highly recommended, as are the avo tuna toast and salmon poke.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing and disappointing
Food was amazing, from the yakitori to sides to dessert. But the service was slow and server inattentive, kitchen or server disorganized (was given the wrong food), and ambiance was disappointing.
With such good food at these not inexpensive prices ($100+
for two with desserts and 1 karafe of sake), I’d expect a slightly more upscale atmosphere, one that respects and matches the food quality. Instead, we get plastic chairs, paper napkins, a TV (tuned to sports), edgy rap music with swearing, brightly lit space, and staff wearing shirts with the motto “breasts and thighs, all night long” (ha,ha, funny, do you get it?)
If you want great food and don’t care about service and ambiance, give this place a try.
Great yakitori and Asian fusion dishes
I had to find a good yakitori spot in LA and so glad I found Hatch. Fun location especially if they have seasonal decorations. Their happy hour is from 5-7 PM and we had to take advantage of their great menu. We had the Sho nigori sake, fresh oysters, hamachi, miso pork spare ribs, and the black chicken karaage. For the skewers, we ordered the breast & plum, beef tongue, thigh and green onion, eggplant & miso and the mushroom party. The karaage was delicious. Interesting because of the squid ink, but the grilled lime, cool ranch dip and the 2 day brined chicken added some great texture. Definitely worth the hype if you can look past the color. The ribs surprisingly for HH were perfect. Great miso caramel glaze, spice blend and the pork ribs were fall off the bone.
This is a fun happy hour spot with plenty of food and drink options. Vibes were great as you can sit indoors or outdoors to enjoy the views. Our server was perfect and our food came out really quickly. Prices are reasonable considering this is DTLA. My friends and I really enjoyed the wide variety of dishes here. I'll definitely be telling my friends to visit this place when visiting LA.
This a hidden gem in middle
This a hidden gem in middle of downtown, we tried different grilled sticks Chicken wings & Skirt steak wasabi, Unagi and beef tongue, and frim the plates the corn Tempura was great and the Famous Black Chicken Karaage, and bone Marrow, highly recommended
Be the first to ReplyQuick lunch, made an hour detour to try this place... was disappointed :(
Perhaps it was the anticipation, perhaps it was my hopes and dreams of the concept.. but unfortunately after a major detour into the city to try Hatch, I was disappointed.
We ordered 5 total skewers: tuna belly, beef tongue, chicken breast with plum, chicken gizzards, the special: oyster mushroom. The tuna belly was clearly not belly (maybe just tuna); the beef tongue didn't quite taste or have the texture of beef tongue, as it was cut in a cube which seems unlike how usual tongue is prepared; the chicken breast with plum was good, as the plum was strong but didn't over power the chicken; chicken gizzard was good, with that perfect crunch and bouncy texture; and the oyster mushroom special was not cut in a bite size manner (they didn't serve it skewered) making it a mess to eat or share since it was hard to bite through, and also didn't have much flavor.
I noticed the chef cooking had some flare ups, which I believe should not happen as often as they did for yakitori?
The decor is simple but interesting, and the service for us was fine... it was just not worth the price nor our effort for just so-so food.
Great sticks
Came here for a late night dinner after the Dodgers game and enjoyed the experience. Ordered a range of sticks as well as the black fried chicken. Sticks were perfect and executed skillfully, while the fried chicken was unique to say the least. It was good, but the breading was on the drier side.
Kirin was a good clean pour; despite the volume of Japanese whiskys to select from, I found none of them particularly appealing. Prices were on the higher side for yakitori, and coupled with the somewhat absent service I'm holding off on giving Hatch my highest rating.
Still, with a great room, sweet ambiance and good food, I'm likely to find my way back here the next time I am in LA.
Really Poor Service
Tried this place a half dozen times. Food was always good but service was terrible. The last time, a business lunch, it took over 20 minutes for a server to ask to get us drinks. And the time before, they forgot to order our host's menu items. By the time they did, everyone else was finished. I was humiliated for suggesting this place. Can't risk it again.

Great place to stop in for a light bite or a full meal. Everything was delicious from the chicken meatballs to the lamb. Eggplant w miso and the Brussel sprouts. Delish!! Very innovative and great concept. The owner was kind enough to let us try the delicious squid ink fried chicken. OMG. It is like a party in your mouth w the crunchiness and the juicy tenderness of the chicken thighs and the flavor of the dipping sauce was just amazing Great wines sake and beer to pair delicious bites with.
Wish we had one in Fort Lauderdale. Maybe one day?? Please??
Modern Yakitori
This Yakitori (Japanese grilled skewer) Place was just below our Hotel (Sheraton Grand LA), so we decided to go there for dinner.
Don’t expect it to be like the Yakitori restaurants in Japan. The food is more modern but just as delicious.
It was a tad pricey though, it was $90 for 3 of us and we didn’t order that much food and did not have any beverages
